- Today I return to the living room. I'm going to work out a maintenance checklist while I tear down this tower.
FYI, I am still working on the scrapbooking mystery boxes.

That white mystery item (while folding laundry) looks like a liner that would go in a basket then you tie the ties around the handles to keep it in place
I know that we are total strangers but I am so proud of you and your progress! You have come such a long way and made such big changes even with the hardships that you have been suffering. All the best to you Mira. You deserve it ❤
Exactly how I feel❤
Us too, well said! As we all walk through our journey's together, going through our ups and downs. A wonderful supportive channel! ty Mira!
Thank you! I appreciate this so much!
Peeling Away the Clutter - awkward mopping a specialty.😁 Nice work maintaining the living room!
@@PeelingAwaytheClutter I am with You from the beginning and I look up to You. You should be proud of You. You have a "new house". Now You can do something for Yourself - new hair f.e.
I can only speak for myself and the issues I used to have keeping up with the house. When I finally decided I had to do something I discovered that a big part of the issue was my physical condition. I could only stand up and keep cleaning for five or ten minutes without having to sit down and rest. At that point I was pretty much done for the day. So I began to change that with. timer set for twenty minutes once a week with the goal of being on my feet and cleaning or picking up for that whole time. At first I was just exhausted but over weeks I added time and felt less tired. It eventually evolved to two hours a week devoted to keeping the house clean and much better physical condition for me.
Okay, here’s a goal you can set that will address two items on your maintenance list…create a water bottle hoop with a shallow box or basket underneath. Each time you empty a water bottle, throw it in the hoop. If it lands in the basket, yay! If it misses, you have to take one item in your relocate pile and put it where it belongs. If you keep the water bottle box shallow, bottles will fall out (and you will have to relocate one thing for each bottle), so you will need to take those bottles to the recycle bin occasionally.
That’s cute and fun. 😅
Here's another idea..get a thermos .. the water bottles are lined with stainless steel..it won't poison you like the water bottles do with all kinds of chemicals and take B6 for depression..it helped me so much.
I love this! Gameifying things is awesome for those of us with ADHD.
Yes plastic bottles to me, taste plastic. Roping in a permanent system may up the water game.
What a fun idea!
Nice work Mira! Sometimes when I don’t want to clean up, I tell myself, “Honey, Let me do this one thing for you” and oddly enough, it helps. Sort of like a gift for future me 😁
Aw, I love that!
Now I will tell you why the water bottle strategy might work. I used to be addicted to watching QVC, and if you have ever watched a shopping channel, you will know that if you watch, you are going to buy! However, I was good at strictly following any goals I set for myself (and I think you are that way too), so I set a simple goal…I would only watch QVC while on the exercise bike. Great way to balance a bad habit with a good habit, right? Very reasonable. I watched QVC exactly ONCE more after that, deciding I could balance the two habits by doing neither. LOL. Worked great, and I haven’t watched QVC since.
😂 This is so relatable!
I love to bake (in fact, I have a cake cooling as I type). The problem with that is that I also have a sweet tooth the size of Texas, so whatever I bake gets in my mouth. 😅 Years ago, I made a pact with myself that I could bake to my heart's content, but I had to do an hour on the treadmill every time I indulged in a sweet treat. It worked great! I spent at least an hour a day on that thing, and it kept me from snacking late at night.
In 2018 I suffered a back injury that left me disabled and, although I don't really use the treadmill anymore (mostly because it's in the basement and I'm not so good on stairs), but I can't bake as much as I used to, so it still balances out in the end. 🙃
😂😂😂😂
Yay for maintenance! I just finished recording the portion of my voice over about you putting together a maintenance schedule. You go girl! Are you sure you don't want to change the name of your channel to "Destroying the Clutter in 10 minutes or less?" Maybe you can work up to that...😄
Ha ha. Maybe I will. 😂
You are not only cleaning but changing your lifestyle. I am so proud of you. I have noticed that you stand longer, struggle less to get around and I think you have even lost some weight! Keep up the good work, it's WORKING😊
It's cluttered again, but most of the items appear to have come from the scrapbook room, no? You are reducing the total amount in your house with each declutter, well done. ❤
Don't feel bad about the maintance. Its totally normal that things get out of order while you are focusing in big household or diy projects. You can see it with alot of youtubers also.
And you are still in a major decluttering phase where it is normal that things shift from room to room until they find their final spot😊
Good job. It’s especially satisfying to see you put the stuff in the dumpster and your car!
Please feel no shame! Feel pride in what you've accomplished, especially considering the losses you've had. I think your progress is admirable.
Before I bring the mail into my house, I’m already presorting. Ads go straight into recycling, and more sensitive info but junk I don’t need/want goes into a designated shred box located in my garage. 90% of the mail never even makes it into my house. This system has really worked well for me
Seeing you sort through the box with dog stuff reminded me of something that happened recently:
Growing up we had cats. The last one died in 2017. I had already moved out by then and my mother kept the equipment you need for such a pet afterwards.
I will get some felines to care for in a bit, so she recently brought me said box. I openend it and I had to toss half of it. There was a lot of expired medicine and food, broken toys and empty packaging inside. When I first saw this, I rolled my eyes a little bit and sighed, but then I thought about how much we both grieved for our cats and that she probably didn't have the strength to go through it all and just packed it away. And how grateful I am that she still had the stuff so I can use it now. So I took an hour and sorted happily, threw everything away that was not usable, cleaned the rest and packed it into a new, much smaller box with a lid, thanked my kitties and my mum silently and moved on.
We don't have to be ashamed for chaos and clutter. The people who matter will understand and give us a helping hand when needed.
Saw a comment somewhere recently that made me stop and think; don't put it down .... put it away. If only I could follow that advice every time 😂😂😂.
But I have been inspired by you to clear out cupboards in my bathroom and kitchen.
You should be proud of your achievements xx
That goes into a wicker basket. Its like a liner to keep small things from falling out the bottom or sides. You are doing great Mira. Every time you throw stuff away or give it away to be donated and don't bring more in, then you are making progress🎉
I made a new rule that one thing brought in means two things have to leave the house. Have a great day and Thanks for helping us all by sharing your journey!
Like Bonnie said in one of her videos, you “could be a poster child for decision fatigue” with all the decisions you had to make in your scrapbook room. That was such a mammoth effort I think it’s just a natural part of the ebb and flow to have less energy for decluttering after putting in all that work there. Slow progress is still progress. Your doing a great job !
Hello! Great job! It is a fabric liner for a basket.
Right
Yep - when I do a big overhaul - declutter - seems I'm not too interested in maintenance. It wears you out making all the decluttering decisions. But when you do get back to it, it's never as bad as the original "dig out". Keep on keeping on Ms. Mira.
PS - Love the climber and the inspector. 🥰
I'm a bit new to your channel, but I love your voiceover. It makes me really happy to hear your joy when the pups come into view! I'm a Gordon shark fan too, I love the dog bed. You're doing such great work!
If you can, use some of those excess bags to donate things and donate the bags along with the clothes. You probably have more than enough!
Excellent idea
We've had a wet and chilly April here in the UK, and it is not overly warm now that May has arrived. I'm planning on tackling the garden which I've neglected so far.
I find maintenance satisfying because it doesnt take anywhere near as long putting everything back in order. I refuse to let things pile up now, and try and put away as I go along.
You have come so far since those early days and you should be proud of yourself, not ashamed!
You are doing great and you’ve come a long way. Remember…Rome wasn’t built in a day! As you declutter maintenance will get easier but I personally have learned that I’d rather spend a minute now putting something away than an hour or more later “decluttering” the same spot yet again.
Excellent job! I think working on the hotspots in the already cleared areas is a great idea. This will keep them from getting as bad and so they will be less overwhelming. Then you’ll end up being less stressed with more energy to tackle those really big jobs when it comes time. You’re doing great-just keep trying these different methods to help you stick with the maintenance and you’ll eventually find a one that works for you. 🤩
Your maintenance muscles are growing - look how short this video is in comparison to how long this room initially took you. And look at how much easier this looks like it was for you. Rome wasn't built in a day, you know. Keep working on it and maintenance will become easier with the passing of more wibbley wobbly timey whimy stuff!
9:01 it’s a basket liner. Somewhere around your house you have a naked basket. 😮
Great job Mira. I love watching and listening to you. You are the only decluttering person I can really relate to. Thanks for the inspiration. Your little dogs are adorable 😍😍
Thank you so much!
Good job, Mira. It is normal when you are used to having clutter around you to create more once you clean it up. You are finding a new normal and changing a habit. It takes time. Maybe try leaving a box, bin, or area that you are allowed to clutter for future you, but once you fill your boundary future, you need to deal with it. As long as you keep trying, you're doing great.
It always feels better when your able to tackle an area. I feel like ways are changing more aware of putting things back in their place quicker then before. I enjoy waking up knowing I have progressed even if there is more work to do. Thanks for sharing your journey with us its motivating.
Mira, I was brought up shamed based! And as the perfect child out of eight! I still deal with it daily!
Thank you for addressing it! And your way of dealing with it! You gave me permission to accept and know I am not I am not alone!
Thank you
None of us are perfect either. We as people need to learn to support and encourage each other. I think we do that here. You can do this Mira !!!
If you don’t know what it is, you don’t need it. It’s coming along nicely
Are you counting things done like bags of garbage, boxes and totes gone through, bags/ boxes of donation, and the like? These types of counts can become amazing.
A shredder is helpful with paper clutter, I love the sound of useless paper being shredded. Also consider using you scrapbook room as a office and hang the whiteboard to post positive affirmations when your stressed. The crate for colt is very much needed, good luck and keep on going.
Awkward angles, water bottles, and Mira laughs. What a great way to end my work week!
I so proud of you for tackling the maintenance ❤
Thank you for filming it when you took the things out to the bins and the car, I always feel so unsatisfied when I don´t get to see that ☺
Bit by bit your house will feel ‘lighter’. It’s a great feeling.
This is the reality people need to see, & how you develop skills to tackle these things. ❤️ Hope you are ok. I’m the one who lost a long time pet & my Mom about the same time frame you did, so your content is smoothing as we both deal with our losses.
Hey Mira! I haven’t commented in a while, but wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the scrapbook room collaboration you did with Bonnie. She’s a real powerhouse and I envy that kind of energy! I always look forward to your videos and I think you are doing amazing work. They are really motivating to watch. Thank you for starting this channel ❤
You are an encouragement to others. Keep up the good work. Progress not Perfection!
You have come so far. Take a moment to be grateful for the burst of energy and enjoy your cleared space! Have a bottle of water to celebrate! 😂😂😂
Your doing a great job Mira, I love your cute puppy colt, adorable, very playful and I could see he's helping you get rid of things, hahahaha. Once you have decluttered you will feel so much better. It's like a cleansing. Just loved the utube on your craft room AMAZING. xxxxx
Glad you’re giving yourself some grace…life doesn’t have to be perfect and SO MUCH time and effort has gone to the craft room so other room maintenances may go to the back burner… always glad to see those pups ❤
An idea for your bags collection,
When you go shopping take a couple of bags you don't want then when another shopper has forgotten their bags you could give them one of your not wanted bag. I hope that makes sense,
This is great for the environment, great for them because they don't have to buy a bag, and brilliant for you as you are decluttering sustainably.
As you are planning your maintenance, you might consider two options - category by category as you were writing down or room by room. There are a few things you might want to do daily and use a habit tracker for such as dishes in the kitchen, collapsing boxes, and picking up trash. If you are doing room by room, you do have the advantage of having a habit of using baskets to transfer things from room so the first thing would be to empty the basket of things from other rooms.
I look forward to your videos! You are a ray of sunshine on gloomy days!
The less you buy and bring into your house the less you have to take care of😊
❤ it may not be a high energy week but you are still making progress, super proud of you. inspiring me to do the same on my low energy week
As Cambria says, Progress over perfection! Good progress today.
Yay! It’s a Mira! Wonder if we could make a game for Colt of taking things to the room where they belong? 🤔
Hello Mira, I think that “bag” thing with strings is some kind of basket insert. I could be wrong but that’s what I’m thinking it is.
yes, it is a liner that ties in the corners of a wicker or wood basket. I came to see if anyone else had commented :)
I helped my friend with her paperwork. She had paperwork all the way back from the early 90's. So, it took me about three or four days to go through everything and make sure I was keeping what was important and shredding by hand all the paperwork that wasn't and then file it all and organize. I wish I lived closer to you. I would be so glad to help you.
You are a star Mira! Sending love to you and your pups.❤❤❤
I’m sending you lots of hugs and prayers Mira. I’m sorry you’re not feeling your best but I want you to know we care about you and wish you well. You are doing such a good job of maintenance of your place. Keep up the good work, you can do this. You’ve come so far.
Hi Mira you should get a water cooler and do away with the bottles would save u money.
Mira, this is fantastic! Maintenance & making a list on your whiteboard are awesome steps! Love it! I love how much amazing progress you’ve made! Celebrate each step along the way! You are amazing!! ❤🎉
You’re pushing shame out of your path. You are handling this challenge with true humility, dignity and strength. I would love to shake your hand, fist bump whatever your comfortable with one day.
Great video! Thank you for sharing your wonderful self and your journey!
Cleaning through paper is not fun. I find burning it very satisfying.....well just once in a while :)))))))). Good Job!
What an amazing change you did in one declutter session ❤❤❤❤
Colt and Clay are so adorable, bouncing in and out of the video ❤❤❤❤❤
Mira! I love your videos. Thanks for including you completing the task. Like taking the trash/recycling out to the curb, loading your car with the goodwill donations, etc… That so helpful! 😊
Colt is too funny 😂 busy little guy
😊 Happy Friday 🇨🇷 Excellent, I was looking forward to seeing more video, you are a great example. I arrange one space at a time, small things, dusting, seeing what is useful, organizing and arranging. Best regards from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
What is your Scrapbook channel? Have you made videos where you show how to make crafts in Scrapbook? I would really love to see. Thank you. Regards from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
I loved the result, it feels satisfying when small areas are cleared, I will continue doing the same.
Mira, you make me happy. I am under the covers wearing a big grin. You are so amazing, and you make me laugh. I love seeing Clay and Colt in the videos. I understand the shame and depression combo.
You have such a great attitude and are moving in the right direction. ❤
Thank you so much!
I think that the fabric thing is for the bottom of a basket
I make lists when I have a lot to do and try to break things down or detail . Crossing things off is very therapeutic for me.😊 I really enjoy your videos and wish I could help you on your journey of peeling away the clutter. Blessings.
You are doing amazing! I like that you are going to turn shame into a new belief helping you with motivation. That is brilliant.
I notice most of my paper is mail junk. I walk through my garage when I pick up mail and put all sale catalog’s, advertisements and donation requests immediately in my recycle bin. The real mail goes to my desk.
God bless you!
You are doing great! I imagine that you need about ten times more effort than mentally and physically healthy people, so there is no reason for shame or guilt. I love your videos and say hallo from Switzerland.
Not the whole room today but someday you will be there and it is a good feeling.
When in doubt , throw it out. A rhyme to live by.
Hello from the heart ❤️ of Illinois USA 🇺🇸 thank you for sharing this long & hard journey Mira!
So I’m in the same position as you I’m decluttering! Oh, the pain of it all. My problem is I’ve got a lot of storage space so I can just shut the door and not even think about it. Well now it’s time for me to Declutter and it’s quite overwhelming. I’m taking a break watching your video to give me some incentive to keep going! And that I’m not alone and trying to get this done❤. In the next year or two I would really like to move into a smaller home and God forbid if I live that long I don’t want my children to have to deal with all this clutter.
I just went through my closet to change up seasonal clothes...which means i try clothes on (do they fit? Will i wear it THIS summer?...no?buh bye!)
I have to go through paperwork as i live in a tiny apt. I use those ink rollers that obliterate print with randomized characters on the ink roller so you can't read the print on paperwork. Then i can just recycle after it's inked..no shredder needed. I have to admit that it is quite satisfying to ink it and boom!...recycle! Ahhhh! It helps me to feel better about myself
I admire you so much! And you are so inspiring! ❤
I had the compulsion to applaud at the end of this video so there's that I guess 🤣 That being said, it's always great to see another Mira video
You did great! Every little bit definitely counts. 💜
We are officially in NYC's season known as 'the Pollening". Thankfully, I am unaffected but my husband isn't lol The week ahead is going to be rainy, which should help and gives me an excuse to sit on the balcony and read.
Colt is an adorable mischief ❤
Clay is such a sweetie ❤
You’re doing a great job! Everything is a process.
Maybe have a small open basket or box next to a small bin in every room that you use water bottles, preferably close to where you tend to sit and drink it so you are making it as easy as possible to use it. Crush the bottle when finished and then put the lid back on so it takes up less room and then chuck it in the basket. The basket being open means you can more easily see when the basket is getting full and needs emptying or get into the habit of emptying it once or twice a week.
Use the night/day before bin day as your time to get any boxes and rubbish lying around out. It’s best to do it as you go along but at least if anything gets left for longer this is a hard cut off date and a nice soft reset.
You are still in the messy middle stage of decluttering but tidying will become easier as the volume goes down. I think it’s important not to bring in more stuff though. Think of it as inventory and once you’ve decluttered down to what you need you just need to maintain that inventory. So something breaks then you can replace it but you want to try and avoid the amount going up unless it has a valid purpose.
As for maintaining FlyLady calls them Hot Spots. These are the areas of the home that are in constant use so we need to get into the habit of resetting them once a day so it doesn’t build up. For me these hot spots are the coffee table, dining table, kitchen counters and my desk and to a lesser extent my dresser. The coffee table I quickly clear in the morning, the counters normally as I go but I try to tidy them up and wipe them down in the evening while cooking dinner. Desk at the end of a project. The dresser I either put things away or take it out of the room with me after getting dressed in the morning. It’s just a quick reset before starting the day. The dining table ends up being a bit of a catch all for stuff that needs to be dealt with so the “trick” there is to actually deal with it. LOL I’m not always so good at that but we’re talking little bits and pieces in the corner. I make sure to keep the majority of the space clear so it can be used for its intended purpose.
Maintenance muscles will get stronger each time - and the piles to heaven mere molehills, because you'll have it easier and easier, slowly smaller piles.
❤Love seeing your progress❤ I didn't know that I could enjoy your videos more, but Watching Colt taking stuff is adorable 😂 We love you guys
I have a bag of bags too (and box of boxes and sentimental bins for clothes, letters, knickknacks)! We have our cycles of life & I have fluctuating capacities, so what matters is revisiting and just doing what we can! Love the shark beds & the fact that you haven't given up and are doing a kick-butt job of trying! I'm stuck in a depression cycle right now too, but love the videos & cheering you on while I get myself out too. :)
Hi Mira, I seldom buy new clothes or craft items. As you buy less, you'll find it easier to declutter. For every one new item, get rid of two or three. Tina, Al's wife
I have also found the trouble with decluttering is it doesn't stay that way.😄. Noone told me it was an ongoing chore.
You're doing great Mira! Going back and clearing the daily buildup in the living room gives future you more incentive to get back into that bedroom and move forward with more de cluttering there. The laundry room's time will come, can't wait
Hi Mira, so happy you wiped that smirk off the face of that Amazon box siiting on the tower of shame. Lol. My bugaboo is paper work too. I'm still working on getting the gravel off my lawn and back in the driveway. Enjoy your Friday. Hugs to you, Colt and Clay.
Great job Mira !!!
Me included we spend so much time organizing and the up keep is hard rule of thumb my friend tells me don't put it down put it away and this truly helps me so much Have a great weekend
Another great video from Mira! I struggle, too, to find energy to both continue decluttering and routine cleaning/maintenance. My current decluttering project is spices. I got a drawer spice organizer that allows 24 spices. I still have nearly 70 even though this is my 2nd decluttering of them. LOL, it’s a job! Colt looks so good and seems so happy as he pokes and prods into everything. Little Clay looks very handsome and relaxed. Maybe he’s given some of his inspector tasks to Colt. Okay, going to tackle those spices again. You’ve inspired me!
Mira, the classic fairytales and fables are not copyrighted. This includes stories not only from Europe, but also from folklore and mythology and even current religions (Hinduism has many beautiful fables and stories that I personally think kids qould love). You can find many different versions of these online, that might be a solution!
I usually do small declutters at a time. That way it’s not so overwhelming. It’s okay to take breaks. You have really made great strides in your home. You can’t lose the battle as long as you don’t give up. Taking breaks is not giving up.
Sometimes setting timers is a good idea as well.
No one is perfect. And if people think they are, perhaps to test that theory they could try walking across the pool without getting wet. And keep in mind, YOU are the only one here that is brave enough to publicly post videos of your spaces. Do what you can do, when you’re up to doing it. I seem to have energy every other day. I have fibromyalgia, so I deal with pain and anxiety and exhaustion a lot. So I’m very proud of myself when I stay consistent with staying productive every other day. On my off days, I lay around a lot. If I feel like attacking a little something, I will do it. Otherwise, I lay or sit around. I did want to tell you I got a new kitten. She’s another tuxedo kitten, but this one has bright gold eyes instead of green. She’s not to replace Noche my heart cat i lost the end of January. But I will admit she’s been a salve to my heart. She’s very cute, very brave, a tiny bit pushy and bossy. She saunters around the house like she owns the place. We get such a kick out of her. We named her Delilah. She loves toys like Noche did, it’s like having a toddler all over again. There’s toys everywhere. My arms look like I got into a fight with a Rose bush. Quite the fashion statement. She doesn’t even really meow yet, just makes the tiny squeak. The kitten energy is A LOT, but we are both enjoying it. And she makes us laugh a lot. You did great working on the maintenance part. Take care!
Well done Mira! Pushing thru when your energy is low takes alot. Clutter seems to have a life of its own, and like Ivy, it wants to take over and choke the life out of everything. I have accumulated alot of similar bags. I recycle/donate clothing as well. I started putting the clothing in those bags and it like getting a double hitter. 🎉❤
The beige thing that you were wondering about, seems to be the lining of a basket
Or a pillow cover that is closed by tying the strings.
You're doing awesome Mira. Rest assured, even those of us that are "clean freaks" end up with houses that look a mess all over again sometimes. Life is always happening. I try to reset at the end of the night but sometimes I'll go a few days. Remember too that this overwhelming "re-mess" will continue to be less and less as you declutter as well because there just won't be so much stuff that seems to end up somewhere! Right now you're still in that 'it gets worse before it gets better' stage since you're still moving so much around. Thanks for giving me motivation to clean up my office. I'm so bad at letting things pile up in here.
I think the white bag with tassels is a lining insert for a basket of some sort xx😂😂
Mira, i feel like we could be best friends!... or twins 😅 everything i say here please know that i am also talking to myself. Yes, shame and depression often go hand in hand and fed off of the other. Please let go of the shame. you are doing wonderful and I'm so proud of your transparency. I, too, have boxes of papers and bags and piles and stacks and drawers and even a cooler! But it's a process and each time we go thru another pile (or even the same pile), we peel off another layer. I love your future self idea! i think future self kicks shame right in the butt! Your fur babies are adorable. I had more to say, but brain fog is setting in. Thank you Mira for sharing your journey.
I am so proud of you, this is a hard thing but you are doing great. For maintenance I have to tell myself ,”Don’t put it down, put it away.” That way I don’t end up with another pile to deal with. I hope that is helpful
It’s a cloth liner for a wicker basket
Well done. ❤
You are such a beautiful and amazing woman. Doing a fantastic job ❤❤😊
