Such a great song! Sure wish they’d make this available on Spotify! I remember going to the Live Wire in Calgary and listening to these guys! Probably my favourite “bar band” ever.
At the time this song was written and the video was shot, the band was called "Electric". As they grew in popularity, there was a dispute over the name with another band in Eastern Canada also called "Electric", so Todd, Ryan, John and Kurt changed the name to "The Age of Electric".
@@MrJett1971 Where did you hear they were a Cult cover band? They played covers in bars while building their original music. Those bar gigs were 3 45 min sets 6 nights a week. They really didn't just play the Cult. Hell, they even did Duran Duran.
They use to play a club I worked at in New Westminster called California Dreaming or CD’s for short. They played a whole mix of cover tunes and I’m pretty sure they weren’t a Cult cover band. Most bar bands played at least on Cult song back in the mid to late 89’s. Sea Shell Sanctuary was a popular one back then. When AOE played there original songs during one there sets you just new then that they would go on to better things. Aphrodisiac Smile was one of my favourites.
Just my opinion. One of the coolest Canadian rock songs out there. Just close the door on your car, truck, horse and buggy or combine and crank it !!!!! Tell me if your foot doesn't hit the floor. Giver some gas and drive!!! Love it!!
By the time this video came out the band was called Age of Electric. I met them in 90 or 91 when they were called Electric. I used to produce a TV special in Saskatoon with indy bands playing live at Riley's Bar. When I first saw them and agreed to put them on our show they were called Electric, but the night of the taping Todd told me they were changing their name to Age of Electric because of too much confusion with The Cult. It was after my show that they shot this video in Victoria.
@empeyg they are from Saskatchewan. Dahle brothers from Regina I believe and they went on to form the band Limblifter and the one brother went on to the New Pornographers. The Kerns brothers are from Lanigan and went on to form Static In Stereo with their other brother, Todd Kerns (the lead singer) had a solo career and is lead singer of the Sin City Sinners and is currently touring with Slash as his bassist
Awesome Choice! It's really nice to know that I was not the only one in the world who ever noticed this tune. Love it forever! Thanks for keeping it alive! :)
Wow!! 15 years of waiting ..to see this mega cool band and this super glam-rock video once again..!! thank you for posting this great band...the style of those boys were imitated by "heroes del silencio" from Spain, one of the biggest Spanish Rock bands of all times...
now that I think about it, I first saw Electric when they were working their way to the coast. This is probably when they shot the video. When they returned to Saskatoon about a month later to tape the TV show they were AOE. I remember this because I had shot all my show openings in advance and I had to redo their because of the name change. I'm pretty sure the video was released after the TV show (which was called "Sounds Unlimited").
Had just moved to Regina(Fall'89) for music school and went to Shooters with a buddy to see if there was a band called Electric. Saw them a couple times before they headed to Vancouver. Great band!!
They were regulars at a club I worked at in New Westminster in the late 80’s called California Dreaming. I remember when I first heard this song Todd tells the audience there going to play an original song. Now a lot of bar bands use to like to through in an original in to there set. Some of them were ok some were not good. But when AOE played this original song I was like that is fucking excellent. And every time they played the club I always looked forward to when they played this song. It was killer.
Got to see this video as a kid before it was released publicly; the parents had a couple boys in the band and brought it over to show it off. I didn't know what to say. I was thrilled!
And he's a better front man and singer than Myles Kennedy. Slash needs to put Todd in the lead singer slot in Velvet Revolver where he should have been in the first place!
@itsmebaby79 this was off their first EP.......it was at the tale end of the 80's Hair era......and by far the best thing they did....which is why The Creep (the Bass Player) went on to play with Robin Black and Todd is now fronting Sin City Sinners which also has a former Member of Faster Pussycat in it
This is one of a very few songs that I fell in love with the first time I heard it, the only thing is that the hot witch in the video doesn't smile. Ha ha.
Well, the little " Electric" band title that flys in at beginning of vid is original and not added by myself. This is a promo vhs source as received at The Skyroom in Calgary. so...at time of release of the promo copy..the name must have been in play.
Sorry man, but the were Electric and then changed their name to Age of Electric. They didn't want to be thought of as a Cult cover band. Would love to see a video of the Motorhead cover they did. They nailed it! Remember seeing them all the time at the Zoo in Winnipeg. This is when bands were bands and the music was great.
Hmm i typed a big reply to @spicrock but it didnt post (stupid phone). The album was called "The Latest Plague" and was released only on cassette on the band's own "Gods Teeth Ethel" label. It is long out of print and not available commercially anywhere. According to Todd on his website, there are currently no plans to re-release it in the foreseeable future. Your best bet is likely to check out the different Todd Kerns fan pages on facebook and see if any members can hook you up with a copy
Whoa, I'm sure I saw this on the power hour back in the day, I had no idea these guys became AOE! how ironic that his hair did go out of style soon after this video was filmed...
Agreed, the thing I don't get is I tried to find this Album back when it aired on Muchmusic the very first and only time I saw it and could not find an Album, obviously they were Independant back then so was wondering if anyone knows the name of this Album? Love the sound of this...not so much the latter projects
+candyflesh Sad you thought so... they tanked when they did. I know Todd - he regretted having the band go down that route. As Electric... they kicked ass, and Todd would tell you that.
Such a great song! Sure wish they’d make this available on Spotify!

They were also a Cult cover band, and wanted to distance themselves from The Cult's album CALLED Electric.
Ryan and Kurt are my great Cousins , nice to read such Storys about Them , thx Guys :)
@@MrJett1971 Where did you hear they were a Cult cover band? They played covers in bars while building their original music. Those bar gigs were 3 45 min sets 6 nights a week. They really didn't just play the Cult. Hell, they even did Duran Duran.
I saw them in a bar called the Metro in Winnipeg back in 1988. They were playing covers, were really good, and definitely weren't a Cult tribute band
They use to play a club I worked at in New Westminster called California Dreaming or CD’s for short. They played a whole mix of cover tunes and I’m pretty sure they weren’t a Cult cover band. Best song they ever did. used to get the boys pumped!!! wish i could get a copy on itunes
I love when Toque dusts this off and Todd performs for longtime fans.
Age of Electric rocked, still love this song!!!
Just my opinion.
One of the coolest Canadian rock songs out there. Just close the door on your car, truck, horse and buggy or combine and crank it !!!!! Tell me if your foot doesn't hit the floor. Giver some gas and drive!!! Love it!!
Damn right! Grab a shit load of throttle in second gear and scream!!!!!
Awesome..seen Todd and boys in calgary..so cool

Sweeet! Awesome to know I was not the only one in the world who noticed this song! It means alot...thanks for keeping it alive! Love it forever! :)
Used to have so much partying with these guys when me and my girlfriends were 15 and 16...had a blast!!

Favorite song still.
Nice! Miss you guys! My fav road buddies!!
We used to watch them play all over Alberta. Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer all the way to Vancouver. Awesome times
They were regulars at a club I worked at in New Westminster in the late 80’s called California Dreaming. Fuckin love this song
Got to see this video as a kid before it was released publicly; the parents had a couple boys in the band and brought it over to show it off. I didn't know what to say. I was thrilled!

When you still know all the words...
@itsmebaby79 this was off their first EP.......it was at the tale end of the 80's Hair era......and by far the best thing they did....which is why The Creep (the Bass Player) went on to play with Robin Black and Todd is now fronting Sin City Sinners which also has a former Member of Faster Pussycat in it
Now this kicks some SERIOUS ASS!!
I really wish todd would play harmonica again... he was great
L.A. strip meets small town Saskatchewan! Love this song!
This is one of a very few songs that I fell in love with the first time I heard it, the only thing is that the hot witch in the video doesn't smile. Ha ha.
Thanks for sharing this gem ❤
I wish they would have come out with a video for their "Apology Song". Another great one!!
The bass player from Uzi Suzi's name was Skully, he was just a friend of electric.
Singer is coming to town as Slash's bassist/backup singer
Thanks been searching since 91 lol
1991, I'm sure you rem the good ol days
Saw the video on Much music, had to see the band, saw them at Rock N' Roll Heaven.
Well, the little " Electric" band title that flys in at beginning of vid is original and not added by myself.
This is a promo vhs source as received at The Skyroom in Calgary.
so...at time of release of the promo copy..the name must have been in play.
oh I miss these days... and Todd's polka dots and hair. ;)
bout time this got posted, love it
aaahahahaha thats so awesome! Dig the hair haha
I remember that back in the day this video was so elusive - legendary amongst the AOE message boards/fan pages (Geocities anyone?? LOL)
Sure, this rocks hard!
Hmm i typed a big reply to @spicrock but it didnt post (stupid phone). The album was called "The Latest Plague" and was released only on cassette on the band's own "Gods Teeth Ethel" label. Found an old cassette with this song...Didn't have the artist name. Catchy little tune. Where are they from...whatever happended to them?
This song won em a contest
Gotta love the polka dot shirt Todds wearing hey?
I remember them as Age of Electric.
likewise when they played at the diamond club in winnipeg in 91..
the name was electric at time of rls, later it changed to age of electric
@onebyside Prime Mover was done by Zodiac Mindwarp.
Whoa, I'm sure I saw this on the power hour back in the day, I had no idea these guys became AOE!
how ironic that his hair did go out of style soon after this video was filmed...
@VinceM1000
Hi
Did they START as a Cult cover band, or just regular covers.? I've wondered this for years. Thanks.
Agreed, the thing I don't get is I tried to find this Album back when it aired on Muchmusic the very first and only time I saw it and could not find an Album, obviously they were Independant back then so was wondering if anyone knows the name of this Album? The band is called Age Of Electric, not Electric. And FYI that's Todd Kerns, who currently plays bass for Slash.
Good song, this band is like a tame version of the Cult.
*Age of Electric ;)
I think the bass player was in uzi suzi...saw them many yrs ago in a bar in Thunder Bay..."Sleazy G"
found a date on the vhs label I hadn't noticed
12-12-91
dec 12 1991
Actually they started out as just Electric, then became Age of Electric later
Who else is watching this in 1882?
oh my lord, AOE, i had no idea
so, wasnt their first released material called "electric"? and are more songs from the latest plague on youtube?
love to see a vid of Uzi Suzi doing Prime Mover
Doing a lil Axl Rose impresso with the high/low voices.
Where can I find the lyrics for this song,,,,man I've been searchin since..my personal favourite part starts 3:55
awesome video haven't seen it in forever glad to see it but the bands name is age of electric not electric. but cool video
I remember that these guys just had the groupies hanging off them back in there club days.
What CD is this on and where can I get it?

They are "Age Of Electric" not Electric
oki
When this song was first released they were just called “Electric”.
Sounds like Sammy Hagar.
I'm so glad they went "alternative" lol
+candyflesh Sad you thought so... they tanked when they did. I know Todd - he regretted having the band go down that route. As Electric... they kicked ass, and Todd would tell you that.
"Alternative/grunge" effectively killed off hair metal. Did they really have a choice?
their worst song by far...
