Wow. A semi-young Ed Sullivan. The Nicholas Brothers were phenomenons. Fred Astaire was a gentleman and said of these men that they were the most impressive tap dancers he'd seen along with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. RIP Bojangles, Nicholas Bros. and Fred Astaire.

Dynamite! What a “shew!” Great to see Afro Americans dancers getting a break.
The orchestra is really smoking and swinging.
The Nicholas Brothers were total unique athletes and dance magicians.

Those guys, obviously, could dance but also sing & act as everyone could in those days & beyond. Definitely, the golden age of talent...for now. There's talent today but severely lacking as a whole bc what we celebrate as talent now was below average in those days.

Fred Astaire had the good fortune to live at a time when film producers dedicated playwrights, composers (Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George/Ira Gershwin, etc.) to his dancing & singing talents.

The continuos jumping off platforms and landing in a split had to have taken it's toll on their bodies over the years. In the same a boxer is affected by blows to his head over and over, throughout their career.

All live I think? It would be nice if people could just acknowledge the genius of these brothers without bringing up comments on how racialist America was claimed to be at that time. Their talent was unconditionally recognized by all fans of tap dancing of all races and their position as stars was never in dispute.

I wonder if Harold really was only supposed to do two splits or he just wasn't able to get his timing right this performance and played it off very well. At the very least, I think that spin at 2:13 was supposed to end in one.
    Great performance either way.
