Something similar happened to me as well. I was a muslim all my life but I didn't pray. One day I was in my room relaxing and suddenly I think to myself "what if I die now? What will I say when I get asked about prayers? That I was lazy?"
I immediately got up, cleaned myself and started praying. It was a sign from Allah telling me to correct myself. Been praying ever since Alhamdulillah.

May Allah bless Sheikh Dr. Bilal Philips (Abu Amina) for his efforts towards dawah. I met him in 1998 in Kenya, and his lecture on the different types of Qadar has left a lasting impression on me.
I highly recommend his dawah books and, of course, his online International University to new Muslims and English-speaking Muslims. Although I have known him all these years, this is the first time I have fully heard about his journey to Islam. May Allah reward you for inviting him.

Subhanallah, I loved and identified with this Sheiks story! I was raised a Catholic but couldn't find the logic in it and stopped going to church while in high-school. I got supper into communism and socialism (I'm a registered socialist still) I loved Malcolm Xs biography so much as an 18 year old but didn’t explore Islam until many years later. In my 20s, i explored Buddhism, Hinduism and traditional pagan religions... Alhamdulillah Islam found me though when I gave up looking!

Abu Umaamah Al-Baheli رضي الله عنه says that the Messenger ﷺ passed by him while he was moving his lips, so he asked: “What are you saying O Abu Umaamah?” He replied: “I am remembering my Lord.”
He ﷺ said: “Shall I not inform you of the most virtuous dhikr for the night and day? It is that you say:
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ
al-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā khalaq,
All praise is for Allah as much as what He has created.
وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ
wal-ḥamdu lillāhi mil’a mā khalaq,
All praise is for Allah as much as what can fill His creation.
وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ عَدَدَ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاءِ
wal-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā fil-arḍi wa-s-samā’,
All praise is for Allah as much as what is in the earth and the sky.

When he said his non Muslim mother treated her adopted Muslim son, and even prepare suhur and futoor for fasting, and halal food with them, I swear I said "God in sha Allah will guide her for sure" : ) and it Yes He did it. Alhamdulilah. So happy to hear that part, she was sincere defending islam (before being a Muslim) in the world religion class, NOTE NOTE NOTE on the importance of sincerity and kindness (helping her Muslim adopted son). If we are sincere we are promised guidance from Allah.
PS: kind suggestion the best format in "biography" is going chronological always , otherwise the train of thought get lost, and chaotic.. there is something to chronological order that no creativity in the world could match, in movies, in story telling etc..
