In this episode of the David’s Been Here web show, David takes viewers through the beautiful lands of Meteora, Greece. Situated in Thessaly, Meteora lies in the heart of Greece. Meteora literally translates into 'suspended in the air’. Here David shows and tells us what to see and do in Meteora, Greece.
Meteora has two main towns, Kastraki village and the town of Kalabaka, which is home to the majority of hotels, restaurants, and shops. A must-do for anyone is a guided half-day bus tour. You’ll get to experience the unique landscapes of Meteora's stone forest. Even from the bus there are incredible vistas. You’ll stop at the Great Meteoran Monastery, which is the oldest, tallest, and largest monastery here. Admission to the monastery is 3 euros.
David’s bus tour also stops by one of the most ancient sites in Greece, Theopetra Prehistoric Cave. Since excavations began in the 80’s several important finds have been made. Among them include human bones, stone tools and human footprints dating back 135,000 years!
Meteora also has a lot in store for adventure travelers. One of the main activities is hiking through the Stone Forest. When you go on your hike, your guide will give you history lessons and legends along the way. If you’re willing to do a short but challenging climb, you’ll be rewarded with picturesque views from Dragon’s Cave.
Adrenaline junkies: Meteora has you covered. If you want to bring the adventure up a notch, try scramble hiking. This type of hike is similar to rock climbing but requires less equipment and the use of your hands to pull yourself up the ropes. You’ll be rewarded with epic views of Kalabaka. Traditional rock climbing is also an option for experienced and newbie climbers alike.
And if you didn't know Meteora has wineries! Loudas Winery is a family-run boutique winery 5 minutes from Kalabaka. They’ve been open since 2006 and specialize in both Greek and international varieties. Come to taste some of Meteora’s most popular wines and buy gifts for your family and friends back home. If you’re there during the September harvest season you’ll get to see the winemaking process first hand, and possibly get a tour from the owner himself.
If you’re wondering how to limit what to see and do in Meteora, just know this: You CAN’T miss a sunset tour. There are two popular viewpoints where groups gather to see the sunset. It is truly a sunset you won’t soon forget. It’s also a great time to photograph the dramatic rock formations that Meteora is known for.
If you thought you knew Greece, think again.

Really amazing work..Beautiful country.Thank you !
Oh wow, that cave is incredible! Meteora looks so beautiful, we definitely need to visit one day.
+Goats On The Road yes you need to! Let me know if your decide to go and I can connect you with my friends out there
Since people start to discover Greece:
point 2: Vikos Gorge (the world's deepest Gorge in relation to its width, or to put it differently the deepest that is not very wide and is less than 1.5 miles?(kilometres?) wide. So different structure from Grand Canyon.
point 3: Samaria gorge in Crete
bonus point: do mountain climbing in Karpathos
(*also place with great sponge divers (some of the best sponges in the world were from there and the guy that had the world record in holding his breath underwater was from there (he didn't do it for sport he would do it for work, and actually wouldn't even do it in relaxed position but while swimming which makes it much harder) Many of the spongedivers died or had health issues (the diseases of sponge divers we say)).
Karpathos is great for sponge climbing and has some strange slimving structures some forming O shape with the added effect of having all these climbing formations by the sea
Great video. Thank you on these helpful informations.
Thanks a lot 😍😍😍
Very nice!
Very nice..thanks. Wow this was posted 3 years ago
SO BEAUTIFUL OMG
yes it is!!
I was there many times! Maybe 100!
Hi David, congratulations on the making of a superb video on Meteora........My wife and i were in Greece from Melbourne in 2010, and our only regret is not going there. We hope to make another trip in the near future though.Speaking of beautiful sunsets in Greece, Santorini is quite famous for its sunsets as well, have you visited there/ Best Regards.
Daaaaaamn, epic bro! Great video. I visited Meteora on my first trip abroad, when I went to Europe when I was 18. It definitely deserves a revisit on my next trip to Greece. Looks like you packed in a lot in your time there. So where are you now, since your videos are usually delayed quite a bit? Greetings from Peru.
+Gabriel Traveler Thanks Gabriel! Yea we were their for five full days. You really need time here to do all this epic stuff. I am in Miami, my home. Yea videos are always delayed because we wait till after the trip to get back to the studio and edit. No need to work on videos while on the trip because then you take away from enjoying it.

Right on, sounds good. I do things differently because I edit as I travel. But I'm traveling solo so that's different than if you're traveling with someone. I have lots of spare time to kill so the editing gives me something relaxing to do in the evenings when I'm hanging out in my room. Greece was actually where I was intending to go this fall (been there twice before, but wanted to get some great video footage this time). But I decided on S. America for now because it's cheaper. Hope to make it back to Greece next summer. Did you do some exploring of the islands as well?
It's on my "bucket list" for things to do.
0:22 can someone please tell me where is that view / how is that rock called?
Are there buses going down to Kalabaka after sunset?
I'm flying to Greece tomorrow with my drone. I'm worried it will get confiscated, did you have any problems?
wat zou dit een fraaie video kunnen zijn zonder al die mensen, en wat langer kijken naar wat wèl de moeite waard is...
Whats up with this Kilometer language. Means nothing to me. If you are talking km then you need to say the miles equivalent.
The majority of countries around the world use the km metric system.. Get with the flow.. The US are not the center of the world
@Nicos Frangeskou ok, will do
DO NOT SHUT OUT TO LAUD THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE PRIMITIVE WHO LIVES IN THE CAVE AGE...
@@siokos123 yea right!! The US doesn't do anything for the free world.
@@siokos123 Actually there are only 3 countries in the world that don't use the metric system
