I really love Fink. I'm just curious as to what this particular song might be interpreting. I know it might be different and personal for everyone, but anyone care to give their thoughts?
I think it's about keeping a diary, or something to that effect. If I'm having problems in a relationship, for example, it can be hard to talk to that person about it. particularly if you're an easy-going person who doesn't like to make waves (as I am), it's easier just to agree and end the argument than to keep trying to get your point across. Writing lets me express my thoughts, and is cathartic, even if it doesn't change the situation.

No worries :) Fink's quite the poet, but his meaning can be a little obscure. But then again, that's what we love about him!
My interpretation of it is about two brothers, one was outgoing and lively and the other wasn't, but the lively outgoing brother could see more potential in the quiet brother than in anyone else, and so the song to me is about the quiet brother being asked to write stories of ideas about the world by his outgoing brother
I know it doesn't fit the lyrics exactly, but every time I hear it, I think about what it feels like to fill out divorce papers.
