Love this! 👍👍 As a retired day hiking guide, I agree 100% with your discussion/advice in trying out different shoes & that there is not one clear choice for everyone because all our feet/bodies are different. It IS frustrating that the shoe models-and even socks sometimes-change from year to year, making this an ongoing process! 🙄 I’ve been wearing trail runners/running shoes for hiking/backpacking for decades. Really the only time I wear boots is for using full crampons where you need the stiffer sole. Thank you guys so much for the fantastic content and feedback from your travels! ❤️😎

What do you do when your feet, socks, and shoes get totally soaked from the rain? Keep on walking with wet shoes and socks? Do they dry as you walk? Any blister problems from this?

Thanks, so informative...sock choices in Australia are different (but the same) so I am trialling injinji liners and outers and as midweight stand alone's, also Icebreaker merino and dual layer Silverlight with my Altra Olympus 5's which are showing outsole wear after only 40-50 km. May need to trial some others...will start using a loaded pack on your recommendation to help with shoe/sock combo
appreciate the video and your individual take although you appear uncomfortable to be on camera 😄 hope to be a first time Camino Frances peregrino in April

Hi guys congratulations on yours Camino so far. Im Daniel from Norway, walking my first el camino too even though i have some exp. with other long distance hikes. Juat want to point one thing. Its correct that you should "Test Drive" the shoe youre gonna end up with. Altras need to trancition since all are Zero drop shoe, a person going to that kind of shoe might get injure if they go straight to an altra a shoe size or two bigger coming from regular shoe.
However, Altra and the Zero shoe and Side toe principle is healthier on the longer run. They strenght yoyr ancles, back, and knees if you wear them, or Vivobarefoot, or Xero Shoes all the time. why? Because you will use your feet more, and they will become more adapted to how feet and legs actually naturally where made for.
People with bunions, back pain, knee pain, balance problems mostly wear the wrong shoes for a long time, and where they go barefoot, the body juntions and feet has become to week.
So keep walking with the Altras 👣✌️

I was wondering if you could approach costs of the camino. Please give us some idea of average nightly lodging, hotel vs albuerge. What are you spending daily per meal? Where did you fly in and out of? how did these costs compare for the 2 caminos you have done. Thanks so much. I am 62 and hope to do the camino in a few years when I retire.

This is a great topic! I know Haiku Master has been working on this. Have you watched @chicaandsunsets 2018 Camino Frances videos? Sunsets did a fine job of keeping track of expenses.

Thank you very good information. What do you put on your feet before your socks? Also is 25:49 vitamin E oil fine to put on for the days walk.thankyou
I just started wearing zero drop shoes, Ultra I like them. What's your opinion about those shoes?

Speaking just for Slider and Granger, we do not apply and sort of salve to our feet. I think Haiku Master uses Body Glide products.
Three out of four wear Altra shoes.

Curious how to you use body glide on your feet? Do you put the stuff everywhere like ball of feet, heal AND between your toes?

May I ask, what kind of hiking sandals do you use?

The four of us have four different sandals. Granger wears Crocs Swiftwaters, Honu wears Joybees, Slider wears Chaco Chillos. These are all good for the dodgy shower or around town to let our feet air out.
The REAL work-horse sandals are Haiku Master’s Bedrock Sandals. He actually hiked in them.
