Ran to gate cop standing there with guy watching the door I said "can we get back in?" they said "get back in there" Went back in saw the last few minutes fantastic finish great memory.

The Riot! My Dad and I jumped around the living room like loons. The south is football country, and fans longed for a playoff or winning season from 1966 to '78, which doesn't sound like much these days, but it was a big deal, believe me.

I despise the eagles (could you tell) but I think for BOTH teams these were by far their best uniforms.

Falcons' Owner was a big Georgia Bulldog fan and patterned the red and black unis with the grey pants, after UGA's football team.

      @tommythomason6187 Před 3 lety +1

@Jane Gold I agree. I remember a pre-game show, whereby they asked players from different teams who had the best unis in 1990. Most of them liked the Falcons' black. I liked them, but they should have kept the red, striped helmets.

Mike Kenn #78 played in the NFL from 1978-1994. He spent his entire career with the Atlanta Falcons after being drafted with the No. 13 pick in the 1978 draft out of Michigan. He started every one of the 251 games he played in over his career. No one has more starting seasons as a tackle in the history of the game. He was a 5 time Pro Bowler and named a first-team All Pro 3 times.
Here is what some NFL greats have to say...
    Chris Doleman
"He was the prototype at the time. He moved well, great technique. He had great success against some great players. Hall of Famer? Yes, in my opinion."
    Art Shell
When asked about the Hall of Fame and Mike Kenn Shell said, "Does he fit with that group? You're damned right he does.
"He's a future 'Hall' guy, sure. If the folks who do the voting have any sense about them, he'll walk right in when it's his time. He's a master at some forgotten skills, a guy who still pays attention to the detail stuff that's foreign to a lot of linemen nowadays.''

FYI: The kicker for the Falcons was from South Philly and was a bar owner. He beat the eagles in 1980 at the Vet on a last second field goal. LOL. This GREAT Falcons era 1978-1980 could NOT beat the Cowboys and the eagles could NOT beat this Falcons team

Glad that old Falcons like TE, Jim Mitchell (#86), and outside LB, Greg Brezina, (#50,) got to be in the playoffs and actually win one. Both came on board @1968/69, and had also played on the 9-5, 1973 team.
Philly's defense - big and imposing, and it was the Eagles' game to win. Injuries to their kickers ruined it for them.
Falcons had abandoned their record-setting, "Grits Blitz", from 1977, but Jerry Glanville defenses always were fast pursuing and very aggressive.
The , "D", had a somewhat notorious reputation and was booed wherever they played...San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles - and in Dallas, in the coming Divisional Playoff, when Roger Staubach was knocked cold.

The Eagles probably would've been 11-5 in 1978 if they had a decent kicker. And they would've won this game.
They used 4 kickers this season, all terrible. The 2nd one Nick Mike-Mayer was "o.k." but he got hurt, leg injury on a kickoff LOL. Vermeil brought in Mike Michel from UCLA as kicker #4.
One of Vermeil's best quotes was after this game about Michel, after missing two chip-shot FG's and an extra point-----"Well.............he made them all in practice".

  • @JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnly

Fun fact: the Falcons wouldn’t win another outdoor playoff game after this until 2002!

The next week the Falcons went to Texas Stadium and my Cowboys jump out to a lead and then Falcons LB Pennywell delivers a massive cheapshot to Roger and he lay prone on the field, it was REALLY scary...I mean very scary. Dann White led the Cowboys back to bear the Falcons. Also my high school in Philly wore these same Falcons uniforms.

Before my time, but there's a great story on E-A-G-L-E-S the Movie (story of the 2004 Eagles season) where Mount Airy Phil shares how he was watching this game with some people in a hotel and threw the TV out of the window when the Eagles kicker missed the field goal😳

OMG, did Mike Michel suck. Vermeil lost this game, he should of signed a real kicker. Michel had never even attempted a FG prior to the two he missed in this game. He was 8-11 on the season with PAT's and he missed one in this game. That's bad coaching, right there.

Okay I have this full game on dvd. As a Cowboys fan in Philly...THIS IS AMAZING!!! HOnestly, this and the 1980 Falcons team which were better than this 78 team could have won the Super Bowl but my Cowboys took care of them twice.. What I don't get it the LOSER EAGLES brought their fucking cheerleaders with them, how fucking lame. Matt Ryan is nowhere near as good as Bartkwowski was...OMG Julio JOnes is a JOKE compared to Jenkins and Jackson. GREAT ending
