SAMASZ BUTTERFLY MOWERS | 700 ACRES LATER, WHAT DO I THINK?!

  • In today's video after over 700 acres mowing with the Samasz butterfly mowers it's time to try out the groupers properly. We're mowing our 2nd cut silage for putting on top of our wholecrop, so we don't need to let it wilt and can cut and group it. Saving Bro an extra job raking it and giving us an extra driver to draw! At the end we do a run through and review of the mowers and how we've got on with them.
Massive thanks to Egmont Agri for lending us the mowers, if you want to get more info get in touch with them below!

Reason for the seed heads is because of drought - the grass becomes stressed due to lack of water and heads out as a means of survival

Your going to have to keep them now phill its a no brainer😉 and definitely you should use them with the grouper for the holecrop be much faster and interesting to see if there be any loss of grain

I'd think you need to cut early with the mower ore else you'd lose a lot of grain.

Low levels of N means your crop stresses quickly so in an attempt to stay alive, the plant sends up a stem with a seedhead to reproduce if the main plant dies. This i see is going to be a huge disadvantage of using lower notrogen levels going forward as quality will suffer drastically. Organic lads will say that in time clover will fix N so thats how they keep quality in a sward. If you have a chance in a field apply extra N on a few runs and see which part will grow better quality, and then try put figures on the N savings, the lower yields and subsequently the lower performance of livestock from lower quality feed!
Great videos as always, but one needs more hp to drive them butterflies!!

    Hey buddy
Loved the drone action and music firstly
Thought your review was honest and thoughtful
I used to run a TM190 with super steer.
If you haven’t used/tried super steer with a front mower it’s hard to explain but it seeing is believing.
On the back I had two 2.5mtrs mowers under one frame on the right side.Total width was 8 mtrs.
I was a Krone guy and while Krone are more expensive they are worth every cent.
Groupers are a waste of time, money and weight!
Keep ‘em coming mate and if possible can you tell the Irish rugby team to move on with the NZ test series win😂😂😂😂

The Samasz has impressed me, from what I have seen before these mowers actually looks like they are made very well, I have seen some older Samasz mowers without the conditioners and very "fragile" looking :) Would love a butterfly outfit myself, but not sure yet what to go for, new Samasz or maybe an older Kverneland or Claas :)

Maybe you should drop the front mower off and swap with the Kuhn to see how the back pair work with a narrower mower. If it’s good then go away and buy the rear set only without groupers. That’d cheapen the job.

Sorry to hear about the vintage silage day being cancelled over insurance.
Not sure if its applicable to yourselves but if the people that wanted to go and watch the day were to be remained in a vehicle like a bus or something would the bus insurance not be used instead of public liability insurance?
