One of the endless reasons I love BTS is the fact that they take their audience along for the ride. There are countless behind the scenes content, from the filming of their music vids., photo shoots back stage at concerts and events, even down to explaining their music writing process, why they constructed the song the way they did...ect. I could go on and on.
My experience living in the US is that popular musical acts soloists and groups will put out an album, do some promo on tv programs, do a tour, have some music vids. MOSTLY they have their songs played every15 mins on the radio (I won't get into the whole payola thing)..... once that's all done you don't hear to much from them till award season rolls around and they conveniently start raking in all the awards. There are of course, exceptions to this.
It is very refreshing to see artists who have an overwhelming integrity for not only their art and the message it puts out but also for the ARMY that helps support them!
I applaud you for showing interest in your daughters likes and interests, instead of merely writing them off as teeny bopper stuff. You took the time and effort to investigate and understand. If more people took that initiative I think we'd have less older generations blaming/dismissing younger generations and vise versa. 👏💜

Easiest to think in these terms. K-Pop is an industry . It covers most genres and includes soloists and groups and is a term used mostly in the west to indicate that the artist is from Korea and has music that is popular. In Korea they don't really use the term K-Pop cause they call them Idols (or Idol groups). It is not common for Idol groups (or even any western boybands) to write their own music or be so involved in their art.
BTS due to their creative freedom and input into their music have broken thru the barriers that come with being called "KPop Idols" and have become "Global Artists" instead. That said they are extremely proud towards their country of birth so being referred to as KPop stars does not bother them.. The reason so many ARMY get upset is that it is usually used in a derogatory manner when people just dismiss BTS as some little "KPop boyband". As you will find most (not all) of KPop and boybands are innane lyrics to boppy tunes and no real substance, they have little creative freedom or choice of music.
Each of them are talented artists in their own right, and together they have created something truly incredible.
throw out all your expectations of what BTS, boybands, KPop or music genres is.... and just enjoy an incredibly wild ride!!
If you would like to get to know a great South Korean female group, i highly recommend Mamamoo (a 4 woman vocal and visual powerhouse).... they also come from a small company and have had creative freedom to write their own music....check out their live vocals I highly recommend Mamamoo Live Dingo Killing Voice performance czcams.com/video/WvkTcNQsxzc/video.html

      Yes and no.
      It's a little complicated.
Personally I like how bby gang mag has defined "K-pop" and Korean music history in his video essays.
The most interesting one is "BTS s. K-pop" as it has a whole section on music but I think the series around "you are wrong about K-pop" is also very relevant and than there is "BTS: more than K-pop"

💜🇧🇷💜Hi there!!!BTS Army from Brazil! Thanks so much for your time to checking out BTS and showing respect to our boys. BTS and Big Hit start small and they grown as the largest music company in Korea, now they are part of the HIBE Company, just like BTS Army started smaller and it’s now the biggest and most active and organized fandom in the 🌎!!! They coming from nothing and always appreciate the smallest things, like first concert, with about 300 people for free, getting their first 200 subscribers in CZcams!! They are very down to earth and sincere and that’s way even more mature groups of individuals like me (51 years older and plus) have so much love and respect for all the members of this group. 💜💜 thanks so much for your reaction 💜💜

    👋 Hi,
Thanks for reacting to this video... she gives a great overview of the group.
I highly recommend Taylor's Guide to the Bangtan 7 which introduces you to each of the members.
Helpful hint for the guide: Not sure if you know.... Korean people used to count age differently to others...
Korean Age vs International Age - difference is 1-2 years depending on if their birthday has been.... In most older videos, including this guide, they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust.
So, The members were only 13-18 years old when they became trainees and 15-20 yo when they debuted.
In Korea when you were born you were considered 1 year old. Then on Korean new year every year you added another year to your age, no matter what your birthdate is. ....
Year of birth - International age at Debut on 13June13 (Year and age became trainee)
    Jin 1992 - 20 yo (2011 - 18yo)
    Suga 1993- 20 yo (2011 - 17yo) Suga started with MIDI at 11
    JHope 1994 - 19 yo (2011 - 17yo)JHope started dancing at 8
RM 1994 - 18 yo (2010 - 15yo) RM started rapping at 11 and was well known in the underground scene at 13
    Jimin 1995 - 17 yo (2012 - 16yo)
    V 1995 - 17 yo (2011 - 15yo)
    JK 1997 - 15 yo (2011 - 13yo) JK signed with big hit at 13yo
Rule of thumb for older videos - if it's before their birthday - subtract 2 years to get international age. if it's after their birthday - subtract 1 year to get their international age.
    EG: TaeHyung (V) born 30 Dec 1995 ...... current International Age 27 (Korean Age 29). ... 2 years difference
So Tae born 30 Dec 95 is 1 year old, then on 01 Jan 96 he is 1 more year older (so they would say he is 2 years old, when we would say he is 2 days old.)
So he was considered 29 in Korea since 01 January, we would say he is 27 turning 28 in Dec.
It's a different way of looking at age, from new years day - Tae is living his 29th year (since conception) - instead of - he turned 27 (since birth)....
The Korean Government has recently (June28) brought in international age as the standard in Korea, but all older videos/ interviews/ shows, will be referencing Korean age.
💜Have a great day... sending greetings from Australia.

I have been corrected by someone claiming to be Korean:
They said that in Korea they used to become a year older at the start of the Lunar calender - not the one we use - as that is in SK thought of as the more important date.

First off, Thank you for reacting to Celeste. She is very respected in the ARMY. Second, I love your hat. And lastly, I've been ARMY since 2017. I am currently 51 y.o. and even though I respected and loved the guys before this year. This year tested my strength both physically and mentally. In April I was diagnosed with Cervical cancer, stage 2. When I went through treatments like chemo, they were with me, listening to their music, watching their shows or live preformances, all of it to help me get through them. Rounds and rounds of chemo and radiation takes it toll. But my family and BTS got me through. ARMY was with me as well. Encouraging me, helping me. I got through all of it and I'm on the other side. All I have to do now is wait to see if it worked. The one thing I hope for is that just like I did last year, I hope to see them in person in 2025, if only to show them a sign to say Thank You. So yes, they do help people heal.
Again, thank you for reacting, I hope to see more reactions soon.

everything in this video is still 100% true though this video is a little outdated as are all introduction videos because bts are evolving every day especially the last 2 years due to their military service theyve been constantly releasing solo music and other content and one by one enlisting so majority of the introduction videos dont have the updates on their solo careers only their previous solo music prior to 2022. plus they grew a lot bigger in 2020 even though in 2019 they were already selling out stadiums of 90,000 people but in 2020 they skyrocketed to a new level and broke many records etc i agree with another comment to react to taylors guide because thats the most up to date and i also suggest reacting to the hardships video but make sure its the 2021 version so thats up to date too.

There are some excellent analysis channels that dissect and interpret lyrics and videos as non native Korean speakers it is easy to miss the nuances and cultural references especially in the rap tracks.

xCeleste had her Hardship vid updated a few years later. The title has (updated) in the name or something similar.
She also has a vid called "This is Army" but I wish she would update more of her vids.
The last essay she made was when Jimin's sales numbers were cut at the beginning of the year. But she does have an interesting blog.
Our best documentary is probably "The Rise of Bangtan"-series. The bonus is also funny and the deleted scenes add to the thematic episodes. It has a lot of context.
BTS has BTW signed on HYBE and Big Hit Music for another contract reccently. Boracity magazine has a vid to it.
She also has a vid for pretty much all their music of chapter 1 - which ended in summer of 2020 (I think she missed a song and maybe stuff from pre-debut - because that is obscure - and I don#t always like her song interpretations but overall I think it is 99% very good).
Otherwise looking into bby gang mag's video essays (also on his channel Elliot Sang) are very interesting.
I like jumping between the songs of BTS but in the right timeline they also tell a story of coming of age: school, youth under hardship, philosophical/in literature, self-love and psychological. And than here is their pandemic album Be and the anthology stuff + the songs they made waiting for the "break" of solo work and military service which took a little time.
    You nice! Keep going! 💜

Actually, Taylor has said that she considers her Guide to be complete for chapter 1. She does not intend to update it for that reason. She will do a separate Chapter 2 guide that encompasses all of the solo projects and any awards received during "Chapter 2", and she is currently soliciting input on the Chapter 2 guide through her Twitter account now. She won't finish it, however, until Jin's solo album can be included (and any other solo endeavors that they release while in the military, which RM has hinted will happen, for him at a minimum, but j-hope also has his "Hope on the Street" project that will be released while he's serving. Thanks for looking at this, one of the best summaries of BTS - also check out the Hardships and This is BTS ARMY by xCeleste, as well as Taylor's excellent video mentioned below.
OK I admit I do think of BTS as Kpop, but I also do feel slightly uncomfortable about doing that, because in the "West" Kpop is widely misunderstood as mostly superficial poppy, sunny music where artificially created groups are given music and choreography to perform
In fact, ANY group that succeeds in what is an inSANELY competitive industry, is creative, talented and ridiculously hardworking. In the past it was rare for idol groups (the term used in Korea) to be allowed to write their stuff, but that is changing, though I still think that few are given the artistic freedom BTS always had.
Also, Kpop is NOT all lightweight superficial pop music. Suga gave us what I think is the best definition -
"Suga, asked about whether Kpop would be an accurate definition of BTS' genre, said
‘I’m a little bit wary of that but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be “integrated content”.’ …
"‘Kpop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that "I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach Kpop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.’ " Metro 28 10 2919
Kpop can be ANY genre, and BTS have at least 15 different styles under their belt. It can be any subject, and BTS is not now the only band taking on difficult subjects (though they were the first to do so as consistently as they did)
Actually, I lied. The artists credited with 'making' or starting Kpop are Seo TaeJi and Boys a hip hop band from the 90s. Look them up. Of course, it's all in Korean so you need subs! Around that time there was another financial crisis in Korea and many households were under huge pressure, young people felt bullied and abused and (I think it was hundreds of) thousands left home and disappeared with no trace. They ran away - the distress across the country was huge. STJ&B released a song called Come Back Home, which was an appeal to kids to at least contact their families. Thousands upon thousands phoned home or went into police stations and asked them to get a message to their parents.
In addition, at a time when every song lyric had to be approved / censored by military authorities, STJ&B released a song (title forgotten), the lyrics were censored and they refused to change them simply releasing an instrumental, at huge risk to their careers. Massive protests : the law was changed. DKDKTV have a video about the impact of STJ&B. All their songs were protest songs : they have described BTS as the real inheritor of their legacy in jip hop. They had a 24 year anniversary reunion concert and invited BTS to collab - czcams.com/video/7cIlPIVL5G8/video.html ... sorry no subs on this but it's still epic.

@@NateRockneoh yeah BTS tributes Michael Jackson a lot in their music, music videos, and choreo. BTS are huge fans of him and the whole Jackson family. Actually the Jackson family are huge fans of BTS as well; Michael Jackson's nephew even said if Michael was still alive today he would have been best friends with BTS. BTS even got to meet Janet Jackson backstage at a Korean award show where RM also presented her with a legends award.

looking forward to your reaction to Taylor's intro guide video. More BTS reactions please! Don't know what music genres you generally prefer, but if you want some BTS songs that have more rock vibes, I suggest Dionysus or More by their rapper J-Hope. If you want rap rap, go with Born Singer or Outro: Tear by their 3 rappers. Or solo songs by their rappers like Yun by RM, Haegeum by Agust D, Baseline by J-Hope.

I prefer TAYLOR MARI GUIDE TO THE BANGTAN 7. ..the only reason is because it shows their individual characters, hobbies, and how they relate to each other and the culture of excellence that is off set by naturally hilarious goofballs. You can see why this group managed to live together for most of the last 10 years.... and despite their individual successes have chosen to re-sign as a group. I smiled so much, though its a longer guide it seemed shorter. After you watch both guides you will cover some of the same ground but there is plenty of insights to justify both. We will certainly watch till the end. Celest does the best hardship video.

Asian vocal groups are called "idol groups". Boy- or girlband is not a proper name for several reasons - like everythnig in life also music grows forward and changes. And you have been starting to see they are not what western past boybands were - and boy_band_ is silly name anyway as rare boybands would have intruments on stage as a 'band' would imply. 💜
So Asian call these type of groups "idol groups" and performers in them "idols". if course there is also bands and other type of vocal groups in Asia, and they are not all idol groups. But what K-pop (and J-pop, C-pop..) _industry_ groups are called is idol groups. 💜
there is lingo in everythnig, and K-pop lingo it's it's own thing. Everytime groups publishes a new album it is called a 'comeback', terms of group positions of lead- and main- are inverted in status level compared to western terms.. And we call our performers idols. 💜
There is whole new culture here around the music, and also in our fandom activity it it's own culture. And then there is literally different culture behind these performers, as most of the K-pop idol groups are mainly Korean people culturally, so there is their cultural things to consider and learn. Like the age hierarchy system that permeates their whole culture. 💜
And with ARMY there is a several cultures to consider - we are from 6 continents and from cultures all over. We are all different, and we area l the same, we are all human. And we all purple. (You understand when you see the Taylor Mari's guide
