    Svend Nielsen: (from Facebook)
    On this year's trip to Norway from a couple of other motorcyclists, I was made aware that they had been listed as a car on their fergypay.
    Therefore, returning home after the trip, I then checked my account and quite rightly, all 12 crossings we were booked as a car, and I have regretted the misunderstanding to autopass and have today received the following answer:
    Feedback:
    A little unsure why this has happened. I will correct all the passes and what has been deducted too much will be refunded back to balance. I will forward this so that our developer can investigate and hopefully get it fixed so they will come in with the right rate in the future.

    Norway has over 120 different ferry routes spread all over the coastline from South to North. There is not much information about the routes, time of crossing or how much everything coast when you arrive the ferry dock even if the law says you responsible to the customer when it comes to give information about this for each route. A app on the phone or trough a webpage is not good enough. I hope this video can answer some of the many questions out there. And if you have any question that I have not covered in this video, please live them in the comments below. Cheers

      What about dogs on the ferry. We are planning to come from Croatia and we hear that 1) dogs can get on ferrys and must stay in the car or campervan, 2) if they are not vaccinated they can't go on the ferry? Who checks that if you know?

      @@tshansen Yes, and when I passed road told in Norway the fee was drawn direct from my connected account. No invoice as it will be if the EasyGo + box is not used. If you have that account and not use the box, the reg number on the plate will be registered and since my EasyGo account is connected to the plate number it works in the same way. Not sure if your box (if you have one) works in other countries, but the Danes are as far as I know those who have made the most functional contracts with other countrys road toll payment systems. Now when I have a lighter vehicle I don't need to use the box anymore (since it was for heavy vehicles) so I'm not sure if the Danish Bropass box for normal vehicles works in the same way.

    It hurts me as a swede to admit this since swedes and danes has tried to steal Norways thunder for such a long time: But vikings came orginally from Norway. This video proves it beyond any doubt. The fjords FORCED the vikings to make boats to be able to travel inside Norway crossing the hundreds of fjords in Norway. Sweden and Denmark are both without fjords - so there was no need to invent boats there. Your video just made me realize this fact.

Nice to learn that motorcyclists do not have to pay tolls in Norway, but getting an AutoPass for ferry payments ahead of a trip does not seem possible, at least for Americans with a +1 phone number. AutoPass says they can not send an SMS to a +1 phone number, so one can not register. No answers to repeated e-mails sent via their customer service web page. Hey, thanks for this informative video.
    I've been watching several videos about Ferries and Tolls in Norway, and I still have a silly question about the line-queuing (before the ferry).
    I've heard that the line numbers indicate the sequence in which cars board the ferry. (first every car in the 1st lane, then every car in the 2nd lane, etc.)
    If that's the case, are there any circumstances in which I should NOT queue in the 1st line, other than the line being full? (For example at 0:06; I'll also be traveling with a normal car under 6m.)

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  Před 5 měsíci

      If the dock is full of cars, you will follow the system like that. And let’s say row 1-3 goes on the ferry and line 4 is left behind, they start filling the ferry with line 4 next, and then 1 again. But in some cases they have own lanes for trucks, lorries and special service cars. so there can be a little bit confusion. if you travel with a car, just follow the rest of the que. My best tip.

The website of Autopass states "When creating a prepayment agreement, you can choose to order an AutoPASS ferry card. To get a discount on ferries that use the ferry card as a payment solution, you must have a ferry card. If you only travel with ferry connections that use a tag as a payment solution, you do not need to order a ferry card." in the FAQ. Confuses me!

      @@motorcycleadventuresNL Yeah, this confuse me a little as well... I think the autopass deal is stated around cars, not motorcycle. Because I don't have a card or a tag for my bike... it is just connected to my car deal. So every time I ride on a ferry they just take a picture of my licence plate. And this is how they do it on the ferry's with all motorcycles? As far as I know

    Do you ever tie down the motorcycle on the fjord ferries? I did it once on Lysefjorden sailing from Lysebotn to Forsand, but never seen anyone else doing it in Norway. I guess the water is always very still.

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  Před 2 lety +3

      That is a really good question, how could I miss that in the video? well.... yes and no! A few ferries in Norway travel in "open" sea, and therefor it is vice to tie down your bike. Like the one from Bodø to Moskenes or over the Sognefjord sometimes if the weather is really bad. There is no right or wrong, you just need to feel what is right for you. Like you say, most ferries in Norway are running inland so there is not often need to tie down the bike. Always leve it on the side stand and in first gear when parking on the ferry.

    • @Kurkess
      @Kurkess Před 2 lety +1

      I always bring straps. Never know when they might come in handy. The bikes often get parked in the side of the ferry or up front. When parked on the side I just strapped it to some fixed point on the rails of the ferry with my own strap. But as mentioned probably not necessary in most cases inland.

    What about walk-ons or pedestrians? We want to spend a few weeks going from the southern terminus of the ferry system and eventually reach Kirkenes and then catch a flight from there to our next stop. We are not planning to take a car, but will likely rent one during stops at larger towns if they are available. We would like to get off the ferry at a few towns on the way and spend a few days at each, then catch a following ferry to our next stop. Is this possible? If so, how do we start? Thanks and great video!

      @tshansen  Před 2 lety

      Hello DrZman...👏🏻
      Walk-ons or pedestrians are always first in line. The let on and off people first. You go on and off the ferry the same way as cars, but because of safety you will go first. if you are in doubt, just reach out to one of the guys waving cars in or out. These ferries normally goes from one dock to another... a to b and back again. If you want to take on of the catamaran you can jump of at some places and on again some days later. You just need to find out when the ferries or boats goes from the dock and you pay for each trip. It is quite easy and great system. Was that a answer to your question? please let me know if there is anything else I can answer for you. Cheers

Which ferry company would you recommend for a couple who wants to do what I described above: sleep on the ferry many nights, but get off at a village sometimes and spend a few days on land and catch a subsequent ferry. The ferry company we would use would have to have rooms we can rent and a cafeteria for eating. It's very confusing trying to make sense out of the websites of the companies.
