Best design Benchmade has in the past year. Still won’t pay the butterfly tax though
Agreed!
That's hilarious never heard it called the butterfly tax😂
Love that term haha!
Not a good model at all. It is too small, and needs to ditch the sheepsfoot. This knife needs a drop or clip point.
@@20alroco man…it almost sounds like you’re talking about something that already exists…the Bugout! 🤣 get real. Embrace variety.
They are nice looking color combos. Love to see a bigger version.
Thats pretty much how I feel about it.
Yeah it’s awesome but needs a 3.25 or 3.5 version.
I bought one a week ago in military green and at first I was like I paid too much because it was too small , I didn’t read the specs on it, but I’ve grown to love it for EDC! Beautiful knife!
this one looks nice .. and aluminium instead of plastic is welcomed. If I wanted this blade shape and small size Id probably still pick Kansept Main Street with Anodized Titanium for $130 or Kizer Mini Critical either with 3V and micarta or version in Titanium for 100 bucks ..
I hope they make a larger one and don't raise the price that much. Regarding Benchmade Quality Control I can only speak for ME, but I handle quite a few in a year as I sharpen knives for people. And I often get knives sent straight from the dealers to me, and I have seen some really messed up knives from them (all made in 2022-23). But I don't know, maybe Benchmade sends all their messed up knives to non US distributors. The knives I have seen should have never passed QC, varying from the FRN being all scuffed up and frayed, to crooked pivots. But as I said I can only speak for myself and what I experienced. Their CF, G10, and Aluminum scaled models seem to have much better QC as I very rarely see issues on them compared to FRN models.
They're going to make a larger version! It will only cost you 1 million USD. What a steal! Thanks benchmade👍
My CF elite bugout I purchased straight from BHQ got so bad after six months, I threw it away and swore off omega springs for life 😂
I didn’t really like how the scales felt so it never got carried, as I planned to put ti scales on it eventually. So, it sat in my pelican case with other knives in my collection for six months. I only ever couch flipped it. Both omega springs broke from fidget use only, and the coated s30v blade rusted for some reason. I have a sneaking suspicion that the action was tuned incorrectly and the springs were under too much tension, because they both snapped at the same time, in the closed position. Not realizing they had snapped, I went to grab the knife and the blade just flopped open 😂
Needless to say, that combined with the oxidized coating, caused me to just go “wtf” and I threw it in the trash. Never again.
Ive noticed the 'stickyness' in new coated bechmades is the ramp on the back of the blade and the lock bar which are also coated. Once you wear these away down to the steel it is smooth as can be. But also make sure if you send your knife into benchmade for service that you ask them not to replace the lockbar
Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I've had problems with their QC on several knives in the past year, including one that came from the custom shop. We're talking stripped screws from the custom shop, poor action, crazy amounts of blade play way beyond what's normal for the brand, way too much loctite, thumb studs rounding out even when using the proper tools for disassembly.
The knives were 2 Bugouts (one of which was a custom), a Griptillian, a Mini Osborne.
I will give them a shout out on the quality of the Adamas and Super Freek. Both of those were amazing and have zero issues.
I still love all these knives, but I'm not convinced their QC is up to par.
When Benchmade gets it right, they're hard to beat, but it's super frustrating to have issues at this price point.
I think "goofy" is what got me to 300k 😎
With regard to the "Butterfly Tax" I understand more where they're coming from with pricing. USA made knives. They pay their people very, very well, by all accounts. Premium materials. Original designs. Also, there's a certain public perception that they need to maintain as a premium manufacturer. Sig firearms does the same thing. They won't allow their retailers to sell their products under a certain amount or their contract to sell will be canceled. I understand that.. That being said... For me, what's important is how much value I can get for my money. Which means Chinese made high value brands like CJRB, Civivi, etc. I won't say anyone is stupid for buying Benchmade. That's makes sense to them. It's their money. But don't lord it over the people who buy lower priced knives because that's what makes sense to them.
They should have better fit and finish standards for the prices.
I've had many Q/C issues with BM over the years and I don't understand why.
I'm okay with legalized pot, I just wish they'd wait till after work to get baked.
That's fair, IMHO, especially for the prices.
Great designs.
Too many apprentice level results.
I've reassembled at least a dozen factory BMs to a standard the freakin factory should have met.
Pisses me off.
I expect factory edges to need work from any maker, but the builds should be repeatably uniform.
Repeatability was forged into my soul during my boatbuilding apprenticeship.
Wish others were more focused on it.
The knife looks super great.
I'd love to have one with a blade that is properly tempered.
BM cpm m4 sure is softer than it should be.
It's not hard to do something correctly if you know how to.
I dunno.
Hoping to see a review of the No Immunity, which has no blade at all!
lol
And a bargain at only $1200 😂
I've been using this knife at work and been in love! Worth every penny! Love mine in green, they don't make a yellow 😂
Tip for buying Benchmade products: REI often has sales around holiday seasons that allow you to take 20% off any one item. This coupled with your member dividend can really take the bite out of the butterfly tax.
And they have the full immunity in stock, its only the green one though.
You still can find better knives made in the USA all year round at half the cost then what they charge its disgusting
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU - BENCHMADE REALLY NEEDS TO PRODUCE AN 'XL VERSION' OF THE FULL IMMUNITY! If it was a 3.5 to 4 inch blade with a full 4-finger grasp handle - that would be an awesome EDC blade! I love that they made it from CPM-M4 as well as the beautiful aluminum handle scales with diamond texture, so I would hope they would keep this. I was thinking they could call the XL version:
"BENCHMADE FULL IMMUNITY - BOOSTER SHOT"! (Maybe even an XXL version and call it "Double-Boosted"!)
Great point about quality control at Benchmade. I don't even know how many Benchmades I have - at least 30+ for sure - I have NEVER had any problems with the quality of ANY of my Benchmades (going back to when Griptilian was a new thing and the OG Adamas in D2), and I have NEVER had an Omega Spring break! I'm not saying it never happens, but every knife I have ever gotten from Benchmade has excellent fit & finish out of the box. Any company is going to have some occasional duds that accidently get through the QC or have a part that fails. Also several good points about the pricing.
LOL your comments about, "Why not just get a utility knife?" 😂🤣😅🤣 I was literally and heartily LOL when you said, "Fell out of an idiot hole in the sky" and "Shut up - Nobody cares about your Milwaukee Fastback", and "Or Husky, whatever, you know, budget jar at Home Depot"🤣😂😅🤣
It looks like a great edc size, and I actually really like the blade shape.
Blade shape is money to my eyes as well.
I have a Full Immunity. I understood the size before I ordered it. I own a ruler.
It's a great knife if you're skillful with a 2.5" blade. An average folder has a 3" blade, and a folder designed for someone's tactile fantasy can have up to a 4" blade. A 2,5" blade is enough for daily tasks, and the blade shape of the Full Immunity lends itself to opening packages and mail, and cutting down on a forgiving surface. Along eith that, it's a classy little beast, and built to exacting standards.
I don't mind the price, but I did get a good deal from an eBay seller with 1000s of five star reviews, so I don't pay $300.00 or even $270.00. I'd rather have a Benchmade at a premium price than support the flooded market of Chinese folders.
Is it my imagination, or are Benchmade knives getting smaller and more expensive?
You've never taken a bm 940 apart have you ? 8 years strong on using body screws that protrude so deep that they fall short of microns fron touching the blade and they refuse to change screws. 17 cent upgrade for a 200 dollar knife. Just too much. But yeah it's in our heads
Got this one in crater blue. With it being that small, have knicked the palm of my hand with it. Quality of the knife was great and I am enjoying it!
I love my blue FI, it's almost primed for middle finger flicks. I got it for $205, I'm in a 3" carry state. Benchmade really nailed the design and machining, it's really gorgeous when you handle it. I know everyone hates on the butterfly tax, maybe I just got lucky this time and dodged it?
yea glad to hear that the worst part of the benchmade knives I own is the price, I work for an outdoors store so we get discounts on knives, only paid less than 120 for any of my benchmades so they are great knives for me
Idk man, normally I'm hearing out your takes, but the BM QC issues arent unfounded claims. I bought a new Osborne a couple months ago, and even adjusting the pivot to the point of losing action, theres still noticeable amount of side to side blade play. Other crossbar style locking knives i own from other cheaper companies do not have this issue.
I love the look of that knife and really wish they had one with a 3.5 cutting edge! Such a good looking knife!
Just got mine for my birthday. I adjusted the pivot ever so slightly and been flicking it a lot. I can confirm, it does drop shut and fires out fast
I have had about a dozen Benchmades from 2002 to now, and I have never had any Q.C. issues with any of them. The edges on them have been very good with only one exception on a Griptillian (The edge was even; it just was not very sharp. It was fixed easily with a few passes on a ceramic rod). Maybe I just got lucky.
My wife got me the blue one for Christmas. It’s a sweet little knife and perfect for the watch pocket. It’ll be rotating with my dragonfly and scallion. But out of those 3 the FI is the best looking, highest quality, and best blade steel.
In my personal experience with buying half a dozen Benchmade knives over the last three years, Benchmade still falls short more often than not on their out of the box quality control for axis lock stick, grit, edge grind, blade centering, etc. That being said, they are also more than happy to put in the effort to make it right if you’re willing to take the time to send it in. Is that acceptable considering the price? That’s entirely up to personal opinion.
You can pick up a PM2 in S45VN and a Civi Qubit in Damascus and still have enough money for a nice lunch for that price tag… Benchmade price tags are getting ridiculous for what they are offering.
The issue with the price is the Bailout, m4 with milled aluminum scales, has a $300 MSRP, and is substantially bigger. Same company, same materials, diff sizes and same price. That doesn't make any sense to me.
My only real issue with the knife is when I pulled the lock bar back and flicked my wrist to shut it the force of pushing the handle into my palm allowed the blade tip to graze my palm and cut me when I shut it. None of my other benchmades have done this. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a lock that keeps my fingers out of the way of the knife if I still have to worry about it cutting me when closing.
I really really really like this one. Idk if I need another knife. Probably not but I very much dig the shit out of this design.
been curious on your perspective. I purchased this couple weeks ago, been carrying it daily. Its small, but I really like it.
I absolutely love Benchmade knives. In my opinion by far the absolute best pocket knives available anywhere in the world. I currently have 15 Benchmade knives. One more on the way. I have never had a single issue or problem with any of my 15 Benchmade’s. I do see a lot of reviews about bad quality control. However I have never experienced this issue. I bought my first griptilian 14 years ago. Back when 154CM was the standard steel. Before S30V. I live in the PNW, my favorite steel is M4. I use blue lube, and have not experienced any issues with corrosion. It’s very, very possible that this itty-bitty will be my next precious.
Another great video.
Thanks.
Bought a brand new FS Adamas in cruwear recently that has lock rock and it's really disappointing, their QC can't be all that amazing. I've also got a 533 that won't function unless the pivot is loose enough to wiggle. The only decent BM I've got is the KC exclusive 20cv Griptilian. I live a 5 minute drive from their factory in Oregon City, OR but find it hard to carry one daily if I'm honest.
That knife is a real beauty and practical too. In a lot environments, you would get a better reception pulling out an 8” you know what than an 8” folding knife or even a 7” folder. At my job, I got comments on a Ladybug and keychain SAK.
BTW, it would have been good to compare the Full Immunity to knives like a Ladybug, Dragonfly, or Mini Sheepdog.
I would be down with this knife it was $100 cheaper. So many better options at that price point.
I like it, but it’s small for me. I have carried a Crooked River for years now, an I love Benchmade quality.
If they make a Full Immunity with the exact specs as the Mini Bugout! I’m sold. Held it at my local shop that I could get for $230. Felt nice! Looks amazing imo! But a little too small for my personal liking. I daily a Mini Taggedout OD Green G10. Stunning 🔥👌🏼
Mini taggedout is my “worker knife”
Full immunity would be my collector piece, mail/box opener, and out knife. When I’m not working I’d rock it. If I am? Mini Taggedout
Love my bailout with M4. This is a tempting alternative given it’s smaller and very attractive alternative
Now I want an automatic folding battle axe flamethrower 🤘
That is a cool knife! It’s too small for my taste but if it were 35-40% larger, it would be an absolute winner.
This was my latest purchase, only the Auto version. The small size makes me almost forget that I'm even carrying a knife at all, but I do enjoy it. Slightly bigger would've been nice.
As most people, my only problem I have with Benchmade is the pricing they keep putting out. Not so much with this, but the new gold class, limited-edition Bailout with titanium scales and M4 is $600. A regular Bailout with aluminum scales and M4 is $270. They want $330 for titanium scales... a 122% price increase...
I'd say if the scales were exactly the same, but titanium it would be worth it, but if that was the case BM would be charging over $400.
I have experience with exactly 1 Benchmade knife, my Bugout. I bought it a few months ago from Midway. It arrived not particularly sharp, with an off center blade. I tore it down, cleaned it, very carefully polished the washers with Simichrome, and lightly lubed them with KPL. Reassembled with brass Meton Boss scales, and the blade is still off center, and only marginally sharp, and the action is only marginally better. For the money they charge for this knife, zero of these problems should exist. My $50 Vosteed Racoon is a better knife. For 340% more money, shouldnt the Bugout be at least as good?
Hope they come out with the super immunity, I just don't see myself buying a 2" blade at that price point. Bailout would be a Better option in my opinion, basically same materials
I LOVED this review. First video of yours I’ve seen and I love how “no bullshit” you were. Not just spouting the same stuff everyone says but actually challenging groupthink and giving an honest perspective.
I hope they make the micarta with d2 version for $350.
My Ritter Hogue Mini RSK with Magnacut and carbon fiber scales cost $199 in a better size. This looks better, but is still too small, even if the price dropped to $200
I like it still, small blades are my shit, love smaller blades especially when they are high quality for no reason.. spyderco and Benchmade are great because you can customize them so much. Their aluminum feels very premium to me.. i want a ad20.5 ti swap eventually too
Really is a nice looking knife! If they would have given it a 3" blade I would have picked up the full auto immunity, just a tad to small for me.
Personally, I have never had a bad Benchmade knife. They feel great to handle, deploy and use.
In Europe we are receiving a lot of poor quality BM especially the blade grind issues.
Just bought one today and love it!
I bought that exact knife. It was beautiful and well put together. It was just too small. I had to return it. If they made a bigger one I would consider it. However the price is over the top.
That's a great put-down! "Shut up, nobody cares about your Milwaukee Fastback."
The Benchmade would die if I used it like my fastback.
Dang Prince... You're a real badass
What do you do for a living?
@@PrinceAsmodeus I'm a professional ego shatterer
I work in an industrial warehouse, cutting cardboard, strapping, and metal branding all day,... My Milwaukee Fastback would DIE if i used it like my Benchmade Super Freek.
I have heard that Benchmade supposedly pays their employees well which would definitely up the price. But I can’t say that all the rest of the USA companies pay their employees terribly which is why they have lower prices; but all I know is I like the overall design and I can get on board with most of their designs but I just need a little bit of a price dip. Not 150 dollars but drop overall pricing by 40 to 50 bucks and I’ll be all in
Love benchmades. Best blade profiles out there imo. I have a bunch but my bailout edc is my fav. Looking forward to mail call for my full immunity.
Looks amazing. Wish it was bigger.
Just bought my first Benchmade. It’s the Taggedout in CF/Magnacut. Should be here tomorrow. This Full Immunity really may be number 2 because I just love everything about it. In my opinion Benchmade should keep up the quarterly price hikes because everything just seems so underpriced in the current catalog.
don’t think i’ve heard benchmade’s pricing described as underpriced in the last 5 years, the narrows for 500 is pretty much objectively insane, this knife is slightly less insane but still seems pricy for what you’re getting
underpriced? wtf?
Love the blade shap but it is unfortunately a little to small for me ☹️
I like small knives, but even I want this one a little bigger. Just enough to make that sharpening choil a finger choil. Thankfully, many other makers have thought of exactly that, I have have a ton of choices.
You basically hit the peter griffen voice with the benchmade quality control rant and accent you did, lol
Awesome review man, thanks for keeping things real and in perspective 👍
Ill hold out for the $700 XL
i have been waiting for this foreverrr it feels like. benchmade must have really slowed down or something because it feels like this and the cool new shootouts were teased so long ago. great video, hope to pick one of these up eventually!
I like that you always compare the featured knife size to other knives that we can relate to. I will second that Benchmade Warranty.
Yes MC, I too failed to use the few brain cells I have to read specs. Bought a $280 UTX-70 and all the way up until I opened the box thought it was a midsize knife. (Insert losing price is right music) never again have I skipped over specs!!
GREAT LOOKING KNIFE! Having said that...waaaaay too small to justify the price. I am with you. Give me at leat a 3" blade and i'm sold! Great content as always MC!
The Lil Native would’ve been a great comparison knife for the Full Immunity
Just no. I guess in terms of size yeah...
I got a 940 about a month ago and I was in love then two weeks later my springs snapped which was kinda whatever so i got them fixed but now my blade wont stay centered so now all the enjoyment from the knife is kinda gone and I dont feel confident about the brand as a whole.
A larger model of this knife would be a no brainer for me. I’m a fan of smaller knives, but this is just a little too small for my taste.
I live on the coast of Florida and I still love me some M4 😭😭😭
I saw this in a local shop and was also surprised with its size. I like it a lot, though!
Would love one but I'm in Texas. We would get a citation for carrying something that small.
I see ppl use lanyards as a makeshift 4th finger grip by wrapping their pinky around it above the knot lol NGL it does work when I tried but not worth rocking tassels on my knives
I've had tons of QC issues with BM
Mine became fallshut after a few days. II find that this is typically the case for coated blades. I personally love miine. Easy 5th pocket, super light compact carry. As for first knives - my first "good knife" after a 2002 Kershaw designed by Ken Onion, was a Benchmade Gold Class (my life had changed since 2002), and I have a handful of customs more expensive, but typically buy in the $250-800 range (so, in the higher end, Demkos, Hinderers, the Reate and Bestech made self published knives, Koenigs, etc...) I am not bragging, just saying tha as MC sys, all paths are different. When I bought the Gold Class, my idea] was I wanted something really nice, andthat it would be one and done. But of course, I fell down the rabbit hole, like everyone else. Have a great day everyone. Be happy. Be open. Don't judge others.
I totally agree. I've noticed the people who shame me for working out are fat and lazy, I can only assume the people who bitch that we buy nicer knives are poor and lazy. That's the nature of underachievers. They hate on anyone who makes them feel "less than" even tho they are the only people comparing.
“iTs ToO eXpEnSiVe!!!1”
EVERYTHING IS TOO EXPENSIVE NOWADAYS, WERE STRUGGLING OUT HERE.
Design is great and what not but I agree, it’s too much money for what it is. The Bailout M4 is basically the exact same knife with a different shape and bigger for the same price. It’s a great knife, just needs to be cheaper.
I really love this knife. I just can’t. Socom for the win for a few bucks more. Speaking of socom. I’d like a mini version!
I can’t agree more! Thanks for sharing bud!
What about the name "immunity" whether full, auto or partial versions and them putting the C19 virus image on the show side pivot screw? Nice touch and good knife, expensive...YES, but i just had to get one to try. the blue one is very pretty! Good review. I pre-ordered for $230, still high but a little more tolerable. i guess you got a better price if you pre-ordered.
Love the colour of the handles!
Benchmade so how much is it?? About $5,000?
Benchmade needs a 4-inch blue class knife. This is a huge hole in the lineup. Adamas is just too much in the pocket. Crooked River has a round handle and is for people who love classic knives. Need a 4-inch, bugout-style knife at 3 oz. and .11 blade stock with a spear or sheepsfoot and a spydie hole option like the grip sheepsfoot.
I absolutely love the aesthetic of this knife but I absolutely hate the price tag also even as a small knife enjoyer I would prefer to carry a larger one of these. Benchmade seems a little off their rocker on prices in comparison to whats available but hey we apparently buy enough of these things to keep them in buisness. Even if the orice was a little higher If this was Titanium scales and construction and scaled up to a 3.5 inch blade I probably would own my very first Benchmade but alas.
If I want a wharncliffe axis lock I’d get a hogue deka for half the price (oh wait, i have one!)
Can you use the Civivi Elementum as a size comparison knife? It's kindof the modern "average" knife.
If they made a normal/"full" sized version of this, it would probably be one of my favorite knives ever. Too bad they designed such a cool knife, yet decided to make it for small-sized hands only.
I would go for the mini penguin as a great budget alternative
How about same blade 4 finger handle 🤔
Love the blade shape and materials, don't love the size and price tag.
Cool Knife.. its a little expensive for a non titanium but at least it's not out of this world like the Narrow.. other than that Nice knife...
OK... there's a reason Benchmade can charge more and get away with it, and that's because people in the non-knife community think "Benchmade is THE BEST!!!!". And if a wife offers to buy hubby something special for his birthday, he might say "I've always wanted a Benchmade..." and boom, the premium price is paid. Hey if Benchmade is in that position then you can't blame them for doing that, business is business (De Beers diamonds for example). I happen to buy Benchmades at REI when they have 20% off events, and I apply whatever dividend I have at the time, I usually get them for free, I picked up the Immunity in green during the May event this year and my final cost was $38. I have ALL of the Osborne permutations for example, I only paid the De Beers price for a couple of them (the DLC version with Aluminum scales, I found new old stock at a local shop and paid too much, but was HAPPY about it!). And yes I have the CF version and yes I got that one for free.
People are not mad about the soze... The price on the other hand ... Damn.
I'd look through the comments. Size is absolutely an issue for many
They should make a 4 finger version in magnacut
Yeah I have to agree it's just to small for my hand needs to be bigger for sure
It is too expensive indeed. But nobody forces me to buy it. ;) I went for the Kizer Mini Critical (V4).
I think it’s a great looker!!
That's a good looking little knife
This can be had for 150 bnib from a reputable vendor
I had to subscribe after this video, it was fricken hilarious! XDDD
SpongeBob SquarePants would not be carrying an M4 blade.
As long as you're not trying to mortal and pestle a brick into powder with your blade.
I'm dead! 🤣🤣🤣
Great video, cant afford this, but if I could Id get it, big fan of smaller knives (small hands)
