- In this video we finish putting the lower control arms, tie rod end and tire on this '09 Ford Fusion. All that is left is to check the wheel alignment and make sure we cure the customer complaint of the clunk noise and shimmy. - Enjoy!

Now THIS is a real reality show. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Wow, learned a ton. Also, I want to eat lunch at South Main Repair and Restaurant.
When I was a kid my dad had a gas/service station. Some of my happiest memories were going to the junk yard. Coulda stayed there all day. Still love junk yards to this day.
I just recently came across this channel and I love it. The extra mile you go is amazing and what most people do not understand is that any little extra you do shows you care and you are setting yourself up for a life time customer. You should make a window sticker "SMA Lifer" and have them set up at your counter so people can buy them.
I really enjoy the videos you post, you seem like a good guy who wants to do an honest and good job and in this day and age this is a rare thing. I pledge not to ring you at work too!!
Great job Eric, you pointed out what makes a good mechanic great even without realizing it.ATTENTION TO DETAIL ! Wiping the grease ,spraying anti-rust on the installed parts, penetrating oil on tie rod ends for the alignment shop. That lady should feel fortunate to have you as her mechanic, she was riding on borrowed time with that tire.Putting not only herself at risk but other people,I always told my customers to come in twice a year, before winter and before summer.just to have a quick look see at their tires and to give the wheels a shake,FOR FREE.5 min of my time could save lives, and it some times you get a new customer from someone telling their friends ...hey why don't you let BOB my mechanic check your car out.he won't charge just to take a peek. Most people have other things on their mind that may seem at the time to be more important, than checking their tires.Keep it up.
I think all your considerate subscribers will leave u alone. We all get a pretty big chunk of your time anyway. Two hours on Wednesday. And a couple of hours of videos a week. They r all so personable, we just think u can’t wait to talk to us. That’s what the comments r for, right?
I like it how you offer the customer a front alignment only. I tried to argue that with a tyre shop even though it was only a little off spec and they would not have it. I did not want them to touch the rusty rear bolts. Got my own back...took the free check sheet home and with a the aid of a ruler and calculator and a long piece of wood I set the front as they said. Now it's perfect all for free.
This is an absolute classic episode. :-) Hilarious comments throughout accompanied by expert skills. Just killer. This so beats everything else on network TV, cable, etc. SMA rules.
Something satisfying about watching the grease boot swell up with new grease
Great job as always Eric O, filled in my Saturday morning just perfectly. Now time to go fix stuff, have a great weekend. Andy
Eric, thank you for the video, it made my day....keep up the awesome work and God bless you and your family always...
Your my favorite mechanic because your actual honest and that says a lot
Damn thanks for all these great videos you have definitely put in that O.T. this week.
Eric ,,, for some reason , i just find you totally entertaining ,, it does not matter what the job is, you as a person ,, just HAVE IT ,, i thank you for keeping a simple soul entertained :)
Best and most honest Mechanic, I wish he was in my town in KC.
I know this is an old video, and you might not see this comment, but I was gonna say. I always put those sleeves back in with a bolt and nut and large washers. Quick and easy with an impact.
Great video as usual sir.
Eh! Eric
Good job, I notice WUW clip I did comment on it, it may have been worse if YT"bers showed up with the paparazzi! wow, I'm sure you would be saying, Now, whats your problem lady ... ...... hope your viewers learn not to get too attached personally you really don't know them as they know you indirectly, watching your personality unfold before our eyes, kind gives a feeling of a friendly attachment kinda , you did and said well so they know where the line stops, with no malice intended, you have a very busy life trying to provide content here on youtube all the best we enjoy every minute keep safe thanks Eric
Joseph
You obviously conform to the idea of doing the kind of work that you would put your name on. You are very detail oriented and that makes my heart sing.
Excellent use of lubricating agents in this series.... !
Junkyards are awesome! Keep up the great work and videos Eric O!
This must be a northern car a lot of rust underneath. I have a 2010 it's been a great car well taken care of. 115,000 miles and still going strong. I learned a lot about my fusion. Thank you
I work on Northern California cars and after watching all the issues you have with rust, I’m glad I don’t have to deal with half that mess. My issue is F-ing sand everywhere. Always have to clean stuff off before so I don’t risk sand getting everywhere.
Meeee tooooo Eric!! I would love to own a JUNKYARD!! Sooooo many cool things to go through. I would never be home either...I love watching your fix it Auto videos. You are a talented guy. Take Care, Dan (Forest Hill, Md.)
Man just did my mkz .had to get torch and cutters .doin both sides so be good for winter .thanks bro I've learned alot from you last few years
A fellow owns a junkyard about 25 miles from me lives off the state road and in a county with no zoning. He has a salvage yard and has become very successful because he actually lives just as you drive onto the drive back the salvage yard. He built a very nice home big porches, brick it would fit into any moderately upscale community. Not 75 yards away is the office and the junk cars start there. Mrs. O might go for it but my Mrs. took one look and said "don't even think about it."
Watching your shows is like listening to classic AC/DC with front man Bon Scott. Puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart............ if you want blood...... you got it!!!!! 🙂 thanks for sharing your fabulous shows 🍻🍩☕️🥓🍨shawzbot nanu nanu.
Awesome as always!
Well done sir. Customer for life I hope. Thanks!
Awesome, as always, thanks brother!
You can legally own junk! It's called driving a Ford! LOL In all seriousness, I appreciate the way you look out for the customer's best interest and at the same time understand that cost is an issue. You seem to take a very realistic and reasonable approach from what I can see. This is both the sign of a good hearted person and a sure way to have plenty of loyal customers. Kudos!
If you want a good grease gun, Lucas makes a really nice one. I used it on semis, heavy equipment, and cars for about 6-7 years and it still works great. I got it at home depot for about $40.
Two in a shift. Best day at work ever.
Spooky_Ghost Bing Bing Bong
Wooooo! Part 2 already! I just adore the amount of attention, effort, & quality you put into your work. I know I've said this before, but I gotta say it again. Too rare to see this anymore!
Having trouble finding the hole.... yea, #guytroubles. Lol
Wondered who was going to notice it...lol
"Ford....Built like a moron." Thank you for that sir. Happy Friday. Lets rock this mother!
yet another great video ford engineering WOW
awesome job eric even though the workshop is a dangerous place you make it fun and intresting at the same time if i lived in the states i would defo bring my motor to you
I'll ways be a S.M.A. fan for this great stuff.again nice show.....
Lota parts! Well, we will see in part three (HEY! A rhyme!) how all turns out! Great tech tips how to deal with salt/corrosion. BIG NASTY helped.
You Da Man Eric. This time it didn"t take a compewker. Happy Saint Patty's day, and spring.
i have a 2012 fusion i just started replacing the rear shocks and wow what a mess, i could change the strut assembly in half the time , but it has been a great car
Great job Eric
Great videos. We'd love to see you explain the alignment process.
Great job again like always
Not even slacking the engine/gearbox mount to get the bolt out! That was lucky. I'll have to remember that one!
This video is a great learning experience for anyone fighting with this rusty and badly designed crap!
this guy goes the extra mile for his customers. I can tell you there ain't many mechanics out there like this guy and I am a mechanic myself.
I saw a place in Alaska where a older man was selling his property with about 75-150 (if not more) cars in his yard & the house & his shop, all for sale 1.45 million. He had several cars in his shop, rebuilt. But, YA, MY DREAM AS WELL
trick with grease guns is to store them with a can of brake clean as well as a roll of towels. that way when you go to use them, you'll be ready.
Thanks Eric! Needed this. Been snowed in for days and I'm starting to get cabin fever! I'm pretty sure "mushy" is a technical term ;)
You chose to be in this business yes, but from all your videos we have watched I haven't seen too many HONEST mechanics like you.
Entertaining and educational your good
It's easier to change control arms if you do both whilst you have the sub frame lowered great video's by the way really enjoy your channel
Very helpful video.
Fantastic video
out of all the years greasing things, never thought to make an adapter for the 90 and other grease fittings. then again I always try to put in angle zerks, so straight gun end fit.
South Main 2-fer! Nice!!
Great vid
I bought the Milwaukee 18V grease gun. It's fantastic.
Great idea lifting the engine!
by the way i got the astro light and i love it
great job smar.
What not creeper Fred? If Walmart was my only choice for auto repair I'd buy a horse. Thanks for the video. That tire was so thin I could see the air through it.
I just seen a video on the replacement of a water pump on a 3.5 Ecoboost Taurus, were you have to put the engine. I'll stick with my Mopars and Hondas.
Water pump on my 2011 f150 is a 1 hour job
Eric I see you use a pry bar to hold ball joint to install the locking nut. I find that first spinning on a new non-locking nut usually pulls in the taper. Then remove nut and install the lock nut.
I thought my dog had it made. Mrs O. Was cooking them steak for lunch.
Looks like the wife finally got proper kitchen lighting.
eric, i'd like to hear more about the how's and why's of wheel balancing.
Give credit where it's due - this guy and the mariner is all mazda!
got to just love ford , they some times do it great then you get that ONE, hidden bolt take the whole car apart to get it out .... lol .... been their done that .... been watching sma and a few other scope diagnostic ( believe your data )to up my game after 30 years of fun in the trenches .... been looking at several systems that include the ability to flash program as well scope diagnostic with .... can you do a video on what you got both pros and cons to each , would be a great benefit to all out there looking to take a step up in there game .... possible collaboration with others out there you know and see on regular basis .... just a thought ... thanks for the help you have been able to provide to those out there looking to up the game ..... my self included
I'm SMA LIFE and never been to ya shop
I go with Moog, these remind me of the mevotech suspension parts with the blue rubber. I had to warranty those parts literally a few months after install.
You have fixed the doorhandle.
with her feeding you like that, you should live forever.
“I can’t find the hole! Must be my first time” LOLLLLL😂😂😂😂
New SMA drinking game. drink every time Eric O. says "that's not the right size"
Took my steel rims into a guy to balance them for me (mounted the tires myself by hand) he said I did a great job and it only needed a small weight added…. too bad he did a shoddy job. watched him struggle with weights falling off, so I got closer to look at the can…. he was using spray lube! then to make them stick he used a die grinder to remove a huge patch of paint….. these were my winter rims, and we salt the roads too.
Those steaks looked good Eric!
I also like junk yards, eric o..since my first trip as a little boy..now a days there are only a few by me that will let u walk the lot...newsflash not everybody are thieves.. great video..ford alwsys eng the hard way. Take a lunch break and move on to next paying job..family 1st..have a great one..
Seriously love this channel I’m addicted. Thank you for your hard work to give us these videos
Great Great Great Video , i have never seen a video at your brothers shop would love to see it but this video was very interesting even if you where not a car guy and could you tell me about how long did that job take thanks and please keep up the good work and the videos coming .
I would have loved to see Mrs. O's face when you were saying you needed a junkyard.
That was the one thing that sucked when I had to do alignments when I worked at Goodyear. Our machine was a hunter that you had to compensate the heads by jacking all four wheels up and spinning the wheels while you did your head compensation. The new laser heads, you just roll the car forward till it beeps, then roll back until it beeps, then center the front wheels on the turn plates, done. Anyway, I'd get my compensation done, do my camber sweep, and find everything just a smidge off. I'd go to loosen the strut bolts and tie rods, everything's rusted solid 😒🙄 so, got to raise the car screw up the calibration, fight getting everything free, most often using a torch, then go thru the calibration again to make my settings. Alignments paid a hour flat rate, no matter how long or short it took you, and fighting getting the adjustment nuts and bolts loose was considered part of the alignment.
25:34 I gloooove that sound
I laughed out loud about you using that combination wrench. I was just thinking about why you were using such a long wrench
I came to scout the EARTHQUAKES. Looking to get some. They seem pretty strong.
Thank u...
You need a Pneumatic grease gun if your planning on buying one. They are nice to have.
Looks like they got together with vw lol my mom has a 2006 vw passat have to take apart a lot to get a damn bolt out .
Eric, can I suggest a video in which you teach a little about reading the wiring diagrams? I enjoy your electrical diagnosis videos the most but am having hard time understanding all the variables, shared grounds, shared power on paper.
top service at SMA
I was hoping to pick up some torque specs from this video. Looks like it guesstomont time !
The NAPA warranty for the tie rod is from Federal Mogul and Moog is a subsidiary, so it may be a Moog part.
I used to work at a shop that had an alignment rack. None of the shops we did alignments for ever got the adjustments loose or even sprayed them with pemetrating oil. Pissed me off. Everything seized up most of the time.
I did alignments for years too,the body shop guys were the worst.but there were 2 small shops that would prep things. The one at least sprayed things and the other would check/loosen everything. It was such a help and since it was shop rates I made less per job but they always went faster so I didnt mind.I know penetrating oil isnt Eric's favorite but when they'd soak stuff down and it had time to sit it really helped........I just couldnt understand why the other shops couldnt at least douche all the adjusters. It's not like they really had to do anything extra that took time or effort.I'm getting pissed thinking about it lol.
I call these a BMW style suspension, super common of on this design is any weakness in the lower arm bushing is a shimmy at 50 ish especially when braking, Audi are similar but not so bad due to the upper arms, jaguar go a step further by also having a bush at the outer end instead of a balljoint, they feel all kinds of loose when worn out!
Shiny paint on the old tie rod end outlasting the greased joint itself in the rust belt says a lot for the quality of replacement parts. Ever had the feeling you're putting a Band Aid on a severed leg?
That powder coating is tough.
QQ i agree but i think the MFG's use these items as wear parts these days. like wheel bearings. replace them ever two years.
When I was a kid, Ford used to have a TV commercial that said, "better ideas come from Ford". It had a lightbulb that would light up. Well in my thinking, the lights are on but nobody's home.
The legend of blaming the former employee lives on!
At 35:35 and 35:45 mins., it looks like both rear lower control arm jam nuts are not up against the tie rods. Is that normal?
Another set of detailed great videos btw, thanks again!
Hey Eric I thought the dog was the one who liked the red grease!!!!!
We get those grease adapters from Lisle
