Hate it when work interrupts reading, especially knowing work helps make reading possible by buying more books
hahaha right? im in that very situation right now
To anyone in the comments, read at your own pace. It’s fun to do reading challenges but don’t feel bad if you’re a slow reader. I consider myself to be a reader and I’ve been on the same book for three months.
And then there’s me who struggles with one book for over a week
That's a good amount of time for the average reader tho. 😊 all that matters is that you enjoy them. ❤
I agree with the other comment, please don't treat it like a race. There are years I read 175 books and years I read 4 (literally FOUR) . We all have our seasons. Happy reading!
I struggled with a particular book for 2 months 😅 But I read others in between.
Me lately. I think I'm finally up to 4 books this year so far.
@@michelleizocothank you Michelle. I needed this. Being a book blogger for over 6 years burned me out. It's like my love of reading went poof. 😭
I think 7 novellas in 7 days could be fun because I don't see novellas featured in videos very often! It would also be more managable with work and life stuff 😊
Please do more of these! I wish I had the time to read 7 books in 7 days. I’d go through my tbr in no time 😅
For the next challenge: Jim Butcher's Dresden files, - very funny and action packed. You can literally read a book in the series each day of the challenge.
Agreed!!! One of my favorite series’s. My husband and I have listened to the entire series twice
‘I miss vine’ is so real lmao
That was so impressive regardless. I think switching up genres is a good idea... But throwing in a few thrillers or mysteries might make it seem quicker...I find they tend to be quick reads. Such a cool concept.
Dang I wish 11/22/63 was in this video but totally understand why it wasn’t being 800+ pages 😅I just started reading it and so far really enjoying it!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts in a future video
Hey Ian ❤❤❤ I recently found ur channel, it popped up on my recommended page. And it was the video of you swapping books w ur sister and your personality is what hooked me to ur channel. I love the vibes, it's so entertaining and funny. After discovering ur channel I quickly discovered ashlynns channel and she is such a peach! U guys are so darn cute together its so sweet. 🩷 I think it's so amazing u n ur wife share the same passion for reading and seeing u guys together nerding out over books 📚 makes my heart happy. I hope one day I'll find someone that looks at me the way u two look at each other, and swap books w and things like that. I'm looking forward to seeing ur next video ❤ I'm glad ur here.
I love the fact that u didnt even try some shorter books u just went straight to the big stuff lol.
Since you mentioned Green Mile, just shouting out that the audiobook is fantastic
I totally connected to the whole "well if I'm gonna read, might as well make the Bible today" attitude lol
I like this challenge because I grieve so hard after a good book and always jump right into a new one , like rebounding after a breakup😭
Massive respect for doing this challenge, I would’ve been half way through and dropped it if I was that busy but props to you man 🙏
I love these videos!!! When you were talking about Cormack not using quotations, I believe Sally Rooney writes the same way. I have wanted to read her books but I've been afraid I can't follow well. When you said that you were able to understand the audio book better I have decided to utilize the audiobooks for her books. That's a great idea. I just struggle at following the story sometimes already when I have quotations. I appreciate that you branch out from tik tok books. There are so many good books out there and its nice to hear about them too..... Congrats to your sister!!!
Would love to see a part 2, maybe 7 mystery books
You did so well! Having in mind that you have another job besides CZcams you did AMAZING! These challenges are usually made by people who's work is - CZcamsr. So finally seeing someone with busy life is refreshing!
You got so close! I hope you do it again and mayyyyyybe take page count into considering you madman 🤣🤣🤣. Either way, you have a lot to be proud of, that was some good reading and I put a couple of these books on my TBR.
Thank you for the shout out!!! This was a hard challenge you did well.😊
So excited for this!
You are so likeable! I adore your delivery and personality.
Your sense of humor and editing style are giving big Olan Rogers vibes- I love it! Keep the content coming!
Great video! Love Mr mercedes, I would highly recommend reading the rest of that trilogy as well as the outsider, if it blade and Holly. You said you loved Holly so that will certainly let you spend more time with the character!
Ian you're the best. This was a delight to watch ❤
I think I have found my new favourite channel. This has definitely inspired me too partake in this challenge when I next have time off from my busy work-uni schedule!
I discovered Ian's channel 3 weeks ago & it quickly became a favourite. Planning to do the same challenge
These are always fun videos to watch! I like challenging myself too. I usually do 'finish a series' or 'finish a trilogy' self challenges. Last month I did the Codex Alera books in a week, but it took me an extra 2 or 3 days. Next one I am setting up is reading all of Ryan Cahill's stuff in probably 2 weeks, just waiting to finish my current reads to dive into them.
Fun video! Like the concept!
I wanted to say first but oh well... 4th!! Thank you for the video. These always make my day and you and your wife are adorable. ❤
I did a every day reading challenge in January and read seven books. I think seven days would push it for me but I have a ton of smaller books too.
Your recent twilight read made me reread them too. I feel the same.
I had the same thoughts on no country for old men. Glad you read it instead of blood meridian.
Fun challenge.
The Parker books are amazing, they only get better and better!
That was a great video. Really enjoyed it. I might try something similiar while hubby and child are at the in-laws in summer. I will also be working full-time but I also wanna use the alone-time for catching up on a lot of books. Looking forward to your next 7Books video. Maybe do it on an off- week 😄
Came for the beard but stayed for the wholesome
Yess a new video. I'm so happy my day has become even better ☺
You are one of the few booktubers with the exact same taste in books as me and im all for it😊
This was so funny 😆 loved it!
Yohhhhh tbe scenery was beautiful! I'd love to either live there or visit for a holiday someday, looks like the perfect place to just read and relax!
Also, for another idea you could put your tbr on strips of paper and draw your books for 7 days.
Holly!!! Yes I love Holly so much as well. Now you can read all the books with her haha which is quite a few. All of them are amazing
The first and only book I read form Stephan king was Mr. Mercedes. (So far) I have never been more anxious reading a book then that one. I don’t have the same reading vibes as you but I love how you challenge your wife. Getting her to read “scarier” books. That are longer and different then popular books. Books I would never pick up. But if she enjoys them I think I would too
I can read 1 book in a week.. you did pretty good with this challenge..I really enjoy watching your videos. Always looking forward to a new video. I also enjoy seeing the dog 🐕🙂
Ive had Mr Mercedes as well as the rest of Bill Hodges on my shelf for years, I should give them a go... probably as soon as I finish Dark Tower.
This was fun! Personally, I really enjoyed the versatility of the books and I need to say this again: I appreciate the scenery shots during your drive^^ Also, congraduations to Chelsey!!!
You did a fantastic job with your challenge! I really need to try to do this challenge with books I've had for a long time ...
I saw 11/22/63 on the thumbnail and I was like WOW thats ambitious!
Seven books in seven days a new genre each day. Loved this video!
You made me want to read Maurice Druon, thanks for the inspiration!
Yayyyy new video !! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 nice 👌
7 thrillers would be a lot of fun, please do that one. loved the video btw
I hope you go back to The Final Gambit. I really enjoyed that one. Plus I wanna hear all your thoughts on it. And yes you should definitely do this again! Make it a mood read challenge so you’re not forced to pick up a book you don’t feel like reading.
I'm so glad I found your channel ❤
Maaan you really got me with Dune and The Final Empire in the thumbnail! 😂 Those probably wouldn’t have been the best for a seven day challenge though. I liked the variety you chose! A.J. Fikry is the only one I’ve read but the others sound interesting.
Not a recommendation for this challenge, but it would be fun to see you and Ashlynn do a classics video together! Maybe some Jane Austen? 👀 I’d love to see both of your takes, especially after Ashlynn’s classics video.
I was suckered in by 11/22/63 LOL - he tricked me
Oh man! I always want to attempt the challenge! But trying to find the time is ROUGH! 😅 Great Job!
I love Robert McCammon! Swan Song is a masterpiece. I loved Gone South too. Have you read Mine? I know you'll like it if you liked Gone South.I have so many favorite books it's hard to recommend one or two. If you can find the book The Minotaur Takes A Cigarette Break by Steven Sherrill and Into The Forest by Jean Hegland or Accordion Crimes by E. Annie Proulx...The Plot Against America by Philip Roth, A Simple Plan by Scott Smith, The Terror by Dan Simmons, just to name a few🤣Happy Reading!
I would love nothing more than to just read all day every day, unfortunately ADHD means I hyper-focus and forget to do other things...like pee or eat.
You should read the rest of the mr. Mercedes trilogy. It's sooo good! 💜 and holly in the outsider and if it bleeds(havent read yet but what too.) She has her own book too called holly.
I got so happy when I saw you hold up Mr. Mercedes! I love that trilogy and I hope u continue on to read the next 2😁....I also have that same dragon ball shirt🙂
Also I would love to see u read 7 thrillers or 7 novellas in 7 days...or maybe 7 different genres in 7 days🤔
I am such a slow reader. I wish I could read faster. I really enjoy your content. You give me great ideas for my Tbr. 😊
I’m currently on book 7 of Wheel of Time I’m just slowly making my way through the audiobooks of them when I get the chance to squeeze one in lol! It’s pretty good so far! As for recommendations please finish the Red Rising Saga, book 6 and 7 are phenomenal! I would also love to see you try a Dickens or maybe some other older classic! And we’ll Stormlight or any Sanderson as well! You should also try a Russian novel(I’ve read Anna Karenina and it was phenomenal!) sometime! I have way to many recommendations!
Still gotta get you on some RA Salvatore! I recommend starting with Homeland, SUCH a good read.
I just ordered The Iron King on Amazon. It sounds good. Thanks
The movie of No Country for Old Men also made me feel that way, so I'm glad to know I don't need to read the book lol
I JUST finishen me. Mercedes and OMG! I 1000% agere with the 4 star rating. Amazing video!
You did Great!
Along with the rest of the video, you earned my sub and my respect at 15:50 ❤
I would love to see you read The Green Mile, that book had me BAWLING!!
Awesome vid! I definitely want to get into Robert McCammon at some point. Here are some recs:
1. Here and Gone by Haylen Beck- deals with gaslighting, small town corrupt cops and the black market.
2. Blame by Jeff Abbott -psychological thriller, girl doesn't remember how or why she crashed a car that killed her best friend; the only thing I didn't care about was the love triangle, but it's still good and I didn't see the ending coming.
3. The Book of M by Peng Shephard -peoples shadows start disappearing and with that so do their memories.
4. Escape from Furnace: Lockdown by Alexander Gordon Smith - Beneath Heaven is Hell, Beneath Hell is Furnace. Teenager is framed for murder and is sent to Furnace. This is a teen series.
That would be awesome if you to try again. I think thrillers would be interesting do do. Please congratulate Chelsea for me. Love and hugs to you and Ashlynn.
Next time do a Christopher Buehlman marathon! All 3 books that I read so far are different but they all are fun reads! The Lesser Dead, Between Two Fires & The Blacktongue Thief!! Also Outlaw by Angus Donald is super fast popcorn read! The author wanted to use the same structure as Warlord Chronicles but insert Robin Hood!
Your dog is so fricking unbelievably cute
I read mr Mercedes last spring it was nice i also watched the tv adaptation that was really great im currently reading the green mile im liking it so far
Awesome vlog 💯🤠‼️WOW 7 books in 7 days ‼️ I can do this with audiobooks and romance books because I can just speed up the audiobook doing this will let me get the summary of the whole book but I am not getting any significant literary analysis from them. The Iron King sounds amazing and I would need to take my time with both a physical copy and the audiobook on my normal setting of 1.5x speed so that I can get a proper comprehension of it. What are some Stephen King books that are not slow building ? I heard Mr. Mercedes is a good one to read.
You’ve convinced me I’m going to pick up Gone South
This video was great and I know the daily vlog I’m currently doing that for Malazan 😅 all through may.
If you’ve not tried him I’d suggest some KJ Parker I think he’ll suit your sense of humour 😊
If you didn't know, Mr. Mercedes has lots of other books connected to it! I believe there is the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, and then "The Outsider", then "If It Bleeds" (short story following Holly), and then "Holly". I've only read If It Bleeds because I didn't know it was connected to the other books so I accidentally spoiled myself 😅
I just listen to the audio book while following along in the physical book if it’s like that! Helps lol
Mr. Mercedes is on my tbr. I ended up buying book 3 of that series at a book sale
💗💗💗
you should read small things like these VERY short but good!!
I loved Swan Song oml-
A few, on the shorter side, recommendations for next time-
Twelve Nights at Rotter House by J.W Ocker
The Connellys of County Down by Tracey Lange
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
Joyland by Stephan King (you’ve probably read this one😂)
Comfort Me With Apples by Catherynne M Valente
No Exit by Taylor Adams
i love beard and eyes you omg love it
I love The storied life of A.J Fikery. It's one of my five stars read.
I’m gonna try to do this vid soon.
Excited to see it!
7 thrillers for sure i think it's the easiest to read in one day, or 7 books that your wife has you read from her tbr
Ive binged all the lord of the rings books in one sitting before with only breaks being under 15-20 minutes to make food and restroom breaks.
Great video! If you do a challenge like this again, and you want to read Stephen King for it, you should try a Bachman book they’re shorter
Edit: commented this before finishing the video, and Richard Stark is also a pseudonym of Donald e westlake, and King named Richard Bachman after him
hey if i was going to do this challenge, i would maybe get ashlynn to recommend a few of her books. I know that you typically read long books but reading 400 page adult fantasy book is very different from reading a 300 page young adult book.
I would love to see more Stephen King reading vlogs, not 7 in 7 days bc with mr. King it’s impossible lol but a reading vlog of his bigger novels would be nice!
I have vlogs for all three of his novels that span over 1,000 pages. I definitely plan on doing more in the future!
Wild by Cheryl Strayed was A good book and now it a major motion picture. I think you would like this book.
11/22/63 is one of my favorite books in the world.
Mistborn in the thumbnail got me inordinately excited-sad it didn’t make a cameo in the video though. *Hint hint*
Nevertheless, great video! This challenge is no joke. Thanks for letting us join you in your reading journey.
Mistborn is coming in a vlog very soon😉
I challenged myself to read two 300ish pages books in one week for a video and that was enough for me. If I have to do longer books it takes me almost a month because I have kids. I think for reading for seven consecutive days would be mood reading. Fun reading challenge.
Final empire in the thumbnail was clickbait 😂 either way, another great video Ian!
Gahhhh The Green Mile is literally my favourite book, but I'm glad you enjoyed Mr Mercedes! I'm currently a good few chapters in to 'Holly' by Stephen King so if you like her character then there is more of her out there 😊
Dare I say it... 7 Stephen King books in 7 days? 👀
🙏🙏🙏
Nice Cannibal Corpse reference and video.
I managed to do this with the Chronicles of Narnia series but I think I read way too slowly to do it with a larger book. 😅
Blood Meridian is the first thing I picked up by him and halfway through I just stopped because it bothered me that he didn’t use quotations. I could deal with everything else but I couldn’t distinguish people speaking from the rest of the book and it bothered me because I give characters voices when I read.
Have you read “Written in Red” By Anne Bishop?
Bill Hodges trilogy❤
