    I have collected and worked on phonographs over 50 years! I really enjoy your videos, and learn a new trick from time to time! Thank you SINCERELY!

    Hi I just came about a Edison BC-34 SM-6041
    It working as it should, but the the needle on the reproducer seems to be worn down, can this be replaced? I don’t know anything about it but I know the needle part is worn down. I’ve watched your videos as far as rebuilding but nothing on the needle. If you could give me advice, or maybe you could restore it for me or lead me in the right direction?
    I would appreciate any input on this
    Thanks Rick

      It sounds like you may need a new diamond stylus, it does not use a needle. I recommend Wyatt Markus and his phone number is 585-224-5453.

    My A250 has the first style DD reproducer and it was easier to service. Interesting video.

    What size punch do you use? The pin is so tiny I have trouble finding something small enough. Please advise, and thank you very much for the wonderfully useful information you have given me already!

    I just to mine apart and it seemed to have a gasket on top and on the bottom. So there only should be a gasket on top?

    • @dewaynehigh3188
      @dewaynehigh3188 Před rokem

      Or I guess i say, both sides

    • @1974hurt
      @1974hurt  Před rokem

      No, there is one on the top, then the mica, and then another gasket on the bottom, the metal retaining ring, and then the screw in part. Originally they had the rubber gasket and then a paper gasket on top, but the paper gasket I have found attracts moisture, so you don’t need that.

      @@1974hurt so there are 2 gaskets, one on top and one on bottom. Are they the same gasket, or different?

    • @1974hurt
      @1974hurt  Před rokem +1

      @@dewaynehigh3188 they are identical gaskets. Put a gasket in, then insert the diaphragm, then put a gasket, then insert the metal ring, and then screw in the screw ring. Make sure the diaphragm does not touch the inside edge of the reproducer.

    Thanks for your videos. They are very helpful. I have some questions maybe you can answer. I have an Edison Diamond Disc player with a reproducer that I want to rebuild. I have rebuilt Victor reproducers before but this is my first Edison. Your videos are very helpful. I have been having a problems finding a replacement diaphragm. Where would I look for that. Also, I tested the stylus as you suggested and I think that it may not be good. Are replacement styluses available. Thanks

    I have watched a number of your videos as I work on an Edison Fireside Phonograph, which came from my wife's grandparents. The videos are great and very helpful. I am assessing the reproducer and wondering how to determine if the needle is worn out or still OK. It seems to put a lot of drag on the cylinder. I took a photo of the tip and it seems rounded. At the moment I can only turn the cylinder by hand and that doesn't allow me to properly test the reproducer although it makes recognizable sound.

      What horn do you have?

    • @LyneisFilm
      @LyneisFilm Před 3 lety

      @@1974hurt Since then I have made a horn out of construction paper about 15 inches in length and with an 8 inch opening. Also I have a temporary motor drive. The sound volume is OK, but only some words and phrases are understandable. I am thinking either the stylus or the reproducer is at fault. I have 13 Blue Amberols so it is not the cylinders.

      Lead screw engagement May need to be set, the tracking. I have videos on how to set the tracking. Try that first, then move to reproducer rebuild.

    Hi, could you please share how you got the stylus pin out? Thank you! I'm having lots of trouble with mine.

    • @1974hurt
      @1974hurt  Před 4 lety

      Nate Otto : get a small punch and a hammer. Put the punch on the end of the stylus pin and tap the with the hammer. Grab it with needle nose pliers and it should pull out.
