  • Good news! I have just learned, courtesy of Cameron Hewes of clarinetallmusic.com, that, while the Rapier family lost their website due to a technical issue, they are continuing the business offline. He promises to carry the CD in the future, so there you go. I’ve ordered from CAMco Music a couple of times with excellent results, and am always happy to discover music suppliers who take it personally. I still wouldn’t sleep on it, Boston Records is still a small family business and you never know when the CD will be gone for good.

    Old info:
If you have never heard of Marcel Tabuteau’s Lessons, this is your lucky day because the CD appears to be out of print. There are a few copies left here and there (usual suspects), and while it costs more than it did when bostonrecords.com was in business, I don't have enough viewers to make the price go up further. Stop RIGHT NOW, do a search, and get a copy while you still can.
    You're welcome.

As an oboist for 10years, I was surprised to learn that Marcel Tabuteau had a CD made. I’ll have to buy it now. I also really enjoyed this video. I think it’s great reminder that sometimes we need to go back to the greats and hear from them to learn. I feel like nowadays that is often neglected in modern teachings, so thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing yourself and your insight. Can't wait to try this out on the cello. I ordered the CD and subscribed to your channel for future contributions.

How wonderful! Oddly enough, I just took a break from practicing a Bach cello suite - I hope to make a video of me taking a lesson on it from one of my cello colleagues.

Boston Records was originally owned by one of the oboists of the Boston Symphony, Wayne Rapier (a former student of Tabuteau). Mr. Rapier passed away a number of years ago, approximately 2007ish. Someone else carried on the Boston Records business for a little while but eventually closed down the store.

Thanks for this. Wayne Rapier’s Wikipedia page does say that he founded Boston Records. However, according to discogs.com, Boston Records was founded in 1951 by James Stagliano, principal horn in Boston for 27 years. Also a fine pianist, according to the 1987 obituary. Rapier joined Boston in 1970, retired in 1995, died in 2005. Certainly he was the driving force behind Marcel Tabuteau’s Lessons, and if he acquired the label from Stagliano that’s another piece of the puzzle - it seems significant that the last entry in the Boston Records discography is Alex Klein playing Schubert in 1999. It’s really a nice catalog, many of the pressings by CBS.
I’d like to discover who owns the catalog, buy Tabuteau’s Lessons and put in on Soundcloud.

It looks like CAMco has it now for a reasonable price still in stock.

I bought the cd, it’s supposed to arrive this Saturday. I’m excited to see what I can learn from it. I remember briefly in undergrad a colleague mentioning two up, two down phrases when analyzing Rose no. 18 from the 32, however I did not understand what this meant.

Now, ads are a way of financing the service, and I truly don't know if it's overpayed, but I chose to spend the money for the monthly subscription which saves me from all those ads. I also don't know if CZcams is ripping me off with the subscription price but I can learn ad free from people like you.
    Just my two cents.
