- Actor Tom Hanks has been named the Harvard class of 2023 commencement speaker, the university announced.
Hanks, 66, will be the principal speaker at Harvard's 372nd Commencement, which will be held in Tercentenary Theater on May 25.

Tom Hanks is not just an actor. He is a multimillionaire and respected human being. Both of which he earned by very hard work, great intelligence, and the ability to bring heart and mind together for forty years including a life long marriage and fathering good children. Every Harvard graduate there wishes they were in Tom Hanks shoes.
Tom Hanks has been married a couple of times. His first son is from his first marriage.
After reading some of the comments farther down, the negative comments against Hanks, I remembered this is a Fox News page, with people determined to attack anyone out of their line of thinking. You should be ashamed of yourselves, because this is a great speech.
I was so lucky to watch him rehearse in his 1st (and only?) sitcom, "Bosom Buddies." A great guy then, a great human being now.

He is speaking about and to all those people who can't bother to register and vote. Those who believe "everyone in politics are corrupt and everyone in the federal government is evil. Those who believe their vote doesn't count. Those who believe one person can't change anything. For our ideal to be realized everyone has the responsibility and right to vote.

Tom Hanks is an amazing human being. The only exception taken in his speech was the part about the "American Way". Did he mean the dumbing down of America, all the unnecessary wars, the corruption, the breakdown of the family unit, etc? Neverthless, I love the guy!

If I were asked to give a speech to a Harvard graduation class, I would find it very intimidating. I would fire up ChatGPT. It's not hard to do. Give it the basic themes and audience to write for, along with what type of vehicle, and you get an amazing result. A few tweaks, and there you go. Did Tom Hanks take this path? Who knows. But, the man can definitely deliver lines.
Did Hanks tell them about his "weed use" when he attended Harvard with Jim "Ignatowski" Caldwell on their episode of Taxi?
