    When we have finished this video, we realized that WE MADE A MISTAKE. And this mistake is that our containers were transparent, but they MUST BE DARK (to protect roots from the light). And You should change a solution more often (more oxygen for the roots), or you can use aerator stone connected to an aquarium compressor. So keep it in mind when you will try to cultivate a plant on hydroponics. Good luck!

      Nice experiment. So did you try to do it over again, but this time with a darkened container and changing the solution?

    Before watch this video, i already do the same to accelerate root growing for medium size (to up) gymnocalycium cactus. And it all work for me. Nice sharing

    Great idea! but this might give cactus root rot in long run. Try adding a bubbler it would do great.

    Actually "cacti hydroponics" is an OXYMORON. You would not expect to have a better growing ratio than another placed in a pot, simply because both need the same requirements due to its CAM metabolism. The best approach is to apply surgery and graft the desired species to another with a faster-growing feature if the objective is to accelerate the growth. Therefore the "hydroponics" is useless here and only beneficial for plants with C3 and C4 metabolisms prone to dehydration nonetheless, the empirical attempt is appreciated.

      @Omnicurious Před 6 lety +3

      Cacti hydroponics is not an oxymoron because that's not what the word oxymoron means. An oxymoron is a self contradictory term not something you thing doesn't work. I fail to see why CAM plants could not benefit from hydroponics, the fact that the stomata remain closed during the day does not negate the positive effects of oxygenation and nutrient availability in the root zone. Additionally there are benefits to hydroponics beyond just faster growth such as not having to deal with lots of soil or constantly check if plants are over or under watered.

    • @Epilefo
      @Epilefo Před 6 lety +2

      Exactly, CONTRADICTORY TERMS. Have you ever wonder why the cacti plants are known as "SUCCULENT"? it has to do with their water storage capacity. So when you apply "cacti hydroponics"; you are swelling a plant made to hold water in their tissues, consequently the plant will take whatever quantity of liquid is needed and then will remain quiescent until the plant requires more water and nutrients, which is the same as any potted cactus. Conclusion: if you want to try "cacti hydroponics" is at your own risk to kill your plant by putrefaction caused by bacteria or fungi proliferation due the excessive humidity. Good luck with that!

      it could be made by grafting an hydroponics plant for the roots, and a cactus, I guess. Could you make a video?

    • @jayydudley5897

      Simple. Graft and then hydroponic. Increase growing speed even further

      Whilst several mistakes were made in this video, using a hose to remove soil from the roots is not one of them and it is also not the same as overwatering!
