Just got a "used" Fenix 5X Plus...... still under Extended warranty.....got a Good price on it.......I only want the Maps, and Sensors. I have the money for the Fenix 6, but for $400, I think the 5xPlus will be perfect for me.
Great video, thanks. My 6X arrived today and I can confirm the quality is just as described, very nice. On a side note the 3rd party watch faces from the 5 series are currently not compatible with the 6 series, I suspect they will have to be recompiled to support the new features and screen size. Upshot is there's currently a limited number of additional watch faces and apps available.
Thanks for the review. I'm however skeptical to comparing the "screen clarity/brightness" between the two watches in the video as the 5x plus uses the saphire glass whereas the 6 uses gorilla glass. I think the gorilla glass is brighter in general.
Ian Thorslund that does have an impact. But the clarity is very apparent in reality. The main difference is the size of the screen, it’s not down to the brightness as this is controlled anyway from the backlight
More an operating system Upgrade than other things!!! Everything could be there in the Fenix 5X if Garmin give an upgrade OS! What's is good of the 6x is the clarity of the screen who is better than 5x series... But for me it is not enough to make an upgrade! I hope that the "plus" version will get the phone call and receiving call option! Nice watch for those who have not the fenix 5x version and want an Upgrade!
I was a little dubious about the change to Gorilla glass but the clarity and lack of reflections is very noticeable on the video. Only time will tell whether the durability is there.
Heart rate is being iffy needs to get iron out with an updated Gps, on the other hand, is been pretty good on my neck of the woods almost on the dot locks in GPS a lot quicker than its predecessor, before an activity. But heart rate is out of wack!

Sorry if this has been asked before but I wonder to what extent the better readability is due to the lack of sapphire glass on the model you show compared to the Fenix 5x plus. I had a standard 5 plus and it was much clearer compared to the titanium sapphire model I got subsequently. Any thoughts ?

Excellent comparison. One question? Can you navigate in the same fashion as with the Garmin Foretrex 401? That is, you have a screen with the heading and the plus and minus indicators to keep you on course? I have the Garmin Descent MK I which is like a Fenix and a dive computer all in one, and I have navigated with it in the woods and on a boat in a very large lake. But I have not seen the precision indicator used as on the Garmin Foretrex 401.

I own fenix 5x ...i have smartphone connection issues i cant recieve notifications ...so be aware before spending lot of money for these devices...nowadays there are lot of sports watches which are very good ...and btw you cant change the battery so its not worth the money for max of 4-5 years

They have very recently dropped OS map support from the 5X+ hopefully it will return for the 6 because currently only the ancient Epix supports os maps. Apple Watch and Casio support them through ViewRanger so Garmin missing a feature compared to the competition

5 x you can do all new battery mood manually, so bad of garmin to not do up grades for 5x when new fenix 6 had came to market ( like what apple do ) .. So this few extra features are worthless
I wouldnt say "You can see alot more when it comes to maps" . Sure the 6 has a smaller bezel but its not that big of a difference. The more space for data fields is nice though. Garmin could easily add the widgets and a few of the UI features to the 5 series but chooses not to. Makes you not want to upgrade when they treat their customers who spend $600 on a watch.
Having used the Fenix 5x Plus for mapping whilst hiking, it is a big deal. Yes Garmin could potentially add more data fields, but it would be so much smaller But yes the other UI stuff and widgets is a no brainer
I recently purchased the Vivoactive 4 but unfortunately, I sent it back due to the 2 vibration notification when receiving a text or a phone call. Garmin informed me that it will only vibrat 2-3 times due to trying to safe battery life. I would like to have the option for it to vibrate 2 or 20 times or 5 to 15 seconds. I discovered the issue when I was working out, missed very important calls due to the 2 fast vibration which only last 1 second. I was going to order the Fenix 6, but they said that it's program to do the same way. Have you had this issue and if you have how can it be fixes. For the cost of the smartwatches I should dictate how many seconds or how many times it should vibrate, not Garmin. Please let me know your thoughts, thank you.
You are comparing a Fenix 5 Sapphire (which is darker cause of the saphire) vs a Fenix 6 gorilla Glass (which lets more light through) this isn't a fair comparison because the glass one will let more light through
I would stay far away from the Gorilla glass and go with the Sapphire 6X. The scratches on the Gorilla will not outweigh the Solar benefit. The Solar benefit is pretty small after reading the charts anyway.

I copied the locations waypoints that are in the file “Locations” on Fenix 3 at the file “Locations “ file at Fenix 6. But when I go on the watch I do not find them in the saved location place .
i like the watch. big jump from 5 series but...first day or day 1 I smacked the door lock with my wrist couldnt believe the damage just from this 1 hit leaving 2-3 smaller scratches on screen also missing the 6-7mm paint on a ring. didnt have that kinda demage on series 3 and 5 together. always making a jokes with guys who bought other smart wathes saving the money telling them garmin is the boss. otherwise everything goes well, im spendidng a lot of time outdoors privat including my job which is similar or very close to my hobi. screen is great i love it thats a big improvement, data goes faster and overall feel is better and battery life is arround 2 weeks which is good. lil bit more hardware protection for this money the answer is yes, would i change this watch for another answer is no bcuz i love it. this is my personal opinion. thank you.
Hi Buddy, is the Fenix 6 compatible with Polar speed/cadence sensors? I have been using a Polar GPS watch on my racing bike for several years. In March this year, Polar stopped supporting the online software which allowed me to upload my runs and then see, second by second, my pulse, speed, cadence as well as other stuff on a map of my ridden route. Polar made me an offer of 15% off to buy a new watch. I won't be buying Polar to protest on their arrogance. Am thing of the watch shown here, would appreciate your feedback. Thanks 🤘

As someone sitting with both a gorilla and a sapphire fenix 6, the sapphire is a lot more easy to read off of for me.

the glass will have zero impact on the screen clarity
