- Kargil's Turning Point: Exactly 10 years ago, the Indian Army began the attempt to reclaim the Tiger Hill from Pakistani intruders. NDTV takes you back to that weekend in July - the victory at Tiger Hill that proved to be a turning point in the Kargil war.

Militarily, it was a brilliant plan by Musharaf. However, he never imagined that India would bring Bofors and IAF on those mountains. This was the first incident in history of using Fighters and heavy artillery at that height. An ace move by India, otherwise this was a lost battle by regular means of attack.

Mountain terrain favours defence.. thus Pakistan caused Indian casualties..
But they were fighting without a cause really.. they were trying to cut off the alpha 1 highway to Siachen thus trying to cut supply for their army to take over.. what they didn't know was that there are other ways too to reach Siachen..
Secondly, Indians suffered initially because we thought it was the Mujahideen that were there but after suffering casualties did we realise that it was the Northern light infantry at the top.. their paramilitary force( which is now regular) and their army regulars were there too.. we initially underestimated them, but when we did get our calculations right, we destroyed them..
Having said that, all credits to the NLI (Northern light infantry) it takes a huge heart to fight an army larger than yours..

The armed Forces should keep such press and media out of such areas. Only the forces combat cameramen should be allowed as they know what to be shown. Some of these media act as live stream for enemies knowingly or otherwise ensuring retaliation by enemies.

Dear Barkha dutt mam we are proud of you being first women reporter to directly cover the war. Indian Army was planning to advance into Siachen glacier from chumik side, cutting Pakistan approach to main glacier. In reaction Pakistan decided to cut their supplies which they did from Kargil and drass. Pakistanis didnt occupied Tiger only but also point 5353 and many other points as well which Indians never knew Pakistanis were sitting.

No air Force came for rescue because Musharraf said these are Mujahedin not Pak Army personnel.
