Ditya Prasad I beg to differ here, and a comment like can only be made by true and partial die hard fan of an artist.
How can you even make a comparison like this...he has some qualities which Rafi Saab also dint have and I can prove by naming the songs and Rafi Saab is Rafi Saab.
Why would you wana even say smthing like this...Even respect your emotion and understand where you are coming from.

You must be born between 80 to 90 ... that's y....you saying....if you want an authentic classical touch then listen Rafi's saheb only....

The one who sounds More musical than Musical Instruments Only one who perfectly justifies the songs of Legendary Rafi & Legendary Kishore onstage. The one who defines Versatility: Throw anything at him (be it bhajans, patriotic numbers, ghazals, romantic songs, qawwalis, party numbers) and he will sing it with ease! The one who sang 1 Song in incredible 54 different Voices! The musical Scientist The only one to Inherit Rafi like Haraktein: A true successor to the Best Singer The one who NEVER misses a note, Lord Of Chords The one who perfectly mimics, does great Parody, talks Wise, Is Humble, is Righteous The one & only SONU NIGAM: A talent Of Astronomical Proportions! Carl, the rapid variations you are liking are called 'Harkat' (her-cut) it's a form of Indian classical music singing. What these pop-film singers apply in their singing is the tip of the iceberg. Whenever you find Indian music palatable, you must listen to Indian classical vocalist legends like Bhimsen Joshi, Kishori Amonkar. their vocal abilities will blow you away.

    • @coermech9620
      @coermech9620 Před 5 lety +16

Swapnil Raje you said it precisely, not even scratch the surface. I mean classical singers would shred this. Kumar Gandharva, mukul shivputra and countless others.
It's a pity we only read mozart and Beethoven as the geniuses but never we hear about Gandharva who not so in the past, in the 60s was actually 'creating' ragas.

    • @5schat
      @5schat Před 5 lety +24

True, these are just the tip of the ice-berg but don't forget that singers like Sonu Nigam are also classically trained for years. So they do have the classical background to understand and play with their songs. It's not easy for anybody to just start doing harkats. A good singer knows how to control it and when it is needed.

Sir here is the English translation of the lyrics of the song hope you like it ...
    Abhi mujh mein kahin,
    baaki thodi si hai zindagi
    Jagi dhadkan nayi,
jaana zinda hoon main to abhi
    Kuch aisi lagan
    is lamhe mein hai
    Yeh lamha kahaan tha mera
Ab hai saamne, ise chhoo loon zara
Mar jaaun ya jee loon zara
    Khushiyaan choom loon
    Ya ro loon zara
Mar jaaun ya jee loon zara
    Still, somewhere inside me,
there is a little life remaining..
    A new heartbeat came up,
I got to know that I am still alive..
    Some such tenacity
    is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
    should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..
    Ho abhi mujh mein kahin,
    baaki thodi si hai zindagi
    Still somewhere inside me,
there is a little life remaining..
Ho.. dhoop mein jalte hue tann ko,
    chhaya ped ki mil gayi
    Roothe bachche ki hansi jaise,
    phuslaane se phir khil gayi
Kuch aisa hi ab mehsoos dil ko ho raha hai
Barson ke puraane zakhmon pe marham laga sa hai
Kuch aisa reham is lamhe mein hai
    Ye lamha kahaan tha mera
Ab hai saamne, ise chhoo loon zara
Mar jaaun ya jee loon zara
    Khushiyan choom loon
    Ya ro loon zara
Mar jaaun ya jee loon zara
(as if) the body burning down in the sun
got the shade of a tree,
like the smile of an angry kid
came back on a little cajoling..
something like that is what my heart is feeling now,
on the years old wounds, there is some balm applied
some such mercy is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
    should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..
    Dor se tooti patang jaisi,
    thi yeh zindagani meri
Aaj hoon kal ho mera na ho
    Har din thi kahaani meri
Ek bandhan naya peechhe se ab mujhko bulaaye
Aane wale kal ki kyun fikar mujhko sataa jaaye
Ik aisi chubhan, is lamhe mein hai
    Yeh lamha kahaan tha mera
Ab hai saamne, isse chhoo loon zara
Marr jaaun ya jee loon zara
    Khushiyaan choom loon
    Ya ro loon zara
Marr jaaun ya jee loon zara..
like a kite with broken string
    was this life of mine,
today I'm there, whether tomorrow takes place (for me) or not (is not known),
was my story everyday.. (he was unsure of how long he'd live)
now a new bond calls me from behind,
why does a worry for tomorrow trouble me,
such a prickle is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
    should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..

Hey Carl....Greetings from India...Couple of things that I wanted to mention....The vocal waves u heard at the end of each phrase is called vocal vibrato....Similar to a guitar vibrato....This technique is accomplished by controlling how we breath while holding a single note.....Another thing u noticed is the way he clubbed a lot of notes from the scale or raaga in a single bar is referred to as Murkia in Hindustani Classical Music....Similar to what we here from a western classical singer.
Sonu Nigam is a living legend who has sung many memorable songs...Check out the youtube playlist and u will know how versatile he is.

    English lyrics of this song.
    Still, somewhere inside me,
there is a little life remaining..
    A new heartbeat came up,
I got to know that I am still alive..
    Some such tenacity
    is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
    should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..
    Still somewhere inside me,
there is a little life remaining..
(as if) the body burning down in the sun
got the shade of a tree,
like the smile of an angry kid
came back on a little cajoling..
something like that is what my heart is feeling now,
on the years old wounds, there is some balm applied
some such mercy is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
    should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..
like a kite with broken string
    was this life of mine,
today I'm there, whether tomorrow takes place (for me) or not (is not known),
was my story everyday..

    1. Shankar Mahadevan 's Breathless. The song is an epic, Shankar sir seemingly sang it in one single breath.
    2. Kaushiki Chakraborty' s performance, she is one of the most celebrated classical singers worldwide. You need to react to pure Indian classical music, the pitch shift, the voice control will completely blow your mind. It's much more advanced that what you have reacted yet.
