"The Bear" (2013)

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Grigori Smirnov has spent the last week going door to door to every one of his debtors to demand what they owe him. Unfortunately, he is having no luck. Desperate, he arrives at the last of his scheduled stops - the Popov house. Although Mr Popov passed away almost a year ago, Smirnov is hoping to get some joy from his widow. But his blunt manner does not impress her, and she refuses to pay him. With the hapless butler Luka caught in the middle, a standoff ensues - with neither the stubborn, vulgar Smirnov, nor the haughty, superficial Mrs Popov willing to concede an inch to each other.
David Meadows' film version of Anton Chekhov's one-act vaudeville, using his own rhyming verse adaptation of the text, features Adam T. Perkins as Smirnov, Summer Williams as Mrs Popov, and Kym Bidstrup as Luka. Filmed in the Roundhouse Theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
