- Today we’re exploring an unusual megalithic monument, commonly referred to as Cerrig Y Gof which translates as The Blacksmith's Stone. It has also gone by another name, Cerrig Atgof meaning remembrance stone.
Having driven this road innumerable times, we were genuinely gobsmacked by the scale and magnificence. These five, heavily disturbed cromlechs, are remarkable... despite having had their capstones toppled by Richard Fenton, and other stones removed entirely, there is still a powerful impression of what once was.
Just off the A487, the field in which they sit is not far from Newport Pembrokeshire. In this video we explore the research papers produced by antiquarians and archaeologists over the last 300 years.

Thanks, it's an often overlooked site but definitely worth a visit!
Gof - Blacksmith so the Blacksmiths rock
Thanks for that didn't know it existed now on my visit list
It's definitely worth the visit! Thanks for watching 🙂
@ 11:11 I wonder if the underlying rock was a table. :O) Cool stuff ! :O)
Maybe! Thanks for watching :)
There's no doubt in my mind that it was a longbarrow that has been partially reconstructed (incorrectly). Take a look at a plan of West Kennet longbarrow. Great work Guys - Thank You
We had a similar thought! Thanks for watching 🙂
Well done, nice drone footage. The cup marked stone is interesting, I didn't know it was there, I have visited this site with the 'Network of Leyhunters'. Check out Robin Heath's books on the prehistoric sites sites in Pembrokeshire like Bluestone Magic, Temple in the Hills & Proto Stonehenge in Wales etc... there is a few of his presentations on CZcams, Martin.
Thanks, we've just had a watch of some of his videos. We're actually in the process of making a video covering the Stonehenge/Preseli Bluestone debate. Bit of a controversial topic so trying to cover all sides!
That's great, I am looking forward to it.
