You've asked my opinion on My Sister Rosa once I finish it :) I did really enjoy it - one of the best books I've read this year, thank you so much for recommending it and often giving a talk on this book - somehow it felt right that I picked it up only just now, at that precise time. It's always interesting to read up on our brain. I definitely learned something new from this book. SPOILER ALERT I was baffled by the fact that Che might be having the similar disorder as Rosa has. His brain probably have created new neurons due to his environment - caring about his troubled sister and interacting with the right people like his friends. That's one of the reasons why he's different. He has empathy, it never felt otherwise - emotions and love his heart keenly feels. I don't know how is it being possible to feel emotions if his brain is lacking in something important in its limbic system. I'll read up on it. It's possibly those new connections his brain's neurons has formed that helped him to become what he is... Oh it never crossed my mind that David is the same as his daughter - there were many clues... Oh no, Maya... I loved this little kid, despite such a rare appearance in the book her character was vivid in my head - I wished with all my heart she'd stay alive... Leylani - she's smart, honest and really knows what it means to be a friend. I quite liked her. Sojourne - I did like her before she dumped Che when he acutely needed her support. Yes, I understand - he SHOULD have told her about Rosa. Um... But maybe because his brain developed a bit different some certain emotions and understanding of situations are possibly stay out of his reach... And I know, she was afraid for her future kids inhering these nightmarish genes. But, but... I don't know... Sally - depiction of her character was vague, but at the very end I thought that Che's mum is stronger than Sojourne. And besides David was much, much worse - no matter what, Sally did believe in him. I mean, Che is kind and never a worst type of a person, it's just those stupid genes he's inherited. It's always easy to just go away... I wish Sojourner would given him a chance... their future a chance. I quite liked the open-ending, it gives free space for thoughts on what might happen in their lives further. That moment with the necklace, Maya's necklace made me feel really queasy. Such a coldness from Rosa's part. She freaked me out, such a cold "logic" towards everything. I felt sorry for her. Not being able to feel the beauty of the world, not a glimpse of understanding what love really is. There was never explained what Che's parents have over McBrunights - my only theory was that maybe Gene and David were somewhat alike, they both were hiding something... I'd like the book to be a bit longer or having a sequel, to be honest >_
