Rebecca, I have recommended your videos to a local charity that provides food to low income families. The director of the charity thinks they will be a valuable resource to their clients. You reach more people than you may realize and you show such compassion. Hoping you will recover soon and be back to full health.

Meaning, my family won't be eating salad and fresh veggies and steak for every meal. But, they'll be full. During the summer, when we have our garden, I will say 50 to 75 bucks is doable for us as well. But, the flip side is we have to work way harder for it. If you have time to budget and plan, it's easier to achieve this budget amount

we now like to make out chili dogs as a casserole. break any bread up into bite sizes (buns, bread, rolls anything) cut the hotdogs in bite size slices and a can of chili dog sauce a squeeze of ketchup a dash of mustard mix all together (including onions and what not) and give a good stir, place some hotdogs or bun pieces evenly disburter and ass some cheese and serve or pop in oven or microwave for a few seconds and then serve.

Any sandwich you make can be made better, by toasting your bread. Take a mayo packet and lightly brush it and toast in a skillet. This is how I make grilled cheese, as well. Also, if you have a gas stove, you can roast the hotdogs on a open flame, similar to bbq or campfire dogs. Another trick I like to use with hotdogs and sausages is hitting them with a cheese grater. Fry that on the stove, especially with a little seasoning or aromatics, it turns into a whole new thing. I hope this helps. I loved this video. Thank you, so much!

There are different versions in different regions and as many recipes as there are people who make it. My version comes from my Acadian grandmother. It is basically grated potato and onion with meat, most often pork (it's the tastiest) but chicken is sometimes used. It is baked in a pan or casserole dish. It can easily be upsized or downsized and, other than the potato and onion, other ingredients can be played with. I think it is a hearty affordable meal. If you like I can share my recipe with you.

The local pantries love to give you canned goods. How would you use canned Salmon, tuna, ground beef or ground pork (all 4 are canned products)? They also hand out lots of different types of dried beans. Lentils seem to be there favorite to hand out. :S Here a typical box of food from a pantry is 1 can of tuna, 1 can of Salmon, 1can of ground beef or ground pork (24oz). Then you get 2 cans of soup, one can of green beans, 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can of spaghetti sauce, noodles, and 1 can of mixed fruit. Then you get a bag with 1 stick of butter, 6 eggs, and 1 package of ground beef in a plastic roll if they have it. If they have random items like crackers or cookies then you get those too. This is typical for a family 1-3 people here at a no choice pantry. Then the fresh box you pick up typically will have 2 pounds of beans (usually lentils), 1 3-5 pound bag of potatoes, 3 pound bag of apples, either a 1 pound bag of walnuts or a 1 pound bag of roasted almonds, and last few months a small tub of cottage cheese and a 3 pound box of cheese that i would say is the generic of Velveeta.
My question to you is could you show ways to use the salmon, lentils, cottage cheese and that 3 pound block of cheese. You don't have to use all of these in one dish. Just ideas for those that are getting these items.

Living on a really tight budget, not using the usual go to options is a great idea. Your prices seem really high in America. Using the generic store brands is not always cheaper, oftentimes they come in different size packages or have fillers in them. When on a tight budget I recommend taking a calculator with you. Also I don’t know if your supermarket chains do 2nd grade fruit and vegetables for example a 1kg bag of wonky carrots comes in at 60p for one person on their own like me, that will do me a whole month, the wonky asparagus were 80p for 3 portions. Regular asparagus for the same size package is £2.39. The wonky sweet potato is 60p for 2kg. The regular sweet potato are £1.39/kg so as you can see it really does pay to shop the wonky fruit and veg, Asda have the equivalent of wonky veg called great value veg, most of the supermarkets here have them it’s just a matter of finding out what they are called. You are limited to seasonal vege, but I freeze a lot of my produce as I cannot get through it quick enough this means I still have produce out of season. I shop monthly that way I get more bang for my buck. It does mean I have to batch cook and freeze my vegetables but it also gives greater variety. £15 / day does not yield the same £105/week.
Hope you feel better soon would love to see more meals like these ones. I enjoy watching your videos as you do try to stay away from the usual suspects. I know it’s hard to get away from using the hotdog sausages, and deli ham or eggs but seeing you use the crab substitute was inspiring, and using stuffing mix to make the cakes was also a novel idea.

      @nixi-bixi Před 2 měsíci

We in the UK are having time of it with food prices but I am very grateful to be in the UK Vs the USA. Not only are our increased prices cheaper than the USA, they are generally significantly cheaper. Plus we have more rigorous food safety regulations so we know what is in our food has been deemed safe Vs hasn't *yet* caused any harm like in the USA. Whilst we too have issues with ultra processed food, we can get stables & seasonal veg and fruits at decent prices Vs only being able to get ultra processed food at budget prices. The fact that you have to be "better off" in the USA to be able to cook from scratch, fresh food is a travesty.
Whilst the NHS has been significantly underfunded for over a decade, at least with nationalised health care, our government has skin in the game to at least legislate against things that are harmful or else be burdened with sick people needing health care and reducing the amount available for tax if unable to work. Tho I do hope that when we get a new government later this year, that they put the focus back on building the NHS back up, despite the time it will take.

@@nixi-bixi absolutely, as a single person on my own my monthly spend has gone up to £55.00, and a 3-4 monthly spend of £30.00 (for staples like popcorn, soya products, grains, legumes, cornmeal, flour, cooking oils, spices, powdered milk, sugar etc) for that I get three meals a day made from scratch meals plus snacks. That’s around £2.00 per day. I’m constantly taken aback by their prices over in the USA. We can always get some form of unprocessed meat in the value brands, be it chicken, pork or beef. Making one’s own bread is cheap, and can be used as bread, or bread crumbs or as part of a meal, and making pancakes is pennies, they freeze superbly, the same recipe can be used to make vegetable fritters, or pancakes. The sweet potatoes that are so cheep at the moment can also be used to make pancakes, which freeze fantastically or as you would any other potatoes, and it freezes superbly.

...Miss Rebecca... : I watch your Channel , as tine permits, but rateky Comment... I have to say that using this Format did bring a touch of " elegance " to your Video ... perhaps incorporate both, these and the Regular ones, depending on the Food, and what " feeling " you wish to convey at the time...I enjoy both types.
That was good ,basic Foods that still were Price friendly and filling, which is of importance.
I do not like Crab ( of any kind ) so I would probably substitute Salmon ( which kids are / will be more inclined to eat, lol) because I grew up eating those, still love them.
I believe you Bless many with your approach to finding ways to eat on a Budget , and to try do so without having a n y o n e feel any shame or anything else,in feeding themselves or thier Family. I say Bravo and Well done to that. ...👏🏻🍽
You offer helpful ideas ,and take into account what others may / may not have on hand, when you are providing these Videos.
Prayers for you to heal soon and be feeling 💯 percent. 🙏🏻
( I have used this Concoction for years, if I feel a cold coming on : 6- 8 ounces Hot water, lemon slices, some raw organic honey, a tiny bit of Organic turmeric. ...Stir and sip ,as you would Tea. You can use this at least twice a day if you wish to. )

She used imitation crab meat which is made with a white fish (and a bit of red food dye) then shaped to look like crab, so maybe this kind of "crab meat" would work for you.

This was a great video! Whoda thunk you could feed FOUR people for $15 for the whole day, and no pasta, beans, or rice? I love your videos. Been watching you for a few years now and never get tired of seeing what you come up with. Love it, keep 'em coming!
