  • Teach For Nepal Walkathon is a solidarity walk event organized to raise awareness of education inequality in Nepal on 23 July, 2022
In Nepal, public school students come from low-income families and socially marginalized communities. In rural Nepal, students Teach For Nepal Fellows teach come to school on foot walking long distances. Some of our students walk as much as 2-3 hours one way just to get to a school. Teach For Nepal Walkathon is thus a solidarity walk to commit ourselves that no children, regardless of socioeconomic status, will be left behind. Through Walkathon, participants symbolically express commitment that we are committed to walking together with the children to ensure that every single one of them has the same opportunity and choices that children who attend Nepal's private schools have.
After the walkathon, the youths culminated in a closing ceremony. The closing ceremony led by Nepal's folk instrumental band Kutumba. This special performance by Kutumba and the violin group Gharana presented a folk tune, 'Lekaka Hami Ketaketi,' written initially by Aavash and music by Raamesh. This song presents the desires of little kids in rural Nepal to go to school but are barred due to household chores and many other limitations. Teach For Nepal has been serving in rural Nepal to fight against the existing education inequity in Nepal.
