Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on CZcams!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

I want to take a minute to appreciate the amount of time, work, and effort that Gly and Laura are putting into making such phenomenal content for this summer exploration season. Thanks Gly and Laura!! It’s been really fun so far.
When Laura smiles, it lights up the whole scene!
Yes, Laura has a nice smile!
I agree.
looking back through the older episodes I can't believe I have been watching your channel for nearly 4 years, how time flies when your having fun
Gly, I am SO happy watching you and Laura having these great adventures together. You totally deserved to find a partner to explore with you. Laura is also a lucky gal to have found you.
Thank you, Gly and Laura, for another fine exploring video. And speaking of vein structures that are covered or never daylight: My nephew was working on a core drilling crew maybe 20 years ago; they were drilling holes just over a ridge from Folsom Prison in CA. After work one day, the foreman pulled my nephew aside and said I got something to show you. He took him over to where they had the cores and showed him one, said it was from ~1700’ depth. My nephew couldn’t believe it when he saw a 5/8” thick section of the 3” diameter core was solid gold! Probably a fortune down there, but so deep it would take a fortune just to get to it, with no idea of extent, vein direction, strike, etc, but to my nephew it was extremely impressive!
Hello Gly and Laura, I am happy to see you added Laura's name to the intro for the Wednesday videos.
Laura, she lights up everything. Gly lets her lead once in a while. The journey with these two is worth while, makes for fun. Vistas, great view. And the story is. That is the story, the undiscovered resources.
Yay Laura is official! Good job guys, a lot of hiking for little reward but man, they were digging all over in there. You two are working well together. Keep it up!
Great video Laura and Gly. If you ever get up towards winnemucca and battle mountain, in between them Santa Fe gold, later to become Newmont gold corp, they were going for just what you were talking about. They claimed that the ore body stretches some 30 miles long. Clear from the twin creeks mine to the lone tree mine and last I knew they were planning on going all the way. Last I heard they had a 100+ year mine life. The ore was sitting approximately 500 feet below the surface and that was an old lake bed. Also, the last I heard Virginia city was still classified as the mother load for the state of Nevada and there is still an amazing amount of gold down in the lower bodies of the old workings but it was just too dangerous to try and go down there to work. There were a few attempts to try and strip mine that area but they were never permitted to do so because it would destroy Virginia city and all of its history. You guys make a terrific team with these videos. Keep up the great work
You Guys are so lucky , The rest of the world living in congestion and turmoil; and you all living a life of adventure and freedom within mother Nature
Be safe
Thank you for all you do
Another wonderful Wednesday! Thanks Laura and Gly!
I'll agree with Gly, lots of beautiful vistas. Sure miss my old home state. Thanks for another episode Gly and Laura.
The rattle-kitties that haunt Gly's nightmares.
Fantastic Episode Fly and Miss Laura. You guys are killing it!!!!!! Long time fan.
The dynamic duo! Love the shows more than ever!
Laura, thanks for pointing out the shims! cool!
I remember long ago you did a campfire session. Might be fun for you two to do one as a Wednesday show. A way to better introduce Laura. Maybe a new intro for Wednesday featuring both of you might be in order also
Honoured to send you both a well deserved tip. Keep up the great productions!
Thanks for another Mid week episode Gly & Laura. And as to your final comments about Gold & Silver & mineral deposits in general, I have often read that there’s MORE still undiscovered and mined than ALL that’s been found so far in all corners of the Globe. All it takes is a bit of luck and patience. Happy Hump Day to everyone 😎👍
Hey there! What is up with the miss matched boots? That didn't get by me. Thanks for a nicer Wednesday!!😎
“Gly”: This original intro was created 5 years ago and only one year after colon cancer and chemotherapy. Back then I had no feeling in my feet and lower legs due to neuropathy so the mismatched boots is a symbol to my recovery during that time.
You both so hard for our entertainment and enjoyment of what you come across on your travels so enjoy your escapades keep going love it thankyou❤
Remember man who goes to bed with itchy butt wakes up with stinky fingers
There's gold just floating around in the oceans too. Scrooge McDuck was using a large bell to recover it back when I was a kid. 🤑
Awesome explore today. Thanks to you lovely folks I got to go along again. You guys stay safe and keep an eye out for those rattlers.
Gotta love the vista’s, on a clear day you see forever!
Joking aside, I startled a Mountain Lion in a 1880's hard rock adit in the Ravenswood District, Northwest of Austin. I didn't think much of it, but there were a few flies at the entrance, so kidding aside, we backed out, sat on a tailing pile at the entrance, and next thing we knew it lept over our head and shot up a canyon. I never was much concerned previously of them, but seeing the size up close, it was pucker factor 10! Stay safe.
Nice to see you again. Love you both take care. GOD bless you both
I love the twice weekly videos!
Thanks again you two. Stay safe.
I am always up for geology lessons during your videos. Thank you for the quick outro lecture about what still remains below us. 👍
Thx Laura n gly !
I spent five years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula Copper Country. As much copper as was extracted in that area over a hundred years or so, there is so much more. It is very deep and much of it is under Lake Superior between the Keweenaw Peninsula and Isle Royale.
Thanks Gly and Laura for the weekly adventures. Not sure I would have ventured into that area Laura. As soon as I saw the shims/wedges holding up huge rocks I would have backed out quickly. 🙂
Looks like you got yourself into a pretty tight spot this time. I can suggest getting a sky crane for ya lol and yes I also enjoyed those views when I lived in the California mountains by Lake Tahoe. I miss waking up camped on a ridge and seeing for miles and not seeing any houses anywhere near. I can suggest several locations in California in Eldorado national forest if you’re interested. Some had some geological history shown during the ice age or volcanic eruptions that occurred meleniea ago. I found one white granite bolder that looked normal until you got to the back side and then it was hollowed out with a tonsil shaped peace of rock hanging down looking like it was still melting from the nearby lava in a crack in the granite slab it was sitting on. It was around the miess rd and north south roads above a small camp ground dad had fell hazard trees for the forest service for. And another area along the camp creek road ridge line a solid white granite slab with deep gouges cut into it from ice glaciers long ago and it left red lava rocks from red mountain all the way up by highway 88 by silver lake well over a hundred miles or more away however on a clear day standing in that same slab on the ridge you can see red mountain way off in the distance. You will need a 4 wheel drive to get there it’s off alder creek road the first spur on the road it takes off on a horseshoe bend on the main road and goes up the hill. The first clearing is where we camped and the fire pit I dug is still there you can even see it on satellite maps of the area on google maps and alder creek rd is off iron mountain rd now called Mormon immigrant trail. I do miss the mountain country and the tall stands of timber but I don’t miss what California became. Politicians have ruined a very very special place to live that I called home for 43 years and my family called home for 5 generations 4 of which where timber fallers 1 owning his own logging company.southeast Missouri does not have such things but it has its own views though not as vast or as far and no decent timber it’s all hardwood trees oaks maples elms and other varieties. And only a few stunted red cedars and pines
Jeff's drift mine is in an alluvial plane that also had an old underground river and his best yields were in a red clay/sand/gravel blend.
Hello Gly and Laura . Was a neat adventure for a Wednesday! I was hoping you didn’t find or have an encounter with a Nope Rope! Be safe out there see you Saturday! 🙂👍🏻
Loving all these episodes, it’s mine heaven!!
Awesome video. I wish I could go and look around those places and mountains but I can't. So I just watch you an Laura. I used to drive a truck an seen in from distance. An wondered what was out there. So I'll just keep watching your videos.
Bottles and cans just clap your hands!
gotta admire the decorations under the jeep, lol
I still think Gly needs to stuff a couple of hand warmer packets in that tennis ball. Snakes track heat.. ;-)
Australia Watching , 6am in the morning and having a cupa . Nice episode Gly and Laura very interesting mine and area .
Listen, there's a snake in my boot!
As always loving your videos and appreciate the hard work you put into them.
Also liked the duct tape message on the bottom of Ol Bobs fuel tank!
Thank you.
Your comments are fine as they are, just keep going as you are doing, take care both of you.
As the old timers used to say... there is much more gold in that there ground then was ever taken out. Good show.
Sweet little mines. Glad there wasn't a Rattlesnake down there! Maybe there wasn't any sign of copper ore in some of the adits because the vein was only two feet wide and they mined it all out?
The great earth, mysterious, and wonderful and then there's Gly going into and out of a hermit hole. That is so true about the gold and silver that once was on top of a mountain and then it is buried underneath in the mass alluvials of the great basin and range of Nevada.
13:38 just looks like that block is hanging only by the wood
When it comes to rattlesnakes? I noticed you let Laura lead the way.
Thanks for the good Wednesday explore video. Backing into a hole would not be a good way to find a rattle snake.
So TRUE!
I need to change my Alexa reminder it still reminds me of "Gly's Shorts" every Wednesday..
Gly I glad Laura didn't Clop her foot down and Wennie When you said Harness cause I would busted out she keeped it purely Professional level just me just got out work tired haven't had diner!
Good night you and the man and the woman be safe
Hey! switching out carrying the camera works out pretty nice, espescially when there is a low ceiling adet. (saves on Gly and his back). Its great to see you two as "partners". Loved the "vista view".
Sorry for looking at your junk...Was just checking out Bob's drive shaft 🙃Good to see ya back, and cheers to a safe season!
Good video guys. I was wondering what ever happened to Mr. M that would go with you occasionally? You may have addressed it but I missed it? I was hoping he is still doing good.
Happy Wednesday! Love the views
We used carbide lamps in the 70's to explore the Gold Queen mine off of Bacchus Road in Mojave County. Now it is an open pit.
OooOoo there's a snake 🐍 in my boot😬🫨
Great video, team! Thanks for the geological explanation throughout. You have an excellent point. Who says gold, silver, et al can only be found on dry land, and only in certain areas? There are still billions of dollars worth of solid mass copper in the Keweenaw area of Michigan's U.P. that is just waiting to be dug up.
28:48 It's a boy!!! 🤣🤣🤣
As soon as you said alluvial I heard TREMORS
Watching this as I'm waiting out a tornado that's passing😅
To The Adits band: Hey I Like Your Music ! Thank You !🌞🎻🎸 Sandy
Haha, at 29:00 I just watched a mountain give birth to a Gly Coolness.
cute suspension accessory dose ducky act as a bump stop lol
Rob Huntington Beach love you guys
Good to see Rubber Ducky and your hula Dancer !!
At 21:22 when you picked up that rock and commented on crystals, were those Garnet?
Nice sermon on the end..
You would love eastern Washington for the vista's we can see half the state.
Love the geology lesson! ❤🇦🇺
Thus makes me so freaking hapoy 🥰
34:50 gold silver story.
The dead end mine Gly and Laura 😊
Well Gly you’re correct, a lot of people have the misconception that 90% of the gold has been recovered. It’s the opposite and just like you said, technology is inching its way forward to where we can achieve in collecting and processing the gold if and only when it’s economical & environmentally feasible. Heck there’s talks about mining the moon for precious metals. Who knows, maybe in a hundred years it’ll happen.
wygold
Are you sure you didn't happen onto an unfinished Pyramid Laura???
Do you ever get any turquoise out of those mines?
kOMENTÁŘ K PODPOŘE KANÁLU NEMŮŽE UŠKODIT .. Hodně štěstí v dalším životě. 😄😉 N.W.
I wouldn't find my way out. I've seen a video of around six explorers get into panic mode lol it's not funny for long.
If you could, put the technical names on the screen. Examples: Christa cola? Or adit? Thanks
Gly, you are one ultra-prepared guy. this is probably an "of course" answer, but do you carry any snake bite kit?
“Gly”: Yes I do, it’s in my backpack. 🎒👍
Just take the add cash we all can watch a add
Slickenside
I said that too and got deleted....
I used to enjoy watching your shows but now you got more and more of just walking straight through it you never stop and show the timbers or nothing
“Gly”: You may have missed watching the video where we explain how we’re going to film sites and post videos in the coming months. If Wednesday videos aren’t your cup of tea then watch Saturday videos with a higher production value and a more detailed look at the mine. czcams.com/video/QROj-ryTmZw/video.htmlsi=fCEebOoFg6rLCuoY
were is the snake???
What's that red stuff I seen on the ground
“Gly”: You might be seeing iron from the limonite deposits.
I have a feeling Laura is good looking, but it is hard to tell with all the gear.
Its called "mountain casual".
Must say (and this is just One Man's Humble opinion) I prefer the Newer Opening. It's More Epic and Action based, More "Modern". Yes, the Scratching the bum part is Funny, but like the New One Better.
“Gly”: I save the new intro for Saturdays so everyone gets a weekly taste of old and new per their request.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces That's a Great Idea!
🎉
“Gly”: The first to comment! 🏆
😅
90% of all the gold on earth is still right where God put it.
Smells like CZcams clicks.
Good to see you are ok. I've been watching the wars, Keep living the Dream,
