- Fall is beautiful in Germany and it's a perfect time to go foraging for mushrooms.
On this cold fall morning, as I sip my coffee and look into farmland behind our house I can’t but wonder how this day would unfold. How I’ve waited for this moment for years. How these simple pleasures of life, bring so much joy into my heart. Things which I used to value, I now realize are no longer important to me and things which I never used to value, are now priceless to me. Today we are going into the forest to forage for mushrooms. This one simple act, brings so much beauty and peace into my life.
As a Californian, I’ve never had the opportunity to forage for mushrooms. Just the idea of going into the forest alone is such a dreamy thing to do for me, but to forage for mushrooms seems like something that only happens in movies or stories I used to read when I was a child or movies I used to watch on television.
Fall is the best time to forage for mushrooms. With the right temperature, moisture, and ecosystem, the mushrooms grow in abundance. Today we are going to a privately owned forest, where we will harvest mushrooms and also safely be able to harvest moss without disrupting this beautiful ecosystem.
I am grateful and honored to share this journey with you.
Mushrooms are a phenomenon like everything else on this earth. The rain, sun, earth, trees align and give them the perfect environment to grow. I don’t know much about mushrooms so I am completely dependent on our friends to show me this amazing experience. Some mushrooms grow in synergy with the tree. There’s an exchange of life. The tree offers the mushroom sugars from photosynthesis, and in exchange the mushroom provides the tree with nutrients, making it stronger and giving it protection from disease.
It makes me think how wonderful this earth is. How wonderful nature is and how beautiful this forest is.
We humans have such a privilege to live this life. To experience this existence like no other being.
I realize now that often times in my life, I have taken so much for granted. Now I view life differently and I continue to learn. I continue to improve, and I continue to appreciate life. Life is not about taking, its about co-existing. It’s about respecting and protecting.
My. Jay, you are the most elegant "Schwammerlsucher" I've ever seen. :)
Thank you so much. You are very kind
enjoy the smalll things. They are so big.
Vielen dank :)
What a beautiful video and magical
Thank you Rasha
Wow what a wonderful video and thoughts! Red Riding Hood Jay in the forest. 🤣
I was in October with my siblings for a few days on the German Wine Route to hike, drink and eat. On one hike, in the Palatinate Forest, we found porcini mushrooms. My brother is a chef and has a star restaurant. He then made fresh pasta, plus the porcini mushrooms - what a treat!
Thank you both.🙋♂🙋♂
Thank you very much. How wonderful that your brother is a chef and what an amazing experience of finding mushrooms and having a professional chef make fresh pasta dish. These types of experiences create great memories and stories
Wow. This video makes me want to move into a forest. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you :)
So you are becoming more and more German: almost obsessed by the forests.
Fresh mushrooms in the pan with butter and onions, maybe little bacon and fresh herbs. And fresh buttered dark bread. Mmhhh.
I prefer within an omlett
Nice! It’s like a carpeted forest.
Oh wie schön! Wie Rotkäppchen:)
Danke

Wow, I’m amazed by the quality of this video! Keep going!
Thanks! 😃
Very interesting, I’m in USA 🇺🇸 and was curious of the mushroom species Germany 🇩🇪 has. Great video 👍
This one is probably "Maronenröhrling", en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imleria_badia
You are so ethereal. This was stunning 🌿
Thank you so much
@@JayStephan sure thing 🤗
I wonder how you feel when you rent a Reetdachkate for the first time and cook your foraged food on a Küchenhexe or AGA. Those are joys I miss dearly since I moved to the US.
I totally agree. Englisch punk Band 'killing joke' wrote a Song called money in which they say : best things in life are free. Existentiell words for me. Greetings from Bonn
I want to go to the forest right now!
Foraging, does this come frome Fourage?
Interesting that you are using this term.
Well, you should do truffel hunting in Istria in Croatia. One of the few places where they grow naturally.
Actually real truffels only come from there and parts of Italy.
You really should do this together and eat some nice creamy pasta with loads of truffels and a good local wine.
That sounds wonderful, thank you for the suggestion.
@@JayStephan Look at Gordon...at location of course. czcams.com/video/0S_KMRUhgTM/video.html
Also das Outfit war ja schon ganz gut aber Sneaker im Wald? ;) Es gibt doch auch schöne Wander- oder Lederschuhe dafür!
What i also want to know... how was the scene recordet at 1:56? There was backlight. Did you have used additional light?
Hello...no this was all natural light. It was a beautiful day :)
Dear friend
a german poem for anyone
Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh'
Über allen Gipfeln
Ist Ruh',
In allen Wipfeln
Spürest Du
Kaum einen Hauch;
Die Vögelein schweigen im Walde.
Warte nur! Balde
Ruhest du auch.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)
for u english:
Above all summits there is peace'
Above all peaks
Is peace
In all tops
Do you feel
Hardly a whiff;
The birds are silent in the forest.
Just wait! Balde
You rest too.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)
Thank you for sharing
nice poem but sounds a bit like a death threat xD
