      I'm happy that I wasn't the only one that didn't know about him until he passed. He was a fantastic story teller and love his guitar style. Listen to him now all of the time.

    Dude, you are in-cred-i-ble! I've been playing John Prine's songs since 1975, incorrectly. I never had any training on how to play that finger style - I just made up my own style. It's gotten me this far, but it's nice to have someone finally show me how to play that finger style correctly. Many thanks!

    Thanks, I subscribed! Merle Travis was great. He came up with this basic style using a thumb and index finger. Amazing. Takes great rhythm. You are a very good instructor.

      I live in Nova Scotia now and went to Saint Thomas . I bought a Boucher last Jan. and it's the best guitar I've ever owned@@BrianBakerGuitarStudio ! And I have a D28. J.P. Cormier is our guitar idol and lives 15 minutes from me.

    Switched to the Fred Kelly picks for a try on your rec, but I don't really find a huge difference with the Dunlops, which are fine and a lot cheaper.

    do you play G string when you are doing the C chord pattern.
    It seems that you are only adding notes from high e and B string?

      Hi Steve. I always start “Thats the way the world goes round” like this. I try to combine the melodies of that song with “In Spite of Ourselves” to creat an intro. Hopefully this helps.

      Yes absolutely. You could use the Travis picking style in many John Prine songs.

      I've watched about 10 different "how to pick like jp" videos, and none of them actually pick the way he did (thumb & index finger only). I even scrolled through comments, and yours is the first and only one that mentions his actual picking style. Kudos to you, and thank you!

    How long does it take you before you started plucking like that as you do?

      I think it’s different for everyone. I started out by learning Chet Atkins music when I was young. Once you can train your thumb to play bass patterns automatically, things really start to open up.

Anyhow, I know someone had a Travis pick I can play dust in the wind, landslide, Julia and dear prudence by the Beatles also some Gordon Lightfoot Travispicking thanks for the video.

      No finger picks but always a thumb pick. Sometimes players will grow out their nails or put fake ones on.
