I think the way some people respond to controversy and the strength of their fanbase is what decides if they fall off. There's nothing wrong with holding people accountable, no one is soft if they don't accept ignorance, but there should be space allowed to let people grow (depending on the situation).

a lot of these situations are artists who have had their fanbases falsely inflated by a label, then when they get into controversy, the label cuts that money off. The worst case I've seen was DaBaby. At the height of his "popularity", he did a show in my hometown at a venue that only holds around 250 people. A lot of artists are completely at the mercy of the label, and way less famous than the marketing makes them seem.
