I remember when you would get about 20 ghosts, so you'd immediately go and find a bunch of peasants or goblins to slaughter with them. Good times hahaha
I made a map with a “prison” complex next to a barrow mounds. The prison consisted of legions of peasants, goblins, dwarves, rogues which I used to farm souls with the ghosts. The number of ghosts you get resets after around 25k.
The reason it resets is because the number of creatures is stored as a 16-bit number (aka it is bounded by [-32768; 32767]), so if you get more than 32767 ghosts it wraps around to a negative number.
I never forget when me and my brother played this and we kept losing to ghosts and kept reloading the save. Then we decided to delete all our peasents before starting the fight and won first try. Those peasents were so fucking bad in this game
Even in 'King's Bounty' (also by JVC & early NWC), the ghosts were OP... *HOWEVER*... the skill of leadership affected how well you could keep 'control' over your own troops... When the ghosts grew TOO large too quickly... they went 'OoC' (out of control), lol!! 😳😳😳 Basically, permanently berserk unless you killed enough to reestablish control. What an amazingly complex yet AWESOME series of games.
Ghosts are actually very weak against magic like holy spells and paralyze. If your enemy has resurrect, holy and paralyze spells you'll likely lose even with 1000 ghosts or more. Only the anti magic artefact which is extremely rare makes them literally unbeatable. One ghost and an anti magic artefact you already won no matter on what map. It's like god mode. But you have to set it with map editor. I never found this artefact by accident.
Nonsense. If you have 50 Spell Power (in H2, that's almost unobtainable by normal means), you will resurrect 50*50=2500HP=8.3 titans, which is very few. Holy Shout will do 50*20=1000dmg=50 ghosts (per stack). It is a very weak spell. Even Lightning Bolt (50*25=1250dmg=62.5 ghosts) is better. In H3 there would be ways to counter such menacing stacks, the most prominent one being Force Field, as well as tons of mana using Intelligence skill. Getting 1K+ mana in H3 is not a challenge in large maps, but getting even 400 mana (40 knowledge) in H2 (without Artesian Spring) is pretty difficult. EDIT: I see you mentioned paralyze, but paralyze (and blind) doesn't work on Ghosts, or any other undead creature.
@@Jonathan-qi9rh Ye it was blind not paralyze, my mistake. I lost before with 4000 ghosts. The difference was the opponent had a strong hero with lots of experience. He had titans and dragons. Constantly did resurect spell. And that was it for my hero. But then I put the anti magic artefact and win even with fewer ghosts.
@@Lightmaker5 How many dragons and titans? Ghosts are pretty flimsy by themselves. With 4000 ghosts you can't really go against more than 100 titans, unless you have a super strong might hero. I suspect Resurrect didn't matter much, but rather his/her attack and defense skills, in comparison to yours. Did you have better stats when you acquire the Sphere of Negation?
@@Jonathan-qi9rh The hero was preset with a lot of experience. I think he had 50 dragons and some titans. He also used a spell to steal my ghosts. His hitpoints were simply lot higher. In most maps sure you will win with only 1 ghost. But there was one map I lost my hero. If my hero had lots of experience I would've won. Ghosts only make you invincible with this anti magic artifact. Magic is useless anyway for ghosts since you have to breed them to get more.
I acutally had one weird game (surf and turf) when i could recruit ghosts but opponent would be near and stronger and I couldnt finf anything to feed ghosts on. Now i think i should have surrendered and escaped with the army

@@firekin5624 это минус 8 только (19 защита призраков против 15 атаки титанов), у призрака с ЖК 7,2-10,8 (против 6-9);(не округляю, по скольку численность эту запятую съест)
@@drevniysamurai тоже вариант.)) кстати, можно было бы еще отряд призраков разделить на 2 отряда, и наложить общее замедление на титанов. Драконами не ходить, ибо на них не действует воскрешение. Тогда 4 отряда титанов закрыты призраками, а 5й стреляет, но на нем сосредоточены наши титаны и друиды, которых можно воскрешать.)
@@XBOCT_MAMOHTA делить, к несчастью не вариант, стак из 9к убил ~270 титанов, то есть с 2х ударов падает, 2 по ~135 - два отряда по 3 удара, и потерь больше просто...то есть проще держать один стак призраков...а насчёт драконов....опять же смысл их держать в тылу в данном случае, если у игрока образовался такой стак призраков в качестве мейнстака....то есть драконов проще и выгоднее вести в бой и не жалеть их(но это относительно случай особый, поскольку генераторов карт нет, а призраки обычно не водятся у игроков в принципе...так что всё вышесказанное мнение чисто субъективное)
I think that you could take 1 Black Dragon for 1st turn an use Mass Curse cuz Titans have 20-30 damage. Then Haste >> Stoneskin. If you have Shield than Shiled >> Stoneskin >> Haste
In vanilla Heroes 2 you can't, except when you attack ghosts and they decide to join your army (a hero with Diplomacy helps). In the Price of Loyalty expansion or Heroes 2 Gold you can recruit ghosts in barrow mounds on the adventure map.
What you don't realize is how easy it is to reach 3000 ghosts. Everything they kill adds to their numbers. All you have to do is attack a couple packs of peasants or halflings and your ghost population explodes. Honestly it's completely broken and unbalanced.
