Are Disney Parks Loungefly Bags Worth It? + Tips to Get Them 50% Off on Shop Disney

  • Loungefly backpacks have become an extremely popular staple at the Disney Parks, but they are also an extremely expensive. For a long time, I didn't own any Loungefly bags for that reason, but I figured out ways to save up to and over 50% on Disney Parks Loungefly backpacks on ShopDisney. I do not at all think Loungefly bags are worth the $75-90 they are sold for in the Parks. I do though, think they are definitely worth the $40 you can get them for if you're savvy with deals. My top tips are: utilize the savings and discounts you can get with a Disney Visa Card, sign up for email updates from Shop Disney to catch flash sales, and wait to purchase any seasonal bags until the end of the season when they're heavily marked down on sale.

*Let me know what you think about the Disney Parks Loungefly backpacks! Would you pay $90 retail for one of these bags?* I think these backpacks should have a retail of around $40, which is around what I got all of these bags for. *EDIT 12/23, this morning Shop Disney now has the Santa Mickey backpack on sale for $22.50!!!* Jokes on me for thinking I got a good deal on this one 🙃

I honestly think the retail price is fine. It puts them in the price range of a kanken bag which is about $70 for a mini. I plan to buy one in the parks with an AP discount tomorrow. Though my willingness to do so is relative to my income. When I was in college I might have felt differently.
Honestly, I wouldn't want to buy a bag that would retail at $40 they would have to reduce the quality. I've worked in the garment industry for about 20 years and often there is a reason why things are at the price point they are at. It's not just Disney greed since it is a 3rd party manufacturer making them. In general things the last few years clothing prices have dropped to the unsustainable level.
Now it's the Dooney and Burkes that are the real rip off in terms of quality for your dollar. It only feels like it's worth more because of the name and limited quantity but making less of something doesn't necessarily mean it's made better.

I think having fewer pockets is a bonus. In the early days I had a “security guard” dump my credit cards, id, and other valuables because he was convinced he was going to find something in some tiny little pocket. Spoiler, he found nothing. It wasn’t a secret dimension, just a small zip pocket. So bags the gate check people are familiar with is honestly something to consider when making your decision.

I recently purchased 2 Loungefly backpacks on our last trip. I do think that they are very overpriced in the Parks, but I don’t totally regret my decision to pay retail (less the Disney Visa discount). On these particular backpacks it was worth it to me to be able to pick one with a pattern placement that I liked. However on backpacks where it’s not a factor, I totally agree that Shop Disney (with stacked discounts) is the way to go. I picked up the Santa Mickey backpack for only $5 (got it down to $39 with discounts and then used my Rewards $). Thank you for making this very informative video because I don’t think that a lot of people realize they can get a better deal on these bags...well done! 👏

So I find this bag to be incredibly useful when used in conjunction with my fiance's full sized backpack. He carries the water bottles and rain jackets (WDW is our "home" park so lots of rain) and I use my small bag for things we access more often or don't want to get squished (snacks, park maps, portable battery, sunscreen, etc.). It is also the perfect bag for putting sunglasses and ears in before getting on the ride and quickly retrieving when getting off the ride. I love my bag but would 100% not collect them. I am in love with the one that I have.

I’ve been collecting loungefly bags for 2-3 years. I have over 40 of them. If you wait for a sale, there’s a chance they could sell out before trying to get a discount.
Also, I don’t mind paying full price for them. It’s the one thing I treat myself with and they double as decoration around my room, much like some people collect the ears.

What a great video! What I've learned the last couple of years, is that Disney tiers their pricing based on opportunity. Items in the parks will always be the most expensive, but sometimes will be discounted if not selling well, think of the spirit jars for Haunted Mansion. Disney changes designs so frequently, they are bound to have surplus inventory they need to sell online, through the Character Warehouses or even showing up in Disney Stores, sometimes on sale, sometimes not. If you see it in the parks and you really want it for your trip, you are more likely to pick it up and pay extra. If you can wait, ShopDisney is a great option, especially when using D23 membership discounts and paying attention to sales. A lot of the more expensive style brands have a higher margin, so Disney can mark them down more deeply and still make money.

I’m a vacationer who isn’t local but I use it as a park bag. It’s always worked for us, but we don’t have kids and we always go back to the room at least once a day. I’ve also never paid full retail price for one. I think it works for young adults like myself who go yearly and know the parks well, but carry a minimal amount to the parks.

  • @Syaryde
    @Syaryde Pƙed 4 lety +7

I never paid full price for them. My sister used to work at Disney so during the holidays I would use her 40% off discount and then now I just wait for sales before I buy any. Me personally I find the bags very functional and when I go to the parks I don’t carry much anyways. The side pockets I mostly use for my chapstick and hairpins. I fit everything I need to fit in it with plenty of space left. Now if you’re a vacationer and or with your kids this definitely is not the bag for you for park use.

Disney is actually hoping you do use these as park bags, that's why they are smaller and only have one big pocket, the size limits what you can bring making you buy more food and stuff like that at the park making them more money and the pocket is nice for Security checks as there is only one zlipper to unzip and look in for the big pocket, saving them time.

  • @noakantor4754
    @noakantor4754 Pƙed 4 lety +8

Some of the Loungefly bags do have pockets inside. I have two non-park bags and they do have an extra pocket inside. Also, from someone who uses my bags daily, I think although they do seem quite small (which made me doubtful about them at first), they do have quite a lot of room and fit a lot of essentials. The park ones are more expensive, so I do think the regular Loungefly bags are more worth it.

  • @TempuraSkrimps

how much backspace do you need though? unless you're a mom bringing all kinds of extra things for your children, i don't see why you need a bag any bigger than an LF. i do agree with you though that some of them are ridiculously expensive. i have only bought 3 of my bags at full price, but it was because i really wanted them. as for the side pocket comments, these bags are supposed to be like purses, adding stretchy side pockets would ruin their design. and if you have a clip on your water bottle you could just clip it to the bottom of your backpack strap. i do that when i'm at disney. these bags do have inside zipper pockets but it depends on which one you get. as you seen not all have them. overall they are worth it. just get them (as you said) discounted, as they are not real leather and not worth $70-90.

I agree that they need to have more pockets or organization. I tried using a felt organizer I purchased on Amazon. It didn’t work well as the organizer pockets were too tight in that small backpack, and it is too deep to only use the bottom, wasted space at the top. I appreciate the character designs, the materials, and the nice zippers. I have two favorites that I like to carry. The other ones I don’t feel like I need, as they aren’t practical for daily life for me. I don’t like the on and off of backpacks while trying to get my items. It's great you did this video! They marked down both the Christmas backpacks to $37.50 this past week and even though I had already bought the Santa one discounted when it was still $90 and then returned it, I had to buy it again because at the $30 price point (which is what it was when I combined it with a 20% off offer I had) it was too low to pass up! My problem with that bag and the reason why I returned it in the first place was when I discovered the front pocket was missing in the design. For me that is crucial because I use it for my cell phone and wallet and parking pass since I do live close enough to the DLR parks to be able to use it as a day bag. But without that pocket it lost its appeal at $90! So it is great you are telling more people to watch out for these sales as they are super helpful to save money and the only reason I now own a few Parks bags. I previously only owned the Box Lunch or Hot Topic ones - I do go to Box Lunch enough to warrant spending money to make the Box Lunch money coupons work for me though. Oh and btw I forgot to reach back out to you for our pin trade so I will message you soon!

I really think it depends on what's important to you. If practicality is important then maybe the soft large Loungfly rucksacks might be better (they're also cheaper typically), but if you like the aesthetic and fashion of it then these are perfect. Most people typically travel to the parks with another person, so you can always have a large water bottle between you in their bag.
I've gone to Disneyland Paris and only taken my Plush Oswald bag, which only fits my purse in and had a great time. I've also taken my Epcot 35th Loungfly to WDW and had no issues. But I think it depends on what you take, what you need, and what you prefer.
But I agree these park ones are waaaay too pricey... I paid $80 (?) for my Epcot one. But you can get normal non-park disney bags for about ÂŁ50 if you're lucky.

These work for us whom go to the parks about two- four times a week and don’t need a all day care to much all Bag! Also a few tips the loungefly bags are perfect to fit on rides and can tuck away quick! Also you don’t really want a bag with to many zippers and compartments people tend to forget when you go threw security you have to go threw each and every compartment so the more simple the backpacks the better!!! And a loungefly is worth it maybe not full price but definitely worth it. And not always you can get bags at a cheap price I’ve seen bags gone and never to be seen again i would say if you really really want it but it don’t wait! Please be careful the info you are giving these viewers because it’s not always the same Disneyland changes daily and for people who are visiting in the summer lots of merchandise will be gone and new merchandise will be in its place! I’ve always used the side pockets to hold small water bottles/energy drinks.
It also held my hydro when I went to to parks. So they’re not that useless but I understand what you mean

Danielle Santillanes I feel like they’re small, and if I put anything in the pockets, it /severely/ affects what I can get in the large zippered part and doesn’t look nice, so I just don’t use them. I’d rather just put my water bottle inside the bag.

lovelylinds I guess it’s personal preference then. I somehow can manage to keep my phone, portable chargers, socks, sandals (for wet rides)/shoes (if I wear sandals for the day), extra pair of leggings, chapstick, bathroom spray, and usually a couple of small snacks like rice crispy treats. So personally for me I can fit a lot in the big pocket and still put my energy drinks/small waters.
Even the small front pocket I keep lots in there too like plastic bags for phones, Tylenol, extra deodorant, roll on perfume, and a lipstick or two.

I have two lounge fly backpack‘s, and I also have a third one that is a Donald Duck felt backpack, it’s not leather and it is like collapsible and it’s easy to take on planes and it is a little bit larger then the leather lounge fly backpack’s, so if you would like a lounge fly backpack that is a little bit bigger that you can put water bottles or anything else in. Then I would definitely recommend getting that one. There are many pockets, and is one of the better ones.

I really like the bags. I have 2. One was a birthday present (the design is sleeping beauty’s castle). It’s absolutely beautiful & my friend totally surprised me!! The second bag is Santa Mickey. I purchased it about a week & a half ago when shop Disney had a 40% sale & free shipping!! With the sale price bring so good I couldn’t resist!! I agree with you-when shop Disney has a good sale it’s worth it to purchase!! Btw-I live in Southern California & I am an annual passholder. I’ll still choose shop Disney for a good discount over buying @ park-at least for some items anyway!! I’m totally enjoying Santa Mickey at my discounted rate!! Happy holidays!

I’m from the Uk and I got the pale blue Stitch loungefly bag with matching wallet for our trip to WDW in August past. I fount it perfect for a full day in the parks. I was able to fit a packet of wipes, tissues (I have a 6 year old) plus my fuel rod and charging lead in the front zip pocket. The main pocket help a foldable portable fan, my pac a Mac rain coat my wallet, phone and a notebook and pen. It would have fitted in a bottle of water but I froze the water overnight so I but it into an insulated thing and clipped it the the loop at the top of the bag with a carabiner clip. All in all for 14 days park hopping it was perfect.

Love my loungefly backpacks . If you go on their web site they also have incredible sales. I use to buy Dooney and Bourke bags( which I still love) . You can purchase Lounge Fly via at Hot Topic, Box Lunch, their web site, Disney parks, and each place has different styles and different prices, different discounts. I prefer the backpacks with the double zippers ,because when I travel I clip the zippers together ; or in line at the park, to give my self peace of mind . These bags last a long time , they clean well, they hold a lot of items. When going through security if you put items in clear cosmetic bags it’s a breeze. They also make Great Wall decorations for us weird Disneyland fans.😀😃

I actually thought about buying the Mickey Jack O’Lantern Loungefly during my and my brother’s first ever trip to Disney World which was during the Halloween season of 2019, but then I decided against it because I’m not paying 80 bucks for a mini backpack that I’ll only use from October 1st to Halloween every year. Maybe if I ever find it at a thrift store or flea market for 5 bucks, I might consider getting it. The Loungefly’s I did get are worth it because none of those are based off of a specific holiday, so I can use them year round.

The pockets are bigger and more roomy. Looks like loungefly maybe responding to people wanting more stuff to put in their backpacks. I bought mine on sale. I saved about 20-30% for the grand opening of the store in the mall near my house.

Sales are very rare where I live - Australia - & you're lucky if you get $10 off. Shopping international isn't worth the cost. We may get the product cheaper but almost $70 shipping before $ conversion more than blows away any savings. However, I do use my mini backpack & 3 handbags all the time. I don't usually spend a lot on clothes, shoes, bags etc... so my family don't mind the cost as birthday/Christmas presents from our local stocker. It's usually around $100 for the handbags & backpacks, $50-60 for purses.

I agree that they are too expensive for what they are. 40-50 would be more like it. I feel the same about Dooney & Bourke and Vera Bradley. I would absolutely have to LOVE the pattern to spend anywhere near that much, and while I could afford it I just can’t justify it 😱.
Back to the Loungefly bags, I have the same issues as you about no inside pockets. It would be nice to have a small zipped pocket on the back wall and a couple of slip pockets (pen and phone size) on the front wall. Most backpacks of this size/style have those as standard.
I think the side pockets aren’t too bad. As small as the bag is I think a water bottle on the outside would make if too clunky. I don’t have one of these (price) but I have similar in other brands. Those slim side pockets are perfect for a pack of tissues, wet wipes, hand sanitizer wipes, lip balm... small things like that that you might want quick access to rather than dig through your bag, and pickpockets won’t be interested in (and if they get stolen it won’t matter).
I do keep eyeing them up every time I go, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. If I saw a design I liked at a decent sale price (like at character warehouse) I’d get one, but so far no luck.
That Santa one is absolutely adorable. I hope you enjoyed it through the holidays 🎄😁
