- Buakaw Banchamek, also known by his ring name Buakaw Por. Pramuk, stands as a legendary figure in the world of Muay Thai kickboxing. Born Sombat Banchamek on May 8, 1982 in Surin, Thailand, Buakaw embarked on his wrestling journey at the tender age of eight in his hometown. His early years honed his skills, setting the stage for a career marked by notable achievements and unforgettable battles.
At age 15, Buakaw moved to Chachoengsao, where he found his home in the esteemed Por. Pramuk Gym in Bangkok, Thailand. Under the guidance of experienced trainers, he became a force to be reckoned with in the field of Muay Thai. Initially known as Damtamin Kiat-anan, he soon adopted the name Buakaw Por. Pramuk, a nickname that would become synonymous with excellence and tenacity.
Buakaw's crowning moment came in July 2004, when he captured the prestigious K-1 MAX World Championship title, triumphing over formidable opponents such as John Wayne Parr and Masato. His mastery of the art of Muay Thai, combined with unparalleled determination, propelled him to greater glory, securing him the championship again in 2006, a feat unmatched at the time.
Despite facing setbacks, such as his loss to Masato in the quarterfinals of the K-1 World MAX 2007, Buakaw's determination remained unwavering. His journey transcended the confines of the ring, as he ventured into the realm of film, starring in the martial arts film “Yamada: The Samurai of Ayothaya,” showcasing his multifaceted talents to a global audience.
Buakaw's stamina was tested once again in 2012 when he parted ways with his former gym due to unresolved issues. Undeterred, he embarked on a new chapter and established the Banchamek Gymnasium, a testament to his unwavering spirit and commitment to his craft. Buakaw's return to training heralded a resurgence, reaffirming his titan status in the Muay Thai world.
His legacy resonates throughout the history of martial arts, inspiring generations of fighters and enthusiasts alike. Buakaw's name sits among the pantheon of greats, alongside luminaries such as Tony Jaa, Saenchai Sor Kingstar and Samart Payakaroon, leaving an indelible mark on the sport of Muay Thai for eternity. - Sport

It has been proven that much of traditional kung-fu training is outdated or lost in traditions and purely artistic presentations. However, nothing that this supposed kung-fu fighter demonstrated has anything to do with even the most inefficient technique of the Chinese martial art. This is a ridiculous and poorly made attempt to praise Muay Tay, which anyone who trains this martial art should be ashamed of. It amazes me that a Thai person denigrates his own culture so much. Furthermore, Sanda has been updating the Chinese martial art and I am sure that Muay Tay will not have any advantages when facing this modality.

Hi I would like to know if muay thai compared to other contact sports (mma, kickboxing) is somewhat safer for the brain being quite scared by the new CTE data. I am asking this question because I noticed that in Muay thai there is more emphasis on body strikes and fewer head strikes than in other sports and those are delivered by lighter weight fighters.Are these reasons real? And another reason would be that I see many former muay thai fighters reaching their 60's and having a career of over 300 fights and being mentally well. I ask because I have a 7 year old boy who wants a career in contact sports either kickboxing, mma or muay thai.
if it's true muay thai rules than there are elbows and knees, and head kicks which are all gonna do brain damage. where the Muay thai fighters get it right tho is that they are very controlled and playful in sparring where as in boxing or mma guys bash each others brains in sparring. All contact sports are gonna have the risk of CTE tho. also baseline genetics makes you more or less vulnerable to neurodegenerative diseases so that plays a big role.

To be honest , this much is just for a show not a real match and a tel match is not like this and those who knows martial arts knows the guy isn’t a real kungfu exponent . Know which is the real deal and IP man Donnie Yen he truly knows martials in wushu , wingchun and Taewonkdo in 6 Dan but b cos of his old injury he didn’t take part in mma cos he’s a fan in mma and Buakwa even though he’s a K1 , he should present Muay Thai and kickboxing in mma to prove his powers
