An equinox is commonly regarded as the instant of time when the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun. This occurs twice each year - around 20-21 March and 22-23 September.
Solstice occurs when the Sun's position is either at the extreme north which is Tropic of Cancer or at the extreme south which is the Tropic of Capricorn.
