P0299 Hilux, Hiace and Prado 1KD Engine Loss Of power. The Turbocharger $4 Fix.

Turbochargers fitted to 1KD engines and installed to Hilux, Hiace and Prado vehicles could potentially lose the 'E' clip which secures a linkage to the turbocharger DC motor and nozzle vanes. If this happens the engine will lose power and a diagnostic code may log causing the engine malfunction light to illuminate.

Hey mate thanks for the video, I’ve got a 2010 that’s severally under powered and has a horrible groan round 1400rpm -1700rpm. Should that linkage move freely when the car is off? Mines stuck in place, cheers

You will not be able to move the linkage manually when it is attached to the DC Motor.
When you turn the ignition ON and OFF you should be able to see the motor operate as per video

Common issue to consider is the MAP sensor filter located on the intake, close to the EGR valve. The filters crack and you will find oil stains in that location if that happens. When the filter cracks you lose boost pressure feedback to the MAP sensor.

2023 Prado uses the 1GD engine. This concern was only present on the 1KD engine.
