  • In this video, I will explain how you should go about renting or buying a vehicle (cars, motorbikes, scooters) in the Dominican Republic. Driving rules and regulations, places to shop, do's and don't's of the rental and buying process, and I will give you a few handy contacts. Enjoy!:-)
    Renting a car for exploring all of DR is definitely the way to go, however, it is still a good idea to rent a vehicle even if you just want to explore one region, such as Puerto Plata and surrounding towns, Punta Cana, Samaná, or Barahona, as this way you can explore both coastlines, countryside, and hilly areas...

    One issue I’ve found in renting in DR, they want to know where you are staying. They will come and dent car and charge a fortune, some will want to hold passport. Don’t rent in no name fly by night place. You will get ripped off.

    Ogando Rentals now charge $50/day for small golf cart rental. That's more than other agencies in Sosua rent compact cars for!! In addition you can't get the cart insured so if any thing happens you're buying a golf cart before you leave D.R. Yikes!

      Thanks, good details/ info - yes shop around, ask good questions and see who does the best for you. I find VIP Car rentals and Extreem Car rentals solid - maybe try them - they rent out cars, buggies, ATV's, Motorbikes and scooters.

    If I work remotely from DR for a company that is located in Europe but is not registered in DR. Does the company then have to pay any type of fees. ex: employer tax in DR.

    Do you need a bike license to rent the motorcycles or would a normal driving license do

    • @EducatedTraveler
      @EducatedTraveler  Před 2 lety +1

      no license needed, just make sure you carry a copy of the Matricula (ownership paper) and Insurance + wear a helmet - now you're good to go!
      P.S. Never leave your passport with the rental agency!

      @EducatedTraveler  Před rokem +1

      Hi Stephane, thanks for your comment. Surely, for a short period of time you would be better renting a scooter. About $20-25 a day, depending on how many days the price can get lower. I recommend a "VIP Car rental" in Sosua.

    What do snowbirds do? I can't imagine they buy a car and let it sit while they're back home for half the year, but I feel like it would be pretty expensive to rent a car for 4+ months

    • @EducatedTraveler
      @EducatedTraveler  Před 2 lety +3

      Some put cars in storage, and others have a tarp over it at their property. Yes rentals can become expensive.

    hi good morning . i just purchased a scooter and i need to know how to register it here in santo domingo. i have bought insurance and i have the legal documents from the dealer

    • @EducatedTraveler
      @EducatedTraveler  Před rokem

      Hi Jocelyn!
      If you bought it privately, then bring the purchase agreement + the "Matricula" (ownership paper) and your passport to a lawyer, and get him/her to start the process of transferring to your name. However, when you buy it from a dealer, then usually they should arrange the transfer to your name, so you soon receive the Matricula + Placa (no.plate). I hope that helps! Brgds, Mr.T

      No observing, it's a happening thing! Now the tyrants are letting businesses be open till 11pm (mon-Fri) and 9pm (weekends) - it's all about blackmailing the masses to take the kill jab!!
