Thanks for all the comments haven't had a look for a while. Most of our Whanau were born in Hastings but our Parents on both sides are Ngati Porou and we proud of it. We learned Ngati Porou style as the earlier comment said. The Kaea my brother was raised up the East Coast by our Grandparents. They lived in Tiki Tiki. Our family name is Ferris.

Hi Mr Ferris, I want to perform this individually at my Grandfather funeral, he's been told he has cancer. He's an Irishman, but always loved the Maori culture and he wished for me to do a haka one day. So, I'd like to learn my tribes (Ngati Porou) haka. I'd just like to know what is the translation in Maori and English to what you said at the beginning and end?

I cringe every time a video of our beloved haka which we hold sacred thru the use of it for our tupuna of the 28th whom paid "the price of (our) citizenship.
But to hear that distinct sound of our haka taparahi thru one of our kaumatua, your tuakana, is a prime example of how often practice Ruaumoko thru school years and in our marae atea with our tuakana teina, at the feet of our maunga tupuna ko Hikurangi. Just tweaking our own personal style whilst announciating in controlled unison like your tuakana. After a few, if not several hundred times, we still fine tune our taparahi. And although I've long moved to the city life, I weekly refer back to the words and actions, yet I've only performed it once for a brothers farewell over a decade ago.
You were taught and lead in a very unique style in comparison to the pretty bravado we see now. So I challenge you to do it justice and pass it on thru your whanau using your tuakana as the reference point, and your younger gen will be well prepped for those special occasions to call on the baddest haka anyone could have tucked away in their top pocket.
And if anyone's scrolling around to try and even learn it properly from home vids, this koroaua is your best lesson, as opposed to the other examples that liken to a flock of seagulls around fish n chips lol.
Kia kaha rawa atu. Kia whai whaka aro i te ruu o te pootiki a Rangi a Papa
      🖕🏽♥️💛💚👆🏽
