  • Wind noise is an ongoing threat for us when we're out on the field recording sounds and making videos. We break down 3 elements to consider with wind noise... intention, preparation, and application. Of course prevention is key, but can artificial intelligence remove wind noise?! We had so much fun creating this tutorial and we promise it's not your average "how to" video!

    Great video! Just to explain, wind noise is the wind pressure causing the membrane of the microphone unable to react normally to the vibration of the sounds you're trying to record. Whenever you record wind noise, you're actually loosing information of the sounds you want to record. So I would say it's better to prevent it in the first place.
    I usually just use a simple low cut filter on the region where wind noise occur so you don't remove the entire low end of your entire recording. You could also edit out those noise although this is usually really tedious to do. You're probably better of recording some new ones at this point which probably is the easier and faster way around 😁
    I have yet to find a plug-in that gives really satisfying results, or maybe I'm just not very good at using them lol.

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Kacey. Great points and yes prevention is always the best. If you do it right in the beginning you don't need to process the files that hard. RX has a a De Hustle and De Wind plugin and I heard people love it. There is also Brusfri from Klevgr and W43 from Waves.

    • @machinevalley5105
      @machinevalley5105 Před 4 lety

      @@FreeToUseSounds Yeah, I do own RX7 and WNS. But unless it's light wind, I almost always hear some artifacts and I end up using low cut filters lol. They're great for broadband noise and precision removal though.

    This was really interesting! Shows that wind noise prevention is really important, but that there are workarounds - if the wind noise is not too bad. Blending in ambients is a nice touch. Just make sure that the birds actually excist there - or it will also be strange.

    Marcel and Libby, great content as always. Your videos are always so highly produced and well-made.
    It's great to see that you work out of Audition! As someone who also uses Audition as their primary audio workstation, what is your workflow like when producing your libraries. I'm always looking to make improvements to my workflow and am curious mostly about your process getting your final files out the door.
    For example, I tend to record / perform many instances of a sound into one raw file. Then, I use markers and batch processing to get the individual clips out of that Raw file and split into the individual sounds. Not sure if that makes sense, but sometimes it seems a bit overly complicated the way I do it.
    Basically, I am just curious how you split up your files into the individual sounds and workflow in Audition.

      Taylor Mefford Hi Taylor! Always nice to see you here and thank you for watching. It’s a great idea for a video for sure. It all depends on what I record and for how long. If I have a 15 minute long file I cut the files every 3 minutes and start editing and listening back to each individual file. Then I cut out the unwanted parts put them back together and write meta for it. Is that what you mean?
