    This is the best doorbell camera in its price range. It's really pretty amazing how good it is for the price. I bought 2 of them as soon as they were released to replace my awful Arlo doorbells. They were easy to install and work great with my existing chime (which I installed specifically to work with my Arlos). I really think people are over reacting to the SD card slot placement. I will be very surprised if there is a rash of Wyze doorbell SD card robberies. Also, any doorbell camera can be fairly easily ripped off the house, they are held on by plastic.

    Protect your sd card from casual theft. Use black electric tape to wrap around the camera, covering the card cover, but make sure the speaker at the bottom is not covered.

    • @Tracker5111
      @Tracker5111 Před 6 měsíci

      But that looks ghetto and cheap... how about just add just the right amount of silicone to the cover or a TINY touch of super glue on the SD cover... more descreet and looks tons better. Tape gets loose in high heat and can move, get loose... ick

    Thanks for comments on CZcams, I successfully installed Wyze Video Doorbell V2 and made my original mechanical door bell working.
    Viewers explained the mechanical door bell very clearly. My NuTone mechanical door bell made in 1958 output 20 volt AC to the front door bell button. I directly connect the Wyze Video Doorbell V2 to the two wires of the original button, set up Wyze, and in the Settings, change the Settings > Chime > Doorbell Chime Type to Mechanical. Whenever the Wyze button is pressed, my mechanical door bell rang. Everything else seems to work fine so far.

    Should put the SD card slot on the back of the unit so you have to at least remove it from the wall with a tool before you can get to the card.

    • @randomname9758

      SD card placement is dumb but it's just as easy to rip the entire thing off because it just clips on.
      It's also harder to see the slot when it's mounted on the wedge because it's right against the wall

    • @abc123fhdi
      @abc123fhdi Před 10 měsíci

      they could also have it connect to a home base like with the 1st gen battery cameras and have the SD card there, though having it on the back is better and requiring a tool to remove the doorbell, the base might be an added optional backup.@@randomname9758

      I don’t see why people are so irate about the SD card on the side. If it were on the back someone could just pop the doorbell off the bracket. Hell, they could just pop it off and rip the thing off the wall if they did something they didn’t want you to have footage of. The hope is they don’t know if you don’t have a cloud subscription.

    I like that it can announce that you are being recorded as you approach, this is one feature the Reolink is lacking but can be fixed with a software update (as of now reolink will only sound alarm as you approach which you don't always want, just a voice warning is good enough)

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Před 10 měsíci +3

      You can add your own recording on the Reolink instead of the alarm. The only thing.. it is not AI triggered..it is triggered with all motion.

    • @abc123fhdi
      @abc123fhdi Před 10 měsíci

      I think the recording is only when someone presses the button. It announces on Alexa when someone approaches, I'll have to see if it plays without ringing, but I had some JW come to my door, they rang the bell then it announced I wasn't interested as that was my recording and they left right away.@@LifeHackster

    Very good tutorial! I just installed mine, using this video as a guide. The trickiest part, for me, was the installation to the chime box unit, since my chime box had extra wires. Luckily, I got it to work after switching that black wire around a couple of times.
    I also learned, by accident, that if one of the chime module wires disconnect, the camera will go off-line.
    Due to the location of my doorbell wiring, I also bought a housing unit that: 1) allows this camera to have horizontal angle adjustments. 2) compensate for my vinyl siding ridges. 3) add better protection to the camera from tampering and weather.
    Everything appears to be working great, and I plan on returning my recent Arlo doorbell chime which requires at least a $10/mo subscription to have recordings.
    Thanks for making this vid!

    I owned the wyze doorbell first generation and was happy with it. a little slow on the notification, but the picture quality was very good day or night. so i figured V2 would be even better, right?? very wrong. the picture quality is terrible in comparison to the first generation. i mean, if this was your first ever video doorbell, you would be ok with the quality, but to me, its very subpar compared to v1. not to mention i don't care for the fisheye. secondly, wyze sells a remote doorbell chime to work with the first generation doorbell. you could plug the chime into any outlet in the house and it would act as a second bell to alert you when someone push the button at the door. well, the chime will not work with V2. so all you get is the chime from the device and it's very weak. if you're upstairs, in the basement or out back, you will not hear someone at the door when they push the button. to hear, your other option is using your in-house doorbell in conjunction with the wyze doorbell device. i mean, that's fine an all, but if your inhome doorbell is broken or you don't have one installed, you only have the device to rely on. well, my inhome doorbell had been broken, so i opt to go ahead and fix it... as i knew i wasn't going to be able to hear the chime from the wyze device. that was more money out my pocket. while repairing my inhouse doorbell, i come to find out the 16v/10va doorbell transformer would not work both the wyze device and my inhome doorbell. upon further investigation (on youtube, of course), i come to find out i needed to upgrade my doorbell transformer. anything less than 30va would not power both an inhouse doorbell and the wyze device (or any other video doorbell brand for that matter). so long story short, i was fine with the wyze doorbell version 1. yet, i was no better off when switching to wyze doorbell v2. if i hadn't done all i did to get v2 to work, i would have put the first generation camera back in and sent the v2 device back to wyze. well, that's my story.

      I am running through same problems, did you install the little box that comes with the V2 doorbell? I am using a 20/24 v transformer and it worked for a couple hours and now it’s not working. Should I get a higher voltage one or maybe just install that little box. I don’t have a chime box so I’m running it directly to the transformer.

    Thanks for the review, it seems a necessary add-on to purchase is one of those "anti-theft" enclosures that would help with the easy removal and the very odd choice to put the microSD card on the side. Even on the bottom would have been a better location.

  • @fredf888
    @fredf888 Před 10 měsíci +4

    I installed it and it didn't work with my existing mechanical chime. My transformer is 16V 10VA, which is at the lowest of Wyze's recommended rating. That could be the problem since the transformer also powers a lighted house number 24/7. Wyze's support is hard to contact.
    I highly recommend that you DON'T drill any holes or install the wall plate until everything is confirmed to be working. You can connect the Wyze doorbell just by the 2 house wires - just let it hang. So if you have to return this Wyze doorbell , you don't have to patch any new holes .

    Common sense would say to put the SD card access in the rear. I get Wyze has to balance offerings with price, but between this version of their doorbell and the new V4 camera boasting about 2.5K resolution, yet seem to be a same as the V3 Pro, it seems they may be bordering on a money grab rather than meaningful product improvements.

    Use some very sticky glue that don't dry out to make it hard to pull off the wall... silicone maybe... or something like that where you CAN remove it if you want to.. you just have to overcome the resistance of the glue. sometimes the household hobby glue is good.. it sticks well but is flexible and you can overcome it.

    My guess why the microsd slot is so easily accessible is because it's a common occurrence for them to get corrupted in Wyze products. And you can't format it via the app - you need to retrieve it and format it in a computer.

    I really want to like this doorbell. The mounting system sucks, plain sucks I for the life of me cannot get all four pieces mounted. Not the mention the mounting plate is too small to accommodate the wires coming from the doorbell so I had to use the wedge plate just so the wires fit. Wyze needs to make the door mounting plate taller so there is room for the wires, or add a wedge piece.
    The doorbell chime was a key selling point and well it just doesnt work, I followed the instructions in the app and it just doesnt work, It could be an issue on my end but I just cannot get it to work.
    Update:
    If you are having trouble getting the doorbell chime to work with the controller installed. Try removing the controller and putting it back to its default wiring. And also set the chime in app to "mechanical" . This seemed to work for me, the doorbell will initially chime but then stop and your chime box should work.
    I also removed my comment about the IR, because after another repositioning trying to get the stupid mounts it the IR now just works. so idk
    Mounting system still sucks, doorbell is really easy for someone to steal lol.

    As great of doorbell is was I have returned it and went with the original doorbell which isnt as good BUT is able to use the chime. I do not understand how they came out with this v2 model with the option of using a wireless chime. In my case i wanted a hardwired video doorbell BUT i do not have a mechanical chime so i was hoping this would use the wyze chime which it does not. So lets put this into perspective. The original wyze wired doorbell uses a wireless chime and can NOT be used with an existing mechanical chime. The V2 has all the bells an whistles but they've excluded the wireless chime option and lastly their wireless pro doorbell DOES using a wireless chime. In my option this a horrible idea, how hard would it have been to make the v2 compatible with a wireless chime?

    With Ring increasing their pricing again I don’t find it worthwhile spending £50 a year just for my Pro 2 doorbell.

    What other reliable doorbells are there?

    The ‘Motion Warning’ for ‘You are being recorded’ does not show up on my Wyze app. Is the reason for this is because I need to get Cam +? This feature was advertised & did not say we needed it purchase Cam+ to get this feature. It is very misleading. This was the main reason I purchased this camera & to find out I do not have the setting is very disappointing.

    Looking for a doorbell without a subscription, THIS IS NOT IT! The 5 minutes "cool down" won't notify you of anything, including doorbell presses during that time frame. First off, calling it a "cool down" is ridiculous as there is nothing that actually needs to cool down. In reality, it's a mandatory 5-minute wait time between ANY notification, including motion and doorbell presses. A doorbell camera should, at minimum, always notify you when someone presses the button regardless of whatever paywall restriction the company adds, however it looks like Wyze wants you to miss doorbell presses to convince you to buy their subscription plan. This is a shady practice. Example: car pull up on your driveway, the camera picks up the motion and sends you a notification. The 5 minutes wait time until the next notification begins. During this time, the person gets out of the car, comes to your door, and rings the doorbell. No additional motion notification and no pressed doorbell notification will be sent to your phone because it's during the 5 minute wait time. The person can press the doorbell as many times they want. You won't get any notification whatsoever until the 5-minute wait time is over. This is quite honestly the stupidest thing ever for any camera.

  • @Resist4
    @Resist4 Před 10 měsíci +2

    Yes, the SD slot should have been in the back and it's too easy to remove from the wall, this makes it a pass for me. Not to mention that their AI is terrible because instead of fixing it they keep adding features that cause even more issues. Just another product that Wyze didn't think things through when designing it.
