I was a student of Bruce Lee in Seattle when I was 14 years old. He taught me for three years in the basement of the Chinese Baptist church in Seattle's Chinatown. The church is still there. I was on his demonstration team that performed with him on local TV stations and conventions that he did to recruit new students. This was during the time he was a university student and was establishing his martial arts school. I also sparred with his wife Linda, who was his girl friend at that time. My father paid him $30 a month to teach me. I would meet with him 3 days a week for 2 hours of training per day. I sparred with him for at least a half hour during each class. While I could dominate the other students in the class, I could never come close to touching Bruce. The rest of the time was spent exercising (hundreds of push ups, leg exercises, knee bends, etc.), practice (doing 100 side kicks, punches, blocks) and then applying them to combat. He took a personal interest in me and I learned about his goals, aspirations and philosophies. I am now 73 years young and still perform the exercises that I learned from Bruce. I credit his training for keeping me agile and strong to this day. He was a great teacher, task master. and mentor to me. All of the admirers on this site are correct to call him the greatest martial artist who ever lived.

And if people compare him with MMA fighters it's unfair because he never had any fight in a circuit that didn't exist at his time.
There are limits for what people can do.
Bruce Lee was martial artist in movies and he created his own style but he isn't the father of martial arts like many people say,it's a fact that martial arts like Kung Fu were invented 1000 or 2000 years ago.
I'm not trying to bash Bruce, the fact is i am a fan of Van Damme and Scott Adkins wich are both superior to Bruce in my opinion and i am not trying to make or believe fake superhuman claims of what they can do.

I adore Bruce, he's one of my all time heroes and I will never not defend him (especially in the current climate of post-Tarentino bullshit). Having said that, I refuse to believe he kicked a 700lbs bag to the ceiling when: 1) There's footage of him kicking what looked like a 150lbs bag and it didn't hit the ceiling. And 2) We know that heavyweights much heavier than Bruce (e.g. Marciano - admittedly a much smaller heavyweight, possibly closer to a cruiserweight - and Tyson) trained with 300lbs bags and, from the footage of them with even 200lbs bags, they're nowhere close to knocking it to the ceiling. Again, I know a punch is weaker than a kick but we're talking a bag that supposedly weighed over 3 times more than the bags we have footage of Tyson hitting. And don't get me wrong, when you see footage of even trained guys like Rogan smashing 150-200lbs bags into walls with one kick, it does make you wonder, especially given Bruce was extremely strong, explosive and quick for his size, a true man of marble. And I love that someone is working to carry on his incredible legacy rather than work to tear it down but I wish people wouldn't perpetuate disillusionment in his capabilities as I feel like it only invites disbelief in the utterly ludicrous things this brilliant man genuinely achieved in the realms of mind, body and spirit.

Fake and gay. Bruce Lee was an actor and had no real recorded fights.
People who say his kicks are too fast to see don't understand the limitations of old filming and how you can change frame rate to make something look much faster/slower. You can't hit faster than you can see, because humans can see roughly 1/220th of a second (according to www.visiondirect.co.uk/blog/how-fast-can-we-see), so the only reason you wouldn't be able to see his hits is if the frame rate was tampered with. To put that in perspective: "That’s 17500 meters every second or 38146 mph! At this point the ball would be moving way, way faster than the speed of sound, and would almost certainly have crumpled up into a little fireball before a goal was even scored." i.e. to be able to strike faster than the human eye can see, his kicks/punches would literally cause sonic booms breaking the sound barrier (not just slightly breaking the sound barrier, or even by a few times like a supersonic jet, at 38146 mph, his strikes would be travelling at Mach 49.5, almost 50x the speed of sound). Please stop being fanboys and do some simple research and think about physics before you make Bruce Lee into some inhuman godlike fighter. Stop watching Dragon Ball Z please.

I just read a great book "Running With the Champ' a 40 year friendship / by Muhammad Ali's best friend, who happens to be a white guy. Ali was a really humble and warm person. George Foreman: "The only one who loves Ali more than George Foreman is God." Bruce and Ali were at heart nice guys, although Lee had a temper, but was cooling down as he matured. But extremely kind to many. Ali made it a point to be nice to everybody outside the ring.
