Culver’s is great! It actually seems to be like someone is in back, scaling and gutting a freshly caught fish and then frying it up for a Friday fish fry! The tarter sauce seems to be homemade and the roll is really just there to make it easier to hold because the fish is the star of the show. Number one when I lived in Wisconsin.
Culver’s does not have homemade tarter sauce as I always have it on the side and it’s prepackaged. I do agree Culver’s is probably the very best fast food fish sandwich around if you are near one
I don’t get the fish sandwich at Culver’s but quite often get the three piece cod meal that is available year-round where I live and sometimes they also have Walleye seasonally
I appreciate you taking time to eat sandwiches shortly after ordering, because other reviewers will order 6 or more sandwiches, then take them home, set up their camera, talk, show their sandwiches to the camera, etc. By the time they begin tasting, those sandwiches they've already been sitting for a couple hours and then they complain how the lettuce is wilted or the cheese isn't melty, the bread is soggy or doesn't taste fresh, well duh...it's been sitting for hours. So, thank you. I rarely eat fast food, but when I do it's nice to get an honest perspective to help my decision making.

Filet O Fish is the king of fish sandwiches due to the steamed bun, large dollop of tartar and the use of half a slice of cheese. During Lent they sell a ton of them.
With regards to McDonald's. Their "secret menu" allows one to ask for a double filet at a modest cost increase and extra tartar sauce at no cost. The customers for the fish sandwich are relatively small compared to beef or chicken, but they are devoted and steady, frequently being the only sandwich they order and the only reason they (taking their kids) go to McDonald's.

I order the fish cooked to order and wrapped in paper. It steams the bun, and the fillet is square on the bun, as opposed to being thrown in a box w/tartar sauce everywhere. Same with the Big Mac... ask to have it wrapped.

I haven't tried Wendy's fish sandwich yet, Culvers fish and chips is very good, made with Cod Fish and their tartar sauce is clean tasting and traditional, better than MacDonald's.
Every lent I make the rounds and checkout every fast food fish sandwich I can find. So far this year I’ve tried the Wendy’s, the Popeyes classic and of course McDonald’s. The Popeyes I had was huge. Thick and crispy. The fish itself was very mild as I would expect from flounder. The Wendy’s was fried well and had a good amount of fish to crust ratio, but I found very strong in flavor as I would expect from its higher fat/oil content. The filet of fish was the same as always. If your hungry you can get the double and skip the fries. It’s my go to. As of this moment I found the Popeyes to be the best. But mine was very different then the ones I’ve seen reviewed.

I go there all the time and have 1500 points in my app. So everyone don't forget to put app on phone and scan QR just before you pay. They'll help you. But my favorite fish sandwiches are Culver's if you're near them. Year round they have the North Atlantic Cod sandwich for $5.99. Delicious But just now as they are fished off Wisconsin and Canada The Walleye. Sand 6.49. or Dinner $12.29. The Walleye is a fish you would get in an expensive restaurant. From Iowa I grew up with it. In the dinner you get two huge pieces and a roll and side. Better for less bread. It is sweet and juicy and mild. Yumm. Well thank you for you're determination. If you love the McDonalds filet of fish (like I do) order it with two fish patties. Twice the fish goodness and protein. That's how I always eat it now.
I did a similar test last year, and I also love McDonald's simplicity OGness. At that time, I found Popeye's more fishy, loved Wendy's, and Culvers was also impressively fresh.

A couple years ago I lived very close to Wendy’s. I happened to try their fish sandwich and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. The drive thru gal told me it was only available during Lent, so I went every couple days to get it, it was that good!!
Thanks for reviewing most of the fish sandwiches available! I don't understand putting cheese on a fish sandwich, but to each their own. I've enjoyed the Arby's Crispy Fish a few times lately as you can't beat 2 for $6! I'd probably have them more often, but the nearest Arby's is 8+ miles away while Culver's, McD's and Burger King are all withing a couple miles. At Culver's, I get the two piece fish meal as 3 is one too many for me. Curious about the Popeye's fish sandwich. A local restaurant has a Friday Fish and Chips special with Fries, Curly Fries or Tots and coleslaw for $10. It's pretty yummy! I should just get a box of beer-battered Cod filets at Costco, a bag of Brioche buns and make my own at home...

When I order the Wendy's fish sandwich I ask to leave off the tarter sauce and cheese. I ask for extra tomatoes and heavy onions. This fish sandwich with a frosty is just awesome. I do put ketchup as my condiment on the bun.

I live on the USVI island of St. Croix and we have Wendy’s but for some reason they don’t get the same fish as you, they get away with franchise rules. Lol but I can’t wait to come to the states one day and try a Wendy’s fish because I too love McDonald’s fish and for you to say that Wendy’s is better it must be. The Wendy’s on the USVI island of St. Croix is not the same it’s actually mediocre and the McDonald’s here barely ever has McDonald’s fish they probably buy it from the local supermarket. Unless it's really new, Wendy's in my area doesn't even have a fish sandwich and never has had one. Arby's fish was fantastic when it first came out, then it went downhill. As has Burger King (remember the Whaler?) and McD's Fillet of Fish. In all of Western New York, we have no Hardy's, no Carl's Jrs, and no Jack in the Box. We recently got a Checkers and a Popeyes, which I haven't tried yet. And a Sonic, which is too far away from me. Oh, how I long for Arthur Treacher's! and Long John Silver's! Long, long gone.
Culvers has an amazing fish sandwich (cod). Big filet with great crunch & a lot of flavor. You really don’t “need” the shredded lettuce & shredded cheese, but they don’t hurt the flavor profile at all. Also available as a 2 or 3 piece fish filet dinner with sides (no bun).
I almost never eat fast food, but Wendy's is one of the better places. As I watched you eat their fish sandwich, I knew it would be the best. Good job on the show! You might also try White Castle. It's always been a popular stop in the NYC and Philly areas. I see they have locations in Las Vegas and they have a fish sandwich too. Check it out.

Here in Ohio the Popeyes ones are around 7. The Burger King ones are part of their 2 for 6 or maybe 2 for 5 right now.

I should just get a box of beer-battered Cod filets at Costco, a bag of Brioche buns and make my own at home...
I could never understand that cheese thing either. It just doesn't seem natural.

I live in the United States Northwest New Jersey so we don't have a Jack in The box or a Hardee's we have McDonald's Burger King Arby's and Wendy's and I have to say McDonald's fish sandwich is the best
I appreciate she showed 11 sandwiches. I think Arby's fish sandwich tastes better than mcdonald's. I will try some of the others.

I believe the fish sandwich at McDonalds is made fresh to order unlike the soybean beef patties that sit under the heat lamp.

Thanks for describing these fish sandwiches I'm only ate one from McDonald's the Filet-O-Fish sandwich I'll start looking for it on the menu and trying some others. I just had one question what did you drink to wash these down, because that can have some effect on how the sandwiches tasted. But thanks for the information on what comes on the sandwiches.

When I order the Wendy's fish sandwich I ask to leave off the tarter sauce and cheese. I ask for extra tomatoes and heavy onions. This fish sandwich with a frosty is just awesome. I do put ketchup as my condiment on the bun.

McDonald's is my favorite fast food fish sandwich. It is consistently tasty and more reasonably priced than the others.

I'm a McDonald's fish sandwich guy. A local dinner has a haddock sandwich. That is better than McDonald's. But you oay for it. Do you suddenly have the urge to swim? 😄

In FS part 2, Catherine should take a trip and try fish sandwiches from: Carl’s Jr. / Hardee’s, What-a-burger, Sonic, Chuch’s Chicken, Captain D’s, Long John Silver’s, White Castle, Krystal, Checkers, Steak n Shake and Chick-Fil-A, etc. then rank them all. 🤣

I live on the USVI island of St. Croix and we have Wendy’s but for some reason they don’t get the same fish as you, they get away with franchise rules. Lol but I can’t wait to come to the states one day and try a Wendy’s fish because I too love McDonald’s fish and for you to say that Wendy’s is better it must be. The Wendy’s on the USVI island of St. Croix is not the same it’s actually mediocre and the McDonald’s here barely ever has McDonald’s fish they probably buy it from the local supermarket. Lol But thank you for letting me know the states has good fish at Wendy’s. You’re great I love watching you and Derrick so much fun!

This is great becauseI really enjoy fish sandwiches.
Unless it's really new, Wendy's in my area doesn't even have a fish sandwich and never has had one. Arby's fish was fantastic when it first came out, then it went downhill. As has Burger King (remember the Whaler?) and McD's Fillet of Fish. In all of Western New York, we have no Hardy's, no Carl's Jrs, and no Jack in the Box. We recently got a Checkers and a Popeyes, which I haven't tried yet. And a Sonic, which is too far away from me. Oh, how I long for Arthur Treacher's! and Long John Silver's! Long, long gone.
Culvers has an amazing fish sandwich (cod). Big filet with great crunch & a lot of flavor. You really don’t “need” the shredded lettuce & shredded cheese, but they don’t hurt the flavor profile at all. Also available as a 2 or 3 piece fish filet dinner with sides (no bun).

I almost never eat fast food, but Wendy's is one of the better places. As I watched you eat their fish sandwich, I knew it would be the best. Good job on the show! You might also try White Castle. It's always been a popular stop in the NYC and Philly areas. I see they have locations in Las Vegas and they have a fish sandwich too. Check it out.
Nice job Catherine! I will try Wendy’s. Try Culver’s. It’s yummy! You usually have a choice between cod or Walleye. Both are very good
You gotta keep in mind that Culver's is limited to the Midwest. Wish I had tried more of their menu when living there.
