  • Today we head to the Tunisian tourist resort town of Port El Kantaoui, just to the north of Sousse on Tunisia's Mediterranean coastline. Here we find the New Fly Café, which is home to a very special piece of Star Wars memorabilia: an original podracer engine from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The owner of the New Fly Café bought this original set piece from Mr Kamel Souilah's Star Wars shop down in Nefta. To hear the full story behind Mr Souilah's shop, check out the separate video we have on him, pinned in the comments!

My guess is that all of those engines were from Star Wars (aka Episode I aka The Phantom Menace). There were 18 pod racer engines in total that were built in England and shipped to Tunisia for filming. I think most were were built from wood, plaster, styrene, etc., but a few were adapted from existing plane engines. I'm definitely not an authority on pod racer engines, but you can get a few glimpses of them on location in this featurette from back in the day (nearly 30 years ago!!)...
