  • The American cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer is located above Omaha beach and commemorates the sacrifice made by American troops during the Normandy landings. It was in this sector of American operations that the number of Allied deaths was the highest. Omaha Beach came to be known as 'Bloody Omaha'.

    I have a relative buried here, so proud of him. He was killed on July 19th, 1944 in the breakout from Normandy. To think that he lies here with almost 10,000 heroes, overlooking some of the most hallowed ground in American military history, leaves me in awe. His name is Louis A. Torzillo.

    Have been to the cemetery many, many times and always leave in tears. Just knowing what occurred on that hallowed ground and gazing on those 9800+ gleaming markers is enough to make the most hardened soul melt. Truly the greatest generation, and I would like to see today's liberal, saggy-pants, gold-toothed, tattooed, drop-out, lazy, immoral, unpatriotic, disrespectful, gangstas step off one of the landing craft while being cut in half by German machine gun fire. How many would have the guts to even enlist to go to the aid of their country when it needs them the most? A sincere thank you to all vets and their families, especially the few remaining ones from WWII. True American heroes, one and all, of which this country could never repay and honor enough...

      It was a different America in the '20s and '30s when these men were born and learned about duty to your country and sacrifice. But, you can't blame some of the young people of today for their lack of mettle. They were never exposed to the same good leadership and discipline in their schools and communities that the WWII veterans were. For that, we are to blame, for enabling weak, corrupt and ignorant people to assume roles of influence on our young people. I hope we can fix that soon. Also, many young Americans today do understand what these D-Day veterans died for and do their best to contribute to the betterment of our society.

    I have seen movies portraying the landing in Normandy. Soldiers unloading and facing direct gun fire. Most of these soldiers were 18 to 25 years old, which is the ages of my grandsons. They were just puppies and did their duty, so brave. There is nothing good about war that is why I don't believe in war. Blessings to these young soldiers families. RIP .

    All these men, American, British, Commonwealth and many others buried here and elsewhere in Europe, died for our freedom and for peace in Europe.
    Definitely the EU did not bring peace, but division, hate, terror, so much it is nearly that far these men died for nothing.
    Honour these graves, never forget it.

    • @EnterGenericUserName884
      @EnterGenericUserName884 Před 3 lety +1

      Maybe you should shut up and think before you type a comment. Mind explaining why the EU brought "hate and terror"? I think that every soldier who died for the Allied Forces would be proud if he saw how prosperous, stable and peaceful Europe has become as a consequence of the Allies defeating the Nazis. You saying that they died in vain is beyond disgraceful and disgusting. These brave soldiers gave their life for a better Europe and a more peaceful World.

      Maybe you should read better?
      The EU is busy declaring that the EU brought peace to Europe.
      If that would be so, obviously, in the parlance of the EU all these men died in vain, they didn't bring peace but the EU did.
      Of course the EU brought no peace but is busy destroying what these poor devil's died for.
      Never forget, I repeat the offer these men gave!
      And please read better.

    • @EnterGenericUserName884
      @EnterGenericUserName884 Před 3 lety +2

      @@hans2406 I understand your general point - according to you, the EU belittles the accomplishments of those soldiers by implying that it's the EU who brought peace, and not the Allied soldiers. But I'm pretty sure that no reasonable EU politician, or any individual in the EU for that matter, would deny that peace in Europe was only made possible by the sacrifices that American, British, French (and also Soviet) forces had to make.
      To sum up - those soldiers laid the foundations on which our peaceful world lies today. The EU built on that. Nobody is saying that peace is only the European Union's merit. But here's the thing: I think the EU has done a good job at preserving peace and prosperity and in no way has it caused "hate and terror".
      So when you're saying that the EU effectively causes "hate, terror and division" and "is busy destroying what the soldiers died for", you are making very bold claims that ought to be justified. Why exactly do you think so? I'm really curious as to why you would say something like that, because I think that the contrary of your statements is true.

      @hans2406 Před 3 lety +1

      @@EnterGenericUserName884
      There are, in the EU corridors, quite a few who make no secret of the idea that is only the EU that brought peace to Europe.
      And prosperity?
      Yes, when it was the EEC, it brought free trade and prosperity.
      Then the Euro came and later the EU, and with it the unbridled enthusiasm for immigration.
      Which is costing the common taxpayer quite a lot of tax.
      Since the Euro real earnings have not risen, the economy seems to prosper, but most certainly the common people don't get any prosperity.
      Of course, the EU isn't about prosperity for the people, but about prosperity for big, internationally operating business.
      The EU doesn't make any secrets about that.
      And then we come to democracy.
      The EU bosses are all unvoted for, have no democratic rules, the Parliament has no real power, and it seems that the only goal of the EU bosses is the demise of democracy and the nation state.
      Surely that is no progress, that is back to feudal.
      What is mostly disturbing for me and many others is the fact that the EU is in fact controlled by France and Germany.
      And that is definitely not a good thing while all the other countries, small and big, have to dance to the tunes of France and Germany.
      You think that the EU brought peace and prosperity.
      Peace was built on the lives and deaths of the soldiers that were fighting for our freedom, the EU brought discontent.
      Prosperity was brought to the big business, the common people have had no progress since the Euro and the EU.

    Michelin, thank you for the video, very, very nice. This is not you, so please understand:
    Disgusting, why they would put 4 women in the memorial who were put there a year later and not at the actual battle. Kind of reminds me of, "Hey I was a relative of a relative who should be in the same place". If these women were so great, they should of been buried at Arlington if you wanted fan fair. again, political correctness.
    The memorial should be for what happened that day or week, AND ACTIVE. Not, I wish I was there.
    Now they started STUPIDNESS. I was in the USN from 77-81, I should also be buried at Normandy. Why? Because, I want to be there.
