HUGE Vette guy here. Got my 1st Vette in 2002 (1992 C4 Black Rose Metallic). Current proud owner or. 1972 and 2004 Z06. C5 was such a huge step for the Vette and my favorite generation!
I've loved my dad's C5 ever since he first pulled up to my house in it and now it's in my garage. :)
I bought my C5 back in November, aside from some maintenance items that I need to get done, it's been absolutely amazing

Owned my 2004 Z06 since 2010 and it's a great, reliable, fun car with really low maintenance costs. Best bang for the buck and runs with stock 996 Turbo, Gallardo and 360's

The best Corvette is the one you own, lol :-) I personally love the C6 Z06 and specifically Atomic Orange. So I own one. But my bud loves the style of the C5 over any other gen. So that's what he'll own one day. C5 was a game changer, and a wonderful ride even in 2022. I do agree the C5 is a beautiful car.
I sold my C6Z06 and got into a base C5... now I have left over money to buy a boat lol

I think c5 is the best corvette overall. Everything is just right with it. You don't need a fancy interior to feel engaged.

Have to agree with that, had a 89 c4, 99 c5 and now an 01z. Have dealt with all the minor issues (steering lock, headlight motors, etc), and those issues easily taken care of. The 01z had 35k miles(50k now) when I got it 4 years ago, traded the 99 and 3k in cash for it, still feel like I stole it. Was offered 25k for it a couple weeks ago. The C5 is 2nd behind the C2 in terms of beautiful machines, but like the C8 (3rd), both out of my league financially.
The C5 was a wonderful vehicle! That was my baby for 7 years. If I could get another one like that model in great condition, I would buy it in a heart beat!

Oh, hell, YES! My first experience driving a Corvette was in my brother-in-law's "daily driver" C5, and it was LOVE AT FIRST BURNOUT! When I got home, I started shopping for Corvettes, and I found and bought my 2001 "Pewter Bullet" at the end January 2021. It's my "weekend warrior" and my Summer Road-Tripper, and I've driven it three times across the USA, through 43 of the Lower 48 states, and I'm planning to drive through the last five states this summer. Frankly, the Watermelons (Green outside, Commie Red inside) can have it when they pry my cold dead hands off the steering wheel!
I have had my 04 C5 for several years and it is always a fun, dependable driver with 55k miles. No issues other than it's not quite as quick as my 12 Grand Sport but well worth the original purchase price.
I love my black C5 50th anniversary (2003). I'm retired now so it is my "grocery getter". If I need to haul my grandkids, I fire up my black 96 Impala SS. Love it too!

C4 gets undeserved hate. That car was incredible at the time. 7 international and worldwide records, held the 24 hour lane speed record for over 2 decades. It performs very well!
I've owned 60+ cars (so far) over the years and the one car I kept for the longest was a C4 (10 years).
I got me a C5 Targa in 2019. She was all stock and I had some "minor" modifications done meanwhile: 500+hp cam-kit, custom intake, re-enforced TC and TM. custom programming, Pfadt-Racing suspension, custom headers, 4-barrel 3" custom exhaust, metal cats, big brakes all around, 19" wheels, etc.. All together spme 60k, not including the purchase price of the vehicle. She's brutal, mean, loud and a true beauty!
Due to the insane amount I paid for all the mods, we're practically married for life...
All the lightweighting effort on the C5Z was worth it in the end as it had one of the fastest Ring times and lap times of any production car at the time. "When the C5 Corvette Z06 clocked its 7:56 time, it was a pretty big deal. GM claimed it was the first production car to break past the eight-minute mark."

Great video👍I've had my 1998 C5 automatic coupe with 95k+ miles for 13 yrs. I've kept it mostly stock. I love it...but I've had I think about all of the common issues with the C5 generation. So of course I think about selling her, every time a new problem waves it hand! Lol
But I just can't part with her. I just prefer the look of the C5. Don't get me wrong, I've been Vette crazy since I was a 13 yr. old kid.
But the C5 just has that look about it... like no other. So even with the new issues I've just been faced with, the past 2 wks. I still plan to keep her❣
But if anyone is a new C5 owner or looking at buying a C5. My comment isn't to scare you from it. There are so many video's like this one. So we can find out issues others have experienced and share with eachother. Plus, lots of people can do the work themselves. Unfortunately, I can't do a lot of those things. I have had my share of shops in my area, not knowing how to work on them!
But I look forward to seeing more C5 content because I'm still learning after 13 yrs. 😁👍

Understand about not being able to let the c5 go. Had mine for 22 years. It is the one. Like a 69 Camaro v8.
I have a 2000 c5 with a tsp 383 stroker kit, a&a v3 supercharger on 7# and a water/meth kit. I daily it most of the week and it absolutely walks 99% of the cars I have run. all for under 30k, ya cant beat it imo. Not to mention its a fuckin gorgeous car.
Have had my 03Z for 2 years now. Moving on to the C6Z, but this has been one heck of a car considering it's age. Still relevant and remembering they were unicorns in my town when they first came out.
I've had 3, totally regret setting my last one. Might have been the nice to C5 in the country.. Was an 04 Z06

Love my 98 red six speed C5 with 80,000 miles. The six speed is worth it in my opinion! And the engine is so good, I can literally put it around town never going over 1500 RPM, usually cruising it between 900 and 1200 and get 20 miles per gallon in town, and I’ve never gotten less than 31 MPG on the highway ever in 10 years! The six speed is a blast!
I have a white '98 coupe with 55K miles, but I have the auto 'cause I'm lazy. Love the car. But everybody that pulls up next to me at a stoplight seems to think I want to race them😂. Sometimes I oblige, but I'm not really looking to dog out the car and tires all the time. How much quicker off the line is a manual than the auto, anybody know?
I own a 03 auto. I am missing my left leg so standards not an option. So I made major upgrades to the drive line. It's procharged and built from the crank up. Many upgrades. 800
Opps 800+ hp. A Shelby and Hell Cat killer. The funnest vehicle I have ever owned.

lol i have the c5 as a first car i bought it for 7k its the auto ofc 170k miles and i got it to learn about working on cars and have a cool project. all the issues you said ive repaired. except the abs thank god

I have owned my 99 since 2000. Best co efficient of drag and lightest modern Corvette. Had steering lock problem fixed and finally got the VATS problem fixed. Still love it and won't sell it ever.

'96 C4 with the LT4 is on my wish list, as well as a ZR1. So is the 2003 C5 Z06. Until then, I'll just have to enjoy my 08 C6 Z51.

I currently have a C4 Corvette that is suffering from incompetent repairs and I am looking to buy a C5. I wonder whether it is easier to get decent service on this style.
I've had my '02 ZO6 for six years last July ('22). Set up the suspension like an exotic, and my only complaint-the Nurburgring isn't outside my front door ¿`_
I got my black 03 c5 z06 last year with 70,000 miles. Love it! Did have the starter fail 3 days after driving it home and just replaced one of the front wheel bearings that went bad. Now I’m listening for other noise changes 😅. How long due the clutches last? Anybody? Thanks
Clutch should last a long time in stock power but definitely upgrade if you plan on modding.

I own both a C5 and a C7. My C5 is very respectable relative to the C7 and the bloodline is very much palpable. My C5 is a 98 Z-51 manual which I've owned since new and my C7 is a 2019 Grand Sport manual I just bought last week with 4500 miles on it.
1:42 WRONG! 1995 Corvette ZR-1 made 405hp making that the most horsepower a Corvette had seen until the Z06 in 2006.
Looking at used C5’s currently as the prices are pretty good and still many low mileage cars out there. Would rather a C6 Z51 but quite a bit more dollars. I heard do not buys on 97, 98, & 99’s but some really good buys there. Thoughts?

There are out there! I mean, there is an aftermarket for the Vettes, so I do not think that is the reason. Perhaps it is because everyone wants a new electric car instead? I am sure there is some sort of reason

Owned a C5 for 22 years. Can't sell it.
Not to be negative but just putting my two cents in from my personal experience. Bought a 2000 c5 Corvette coupe in December 2022 and so far only drove it a couple of times locally. Battery kept dying even though the date on the battery is August 2022 so just 4 months old. Took it to a Chevy dealership and they sold me another battery and that one died. In addition to this the drive belt kept coming off and I'm told Chevy no longer makes any of these parts. Buyer beware!
Rounded , buetiful, sleek, it's just a great looking car, but 10 to 15 grand? Not even for a high mileage one you will need at least 25 grand to get one under40 thousand miles.

It pushed nothing close to a big block from the 68, & 69 L88 or the ZL1 engine, or an L71 tri power, even an L36 with headers and a cam.
Please research the corvette history and learn that a C5 was a nice step up. But by no means is the ultimate corvette.
The L88 has 430~ hp 🤔 could be wrong, but that’s what I see

Pull key.. Wait 10 seconds.. and call me before you buy one of these. They have their issues. Chevy did the C5 a major solid favor by waiting for 2008 to release the LS3. This gave us some time to stay on top of the line up as C5 drivers. I would say now, if you have a choice, the C6 2008 and higher is a better value. You get 436 horses stock, and an easier upgrade path with less bugs.
You really only have to wait like 2 seconds and it's a $20 fix anyways. There are a lot of annoying electrical bugs but they're all super easy and super cheap to fix.
I also think anyone that expects a 25 year old car to be perfect is out of their mind
@@ShellShock794 My 2004Z was electric bug-free, no CLB needed. If I got a fresh one, best and only mod needed is Nitto NT555 tires out back. The rear would come loose so often when I got it into power. For street driving, it was sort of "all or nothing" from that engine, and that gets annoying. So often I would get on it from a roll, and nothing would happen, or I would be about to put somebody away, and the computer would just shut off the juice. That's why I think the C6 is so much better. Enough power to spool up even if you're not in the perfect gear. I think the C5Z with a blower would be perfect. Headers don't help, unless you just like the sound. Leave the shifter mods to the fools; too.. One thing that happens, the A/C condensor drain clogs, and this causes the floor boards to flood, where the computers are; so keep that clear. Make sure you hear dripping of water after you park if you use the A/C.

Nah man you must just be really unlucky and or bought one that wasn't well maintained. It is a known fact that they have a decent bit of common issues, but all of them are cheap and easy fixes. And most of the problems have already been fixed by previous owners over the past 20+ years.

Yeah 20 year old car. Just throw heads cam and headers ans you’re smoking a lot of cars on the street
@@Ls_corvette Exactly, with these mods (+ CAI), you will be pushing 450hp and tq at least, and the car only weighs 3200lb. So it will beat just short of every stock car other than some newer exotics. (and the hp has increased A TON for the average car over the past 20+ years)

C8 with a 3.3 sec 0-60 and 490HP for 60k vs z06 with 405hp and a 4sec 0-60 for 20k that could can then modify with the 40k you saved not buying a c8 🤷♂️
