      +goguhu. Learn how to control your bike mate. You use your brakes to adjust your line through the corner. Rear brake to pull it in tighter, front brake to run it out wider.

    • @goguhu
      @goguhu Před 7 lety +2

      To keep it short ... hitting the brakes while in the turn == bad, breaking while entering the turn can be fine if you know what you are doing. I have seen so many new riders crashing in the turn due to breaking, or freezing up causing the bike to not turn, and drive off the road. You don't use the brakes to adjust your line THROUGH the corner ... but into and to the apex, not THROUGH ... that's what the throttle is for. (Granted there's different techniques for off road, dirt, supermoto, road racing, racing, etc.) but for 99.9% of riders on standard bikes hitting brakes IN the corner is bad ...
      "Spencer and Ienatsch agree with the physics of angular acceleration and note that the slower any vehicle is going, the tighter the radius of the corner it can navigate.[4] This is seemingly opposed to Keith Code's writing that, as soon as possible after initiating a turn, the rider should get on the gas smoothly and progressively throughout the turn.[6] Spencer points out that for every radius, motorcycle, and rider combination there is a maximum speed at which the turn can be navigated without exiting the road or suffering a low side crash. Code is saying that as long as this maximum speed is not exceeded, proper throttle control throughout the turn will result in higher corner exit speeds and faster lap times."
      BTW: It's very fun to keep trail-braking into the corners and getting a bit drift on the bike, but it's hard on the tires. If you are into racing I agree with you, but very few of readers will be, and giving them advice to break through the corner is not a good one.

      +goguhu. You've got a lot to learn about motorcycle riding mate. Maybe take a few advanced rider training courses.

    • @goguhu
      @goguhu Před 7 lety +3

      I can actually offer you some classes, feel free to sign up. Not sure if you understood what I was saying ... for the average rider on public roads it's not advisable to have them hit the brakes IN THE TURN, if you really want to understand why there are plenty of physics simulators out there showing why that's a bad idea. This is not the same as trail braking INTO the corner, which is often used to pre-tention the springs, often in combination with slight wheel spin/drift to get an extra push out after the apex, but for the average rider this is not something to try on public roads. Also this typically won't apply to GL1800, but more relevant to sports bikes with properly heated tires. Feel free to read Keith Code's book, it might serve you well. Watch i.f. Rossi on track, how do you think he can accelerate after apex if he was on the rear brakes?

    american/foreign people PLEASE: do realize that in EU (especially in italy..) cutting the roadway is not so dangerous as you thought. first of all you do this after watching if NO ONE COMING from the opposite side (we are not so stupid risking our own life every turn, at least not all of us); the hill/mountain roads are so fucking narrows that it's very common to do not even have the center line to separate the roadways also becuse no one could stay perfectly in it; low traffic will be an other big advantage; people who ride on these roads for decades and is still alive should confirmed i'm right differently as a lot of you thought. this GW is nothing extraordinary on the Alps, i can follow him on my on/off tyres and 38cv '86 honda XL600 (during the downhill). safetly.

    That lines and blind overtaking is way dangerous!
    But in-corner braking - rear as front brake - is not a no go as long as you do it with sense and carfully and maintain turn radius / a proper line.
    In case of ermergency every centimeter counts for decreasing speed.
    Many riders think about a sliding front wheel when engaging the brake in corner.
    But there is a range from non braking till overbraking with sliding wheels.

    About the remarks of this rider's riding style; this way of riding is highly unusual in the USA, however, in Europe you will learn to use the etire road if there's no uncoming traffic.
    You will also learn to look through the corner to see where the road is going and if there is no traffic in the way. Very usefull when riding on paved levee's, of which there are many in the Netherlands.

      And still 100% illegal and stupid if there's a full line between lanes. That line is drawn through for a reason at these places - because you can't really see through the curve there.
      You are allowed to do what you describe only if the line is not drawn through *and* if you have enough line of sight. Ride like that guy and you fail your driver's test. Deservedly, too.

    • @TonVerkleijT3
      @TonVerkleijT3 Před 3 lety

      @@TheFeldhamster It is not illegal to cross the line in Europe. During advanced riding courses you will be learned to use the road completely when you have full sight ahead through the corner, which is a viewing technique you will be taught, to look through the corner.

    • @TheFeldhamster
      @TheFeldhamster Před 3 lety +2

      @@TonVerkleijT3 I AM European. It IS illegal to cross the line when it's drawn through. You are only allowed to cross it in exceptional circumstances, eg if there's an accident that blocks your lane completely.
      And I doubt that any advanced riding instructor teaches to go over the line. Here, advanced riding classes are typically given by the bigger automobile clubs, and they are pretty law abiding, not some racerhead rogues. No ÖAMTC or ADAC instructor will teach you this.
      And the whole look into the curve and use the full lane stuff is on the actual basic training anyway, you don't need to attend an advanced course here for that. Basic courses for getting your license are pretty comprehensive on those things here.
      As soon as you're into the lane of the oncoming traffic (line or not) you would have to drive/ride not only on sight but on half sight. Because that oncoming vehicle is moving as well, so just going on sight as you would in your own lane (where you should be able to expect at most stationary obstacles) is not enough. As soon as you're somewhere where you have to expect oncoming traffic doing the same speed as yourself, you basically need to adjust your speed and slow down so that half the distance you can see is enough for you to brake (the other half is for the oncoming guy). Now, granted, it's easier to swerve on a motorcycle than on a car and if there's 2 motorcycles passing each other they might fit into one lane but it's still stupid to move into the other lane at full speed or even speed up if you can't see far ahead. And if there's a full line, even more so. You can bet money that they drew those lines through in those places because there had been accidents there. They are usually not wasting paint for nothing here.
