      @BollocksUtwat Před 6 lety +58

      There's at the minimum a fairly slight anti republican slant to most sensible people, but college aged comedy writers? Forget about it.

    • @BollocksUtwat
      @BollocksUtwat Před 6 lety +55

      *PS where are these college age writers you are talking about?*
      In the show, and most comedy shows for that matter. If you study the themes and the jokes made throughout the first 8 years there's a lot of progressive satire in there. Comedy writers are typically left leaning. Right wing comedy is not funny because its usually tasteless and mean, just like the right wing.

    • @BollocksUtwat
      @BollocksUtwat Před 6 lety +25

      *I have been watching this show long before you were even born, little boy.*
      Well no you weren't but whatever, the default attempt to turn towards paternalistic condescension shows you have no confidence in your words. They can't stand on their own. You need to assert authority through some other means.
      *I have seen them make fun of both sides of the aisle*
      Just because you're oblivious to the tendency of progressivism to exist in comedy writing doesn't mean its not there. They made fun of a lot of things inherent to the mainstream of American politics but its inerrant they have been more progressive overall because college aged comedy writers come from a generally progressive sphere because that's where the source of a lot of comedy's power is, in challenging the status quo.
      Of course you can also just go watch the National Lampoon documentary and see how many of the people who went on to write for the Simpsons had time in that writing room and also how it influenced many who wrote for the simpsons. Also one more point, making fun of Democrats and Republicans doesn't mean they're not progressive because in the end both sides of the aisle in America are pretty damned conservative overall.
      I mean... did you watch the episode about Unions? That's clearly a leftist episode. There is no equivalent right wing episode in the first 8 years. The writers were progressives, period.

    • @BollocksUtwat
      @BollocksUtwat Před 6 lety +15

      *I assert authority over you because you are a little fool.*
      Right, so you assert paternalistic condescending authority because you cannot in fact assert points of fact alone, you instead must assume an identity and adversarial relationship with the opponent because the truth isn't in facts or observations, its in feelings and modes of dominance. Like a true reactionary.
      *It doesnt matter the political leanings of people who write this show, what matters is what they write.*
      How one conceives of things guides how one writes things, particularly when one is a comedy writer. The show is of course littered with witty social commentary that speaks to a left leaning college mindset, as the writers were. In the early years Lisa frequently speaks in a voice of reason for the progressive commentary, her words not being absurd but in fact actually soberly analytical with the humour being to hear it coming from such a young voice. That it was the female who spoke thus is also a standard college feminist attitude.
      Consider episodes such as Little Lisa Lionheart, a fairly obviously feminist episode that dealt with perceptions of female identity and how this intersects with corporate consumer culture. Then we can think of the obvious and blatantly leftist example of Lisa criticizing the role of the police in society.
      czcams.com/video/0GB1s2aAAhI/video.html
      She calls the police a "protective force that maintains the status quo for the wealthy". That's a damned radical sentiment and to even have it expressed on TV is remarkable.
      *I have watched this show for years and I know what I am talking about here.*
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_in_The_Simpsons
      _"The writers often evince an appreciation for progressive ideals, but the show makes jokes across the political spectrum."_
      That's exactly what I said, that they cut everyone down but the general outlook is progressive.
      _"The show portrays government and large corporations as callous entities that take advantage of the common worker.[3] Thus, the writers often portray authority figures in an unflattering or negative light. In The Simpsons, politicians are corrupt, ministers such as Reverend Lovejoy are indifferent to churchgoers, and the local police force is both incompetent and corrupt."_
      That's a standard post counter culture era outlook, ie. the product of the New Left in America that begin in the 60s, evolved through the anti war movement, was continued into the National Lampoon era, and which lead straight into the Simpsons.
      *They poked fun at Bill Clinton every time his character was on the show.*
      Poking fun at authority is a very leftist attitude since the left is neither content with the Republicans or the Democrats since they're both right leaning parties. In reality progressivism is critical of authority before it aligns itself with any party affiliation, as it has been since the 60s.
      *I am also referring to the classic Simpsons from the 1990s and 2000s here, not the crap from the last several years that you came of age watching.*
      Look you're really making yourself look like an idiot because you assumed I am like... a kid because automatic paternalistic condescension mode, but I already said that's not true. I know this isn't true because I grew up watching the original run, ie. the first 8 seasons, the very first run, not the later stuff. I watched the same show you did. I already told you this but you're on autopilot mode I guess. The show was far more radical then than it has been since then. All of its sophisticated social commentary and political ribbing was done in the original run, not the later crap.
      *You idiots love to suck the fun out of everything but I am not going to allow you to do so here. Now fuck off!*
      Definitely a confused reactionary. Old man yells at cloud indeed.
      *And no I don’t watch the Unions.*
      So you've never watched what is considered one of the most highly rated and all time greatest episodes of the Simpsons? Who the fuck are you then to be lecturing me on the show? Last Exit from Springfield is in every top 10 list ever compiled for the show.

    Of all of the weekly cartoon families, where the parents are main characters, Homer and Marge are probably the best parents. They at least try. Sure, they get pushed to their limits, and Homer enjoys choking Bart, but Bart knows what to expect, but pushes Homer anyway. But at The end of the day, they still have great family values.

    They are many including the Bushes who realize that times have changed and there is nothing they can do to stop it. They can preach, have speeches, write letters, and criticize; but the 90's and American cultural changes were inevitable. I understand George W Bush sentiments and his message; but he needed to realize that although he has the power to influence American culture he cannot change the inevitable.

    she probably never saw the show, besmirched them in print because they wanted some trendy reference and they told her to say this
    then she just told a staffer to write a letter for her, or just told them to resolve it and some one on staff thought of rebuttal letter
    if she wrote the letter, she wouldn't have flinched from seeing them, because she'd know she could probably think of a witty reply to a writer
