His purple tongue gives away his Chow Chow heritage more than anything else
Even though no asked (that I saw so far) but was probably thinking it, thank you for that tidbit. While watching the video my head resembled my dog because it was cocked to the side wondering or trying to figure out why his tongue was purple
is that something that chow chows have a lot?
@@user-ho4tb5qe7v It's a characteristic of the breed, most Chow Chows have a purple/black tongue.
@@user-ho4tb5qe7v Chow Chow’s are one of the only two breeds of dogs to have a purple tongue. A chow chow without a purple tongue is like a Dalmatian without its black spots. It’s a characteristic for the breed special for that breed, and if that breed doesn’t have it then it’s a small mutation
@@min_says_h3110 Any breed of dog can have a purple tongue as it's just a pigment spot inside the mouth, but since it's only part of the breed standard in Chows and Shar-Pei, people assume every dog with a purple tongue is "part" of one of those breeds. It's a myth that only Chows and Shar-Pei can have a purple tongue.
For those wondering, Chow Chows have a blue/purple tongue. It's a trait of the breed, so he's okay! In other breeds it would be a concern, but for Chows it's normal.
I was wondering if it was! Thanks :)
I heard it was because they thought a tongue that color would scare away evil spirits.
@@magicjewel96 Well, I saw no evil spirits during his bath, so it works!
I'm not a dog owner or even a big dog enthusiast, but I know chow chows have blue/purple tongues. I'm surprised that there are those here who didn't know that as I thought it was common knowledge.
Yeah I was about to ask
I rescued a chow/Shep mix. Only took 3 wks to catch him. Lol. That dog was the kindest, gentlest boy I've ever had. Named him Theodore, deep red coat with a mane like a lion. He was so majestic. So great and protective with children. I sure do miss that boy Theo! 😓
Aw, im sorry..
🫂 he lived a great life, and probably made awesome memories thanks to you
I had a marvelous Chow/Samoyed mix named Winston. He was amazingly sweet and gentle but protective when necessary. I got him at a year and a half and he passed away at 16. He was such a good boy.
The chow shepherd I grew up with passed last year. She was such a character. They called her Queen Sophie at the dog park. Miss her. Sorry for your loss
I love both breeds but never saw a mix before
Yall are such a gift! My groomer actually tried to express my dogs glands because they were inflamed/swollen. We later found out he had hook worms I took him immediately after we picked him up. My dog really just goes in for a bath and nail trim but I wouldn't trade her for anything. She's helped us and him (former bait dog severe anxiety) so much! Love you steph!
Hi AJayy I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….
I'm so glad she found a home that loves her - the idea of a bait dog just gives me nightmares. I can't imagine what that was like for her - it breaks my heart that there are such monsters out there that were allowed anywhere near an animal.

That squeaky whine is so adorable. He's such a floofy boy!
I have never seen a dog that was content with being in the bath, sprayed down with water, and blowdried, but hated being brushed. Very unique dog!
My dog is the same way! The brush pulls his fur, and he absolutely despises it!
My dog hates every single one of those
You find some odds ones. I had one that liked water, but hated soap
it's probably a very chill dog that has experienced pain being brushed from pulling at matted fur
I guess he's just more sensitive. I mean, if I had that much hair and there was this stupid little thing tugging at my knots and tangles I'd be irritated too.
A German Shepherd/Chow Chow mix that looks like a Golden Retriever. Fascinating.
I thought this dog looked like a golden samoyede.

Oh my god, this made me cry, my family had a german shepherd/chow when I was a kid. He was an outlier because somehow he wound up being a total sweetheart.
Aren't GS total sweethearts? I heard they are.
Thanks! You are amazing! I love watching how kind you are and how much the dogs and cats love you!
I'll give him some credit for showing his teeth instead of rushing straight to tooth time, he seems like a pretty cool dude for a Chow
She mentioned he lives on a farm, so must have good deal of patience when dealing with all sorts of animals bothering him or when he is doing his job. My GSD will show teeth and growl if he is upset or wants to be left alone. But the 2 times ive actually seen him want to hurt something he becomes twice his size extending all of his coat, its majestic af. Scary for whoever hes aggressing towards though.
I've seen a 22" white poodle turn into a polar bear of rage when her family was threatened, and our timid mutt (who basically looks like... if Dobby were a chicken kiev? we think he's a chibahuanu, aka a shiba inu/chihuahua mix, with some other stuff thrown in for good measure ) tripled in size and snarled like a tiger when he thought I was in trouble.
Tooth time😭😭I’m stealing that
Hahaha oh how this resonates with me. They can be cool indeed... just mostly to their pet parents... 😅 or so I like to think 🤔 😏 ☺
Yea hats off to the owner/s as well
He looks like a giant, fluffy Golden Retriever.
Yea, thought he has Golden Retriever genes too.
I’ve finally identified my dog after 12 years. She’s almost identical lacking the purple tongue, her ears are a tad longer as is her tail so it doesn’t curl back up, she’s a little larger, must have gotten a bit more of the TS than Chow. We’ve always thought she was a Golden mix but the talking and whining, ridiculous undercoat, and smaller ear canals says maybe not. She’s a silly sweetheart.
Not really. He legit looks like a chow and shepherd mix to me lol
Looks like an oversized Corgi to me :D
I wish you had been my poodle's first groomer. He was traumatized, and I have been grooming him ever since. He is 6 now. Seriously, blessings on you for doing this with so much care.

Respect! She clearly loves dogs but I love the "matter of fact" approach.
I grew up with a ChowChow and later volunteered at a shelter and would often have to inform people that yes even tho they are cute and fluffy they are NOT family dogs. ChowChows actually really hate children and tend to be aggressive towards other household members if they don't have a close relationship with them. My childhood one was very close to me as I was his main provider(I was homeschooled so i fed him/walked him/played with him etc) and would often growl at my dad for getting close. Which is why theyre so often found in shelters, people see a fluffy dog and dont realize how they act. You can tell his owners train him well tho bc if he wanted to bite he would have but he stopped each time.
As with every breed it depends on the animal itself. I grew up with a Chow myself, my dad bought him for me when I was 3. He was my best friend and protector and he was great with every other member of the family, even ones he didn't see very often. Socializing is also key, which many owners neglect with any breed. My current Chow Koda is fine for the groomer and goes with me to pet stores. He's never shown any aggression. People also say Chows hate cats. But if they're properly trained and raised with cats they get along with them fine. Both my past Chow and my current one are good with cats.
I grew up with this same mix. I guess his Shepard must have overcome his chowchow cuz that fog loved us kids but just us. I could put my hand in his food bowl, I could take it while he was eating. He never snapped or growled at me. He tolerated my cousins who lived next door.
The rest of the neighborhood still crossed the street when they got to our house for years after he died 😂😂😂

I'm into genetics and find dog's genetics very interesting/intriguing
In this case it more likely that Song Qi's biological dog mother is a Chow-chow and father is a German shepherd
Chows are some of the best dogs I’ve ever had. We had a boy who would let our kids nap on him, cuddle him for hours, and was the most gentle creature with family and strangers alike. I highly recommend the breed if you can be patient.

This girl has more accommodation and care for these pets than my school does for anyone's welfare

Same school?
@@lycheemyusic If your school :
- Has no accommodation for those with special needs (like myself)
- Solutions to long term problems are just "throw them in designated private room"
- Not solve bullying issues, despite a su*cide happening a few weeks ago because of it
- Has no care for mental welfare of any students
- Refuses to take responsibility for anything, and blames it on you (i had no idea it was the mock exams week. i was not informed as i was doing half days at school. they blamed it on me and said it must have "went over my head". instead of saying sorry it was their fault.
- Blames your parents for everything. Blamed my mum for not knowing things as she doesn't have a mobile and didn't receive an email. she has a tablet. she did not receive an email at all.
- makes fake promises. i was told i was getting a toilet pass for my lactose intolerance. that was 2 years ago. still dont have it
- doesnt care for general issues. they assigned me the wrong tests. i was supposed to be doing higher biology and lower chemistry and physics. they mixed it up somehow. lower biology and higher chem and physics. they told me they'd get it changed. they didnt
Then yea, probably the same school!! :D
@@No-is2cj My school has SO MANY of those same issues..along with the fact kids with special needs (need help with learning, behavior problems, or physically challenged) are often not given work past 5th grade work along with being forced to do janitor work for free like cleaning windows (especially cleaning them of that damn finger pain the school puts up like every month) or picking up litter..It's really sad. They treat kids as stupider than they are.
along with my school being poorly built and poorly maintained, my classroom literally was unable to be used for like a month+ because the ceiling collapsed and flooded the room! There's horrible leaks and thus mold so the classroom smelt like mold for a LONG time, their bright idea was to fan it out into the hall and out a door..made the hall unbreathable, they stopped trying that after a bit, and when we were using the class again the carpet was STILL wet and squishy along with just missing the ceiling bit so we could the inside of the ceiling and I'm unsure if it got fixed.
How his scary face went back to the face of innocence immediately everytime he was brushed was amusing.

Me when i walk into work
My rescue boy's rear end is of similar floofiness. When we adopted him a year ago, he did NOT like that part of his body brushed. I was gentle and was using the appropriate brush for his coat, but he showed me teeth anyways. Every brushing session, I would see how much he'd let me do and if he showed teeth, I would stop. He's never attempted to bite me, but he was warning me that he didn't like it. We had a breakthrough this August when he was blowing coat, and I was brushing him nearly every day. He learned that I won't hurt him with the brush and that it actually feels nice. I recently gave him a bath and towel dried him as the dryer scared him. He let me brush all over and now he's the softest he's ever been. Patience and trust pays off! Thanks for the great video!

I wish i knew why my 11 year old fluff ball cat is so scared of water. It may be that she was born outside, but i got her as a baby and she only gets baths for hairballs or fleas (because i have hairball shampoo) and brush and comb when she lets me. I hate seeing her so scared, but love the way she sticks to me--its like shes saying "mom protect me its gonna hurt me", when all it is, is warm wet water...
Like my GSD with his nails. He hated having the nails on his left paw clipped and would always try to hide it. It took him years before he was comfortable enough to let us do it. From 30 minutes down to about 5-10.
I've only met two chow chow dogs in my life. Both times involved me damn near getting bit. One involved me losing an umbrella, and the other one involved me losing a backpack.
From my experience they are very protective
honestly, I still have somewhat of an irrational fear of them. my sister had one named Argos, and he came to live with us when she had to come back home. he bit me three times, each of varying severity. I have a pretty considerable scar above my right knee, and I’m really lucky he didn’t slice my hand open. as a side note, my sisters ex husband was the one who got Argos, with no knowledge of the breed or anything, and he had been abandoned by a previous owner at the shelter, and seemed very traumatized by all of it. I don’t blame him, but I’d be lying if I said seeing my neighbor’s chow doesn’t make me nervous as hell 😂
That sounds like a pretty reaspnable fear, you've been bitten mutiple times! Chows are VERY protective and need lots of socializing as early and often as possible so they *don't* bite people
Well my one of my neighbor's has chow chow who NEVER barks at all. And my dog (mutt) who enjoys barking to other dogs didn't ever do it to him. A calm and beautiful dog he is.
Seeing him melt during his bath and blow dry was so sweet. I felt relaxed just watching him
Thank you so much for not taking the risk of a bite. You're one of the few animal advocates online I tell people kids should watch because you're such a good peer in the safety department.
Seriously, thanks for that. The world could use more peers like you.
And I’d also like to add that she also did a good thing and pointed out that the muzzle wasn’t bite proof, which is another important thing to note. I was holding a dog with a coworker for a medical exam once (we were inserting an IV, he was going down for a dental cleaning and I was the “head tapper”, not actually holding the dog but distracting him so he didn’t fight the tech putting the needle in) who had on a muzzle because he was known to be a biter. Dog had on the best fitting and smallest dog muzzle we had (he was a Pomeranian), and even with my distraction and my coworker’s tight hold, once we stuck him with the IV line he went ballistic and managed to bite my coworker in the face THROUGH THE MUZZLE. Coworker was sent to urgent care for stitches and a new note was added in the computer that he needed a cat muzzle (which is plastic and covers the whole face) rather than a dog one (which is only supposed to hold the mouth shut). He’s the only dog I’ve ever put a cat muzzle on before and he’s my cautionary tale for never taking muzzles for granted.
I love her safety consciousness too! Grooming is stressful, dogs can bite when stressed that's just fact. It's also a fact that, as a big dog, had she been bitten there's a higher chance the dog would be euthanised as a result. It's not just for her safety but for the dog's too.
Agreed. Informative and a well-behaved human she is :)
@@amandah2866 I've been bitten by a big dog. It wasn't his fault but he was a bully breed and I knew the city would demand his destruction. I refused to tell them which dog bit me, just that I knew it had its shots. He's a good boy, he was just very stressed out and I surprised him.

Ahh I use to groom a dog just like that! We all thought he was a golden retriever and chow chow mix. The before and afters were always so satisfying. Also we referred to muzzles as “party hats” hahahaha
Party hat sounds so adorable
I think there has to be some golden in this dog, too.
@@jennifers9389 Maybe one of his parents was GS and GR mix and another was purebred Chow Chow?
Or a Samoyed and a Chow Chow mix. 🤔
Coquito is SO CUTE!! The bug eyes!!
I can't believe how relaxing I find your videos.
He looks a lot happier at the end and I don't think it's just because it's all over! He looks very handsome :D
Seeing these floofy boys makes me glad I have a short-hair dog. He's a Pit-Border Collie mix so he has softer, slightly longer hair than a usual Pit. Sheds up a storm but I don't have to worry about grooming or matting on him. Just a weekly brush and occasional bath and he's good.
woah that sounds adorable!
pit + collie sounds amazing but also chaotic. have heard pits have a heart of gold, and from experience collies are from another planet lol
must be a sweetheart 💛💛
Heart of gold and a whirlwind of chaos. You really hit the lottery! I bet he looks so pretty! :0
"Muzzle of shame" 😂
He must feel sooooooo much better with all those dead cells off
I'm so happy to see a chow chow here, considering their reputation of being mean and fierce this makes me relieved to know that is it truly how you raise them that makes the dog 🥺
They aren't so much mean and fierce as unpredictable and almost perversely cruel.
Spent a career in law enforcement, these were the dogs that you simply never knew what they were going to do. Also, off leash terrors in neighborhoods too, just horrible things I've seen this breed do.
@@JD-tn5lz I think you misspelled "they're an ultra-protective guard breed that requires constant, strict training and stimulation that they don't obtain from the people who buy them because they're pretty" but I fixed it for you.
No bad dogs. No bad breeds. Only bad owners.
@@robbiirvine1038 I could NOT have said it better. No breed prejudice allowed. 👏🏼
@@JD-tn5lz definately unpredictable , I used to groom dogs and the chows rarely showed emotion , making it very hard to know what they were thinking . We never did anything the chow didn’t like especially touch the nails . As a kid I remember a chow that was allowed loose in the neighborhood , luckily it kept a distance from us but not smart to let them loose
@@JD-tn5lz of course you'd think that, copper
THE FLUFFINESS!! THE WHINING!! So cute!!😍😢
I love your terminology like "grinch feet" and "murder mittens" and "most favorite"
That was the most impressive before and after Ive ever seen. You do such a wonderful job and your love of dogs really shows.💗
The before and after is amazing. Looks like someone pulled a switch-a-roo when your back was turned. Beautiful dog.
Once you see those intimidating canines, best thing is to put on the muzzle. He's a gorgeous pupper.
I love watching the water nozzle that you used . . . . . . it looks like the fur is melting!
I am amazed and appreciative at the hair you get out in the tub. It looks incredible, water pushing out loads of hair. I believe Chows are one of the worst biters and German Shepherd are up there, too. SOOO, you have a lot to handle with him and you did so good !! Perhaps his owners don't brush him enough. Well done !
Whenever we see dramatic transformations like this, I wish you would do a side-by-side comparison short of the two photos.
Agreed!
1:58 - I am snek
Our family dog when i was a kid was Keeshond/ChowChow/German Shepherd. Her name was Keesha (we didn't know we were pronouncing her breed wrong lol). We had a family daycare and she was so good with all of us, she lived to be 14. She was the best dog. :) We luckily had a groomer down the street.
My dog licks the air too when he gets butt scratches and his ears cleaned! Lol 😂 you're amazing Vanessa! Thank you for everything you do 😊
His owners must have been so happy with the results. He's like a brand new doggo!
A German Shepherd and a Chow-chow, what an epic romance that must've been.
My dog Lexi has a mix of 20 breeds in her (according to her DNA test), but the largest chunk (20%) is Chow. That explains her thick double coat (not quite as thick as this dog). She gets quite floofy in the winter and then she looks like she's dropped 20lbs after her coat blows and she is defloofed!
He is soooo cute when he's enjoying his shower and blow dry!! And he looks so fluffy and huggable
