How To Get WordPress Posts To Page - Displaying Posts On A Page | WP Learning Lab
This is one of those things that all beginners want to be able to do and it seems like it should be easy. Luckily, it actually is easy to do if you know how to do it :)
There are two ways to make this happen. One is to set the blog page and the other is to add categories to the navigation menus which displays all the posts in the category.
Let's do the first one first, setting the blog page to display posts on a specific page. First, you have to make sure that you create a page called Blog by going to Page then Add New.
Type Blog into the title field and click on Publish.
Now go to Settings then Reading Settings in the WordPress Admin area. At the top you will see a "Front page displays" section where you choose the "static page" option. Then for the Post Page drop down choose the Blog page you just created.
You will also have to choose a Front Page to make this work.
Then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
Now your posts will appear on the "Blog" page you created a few earlier.
Another easy option is to display posts on a category page. On all of the posts you create you have the option of setting a Category for the post.
You can then go to Appearance, then Menus and add that specific category to any navigation menu you have on your site.
When someone clicks on the category link in the nav they will be taken to that category page where it displays all the posts in that category.

Just wanted to say, "SO MUCH THANKS!" Been trying to figure that out for months, and kind of lost heart. I just wanted my blogs visible on the page. Seems like a simple thing. You showed me something that is probably easy to people like you, but wheesh! what a relief.
I'm happy I could help! Thanks for watching :)
Thank you for showing us how to do this. Being able to put different category types as menu items makes it easier to present specific content from different pages. Much appreciated!
Very helpful, I've been looking all over for this information. Thank you!!!
+David Jones Cool, glad I could help David. Thanks for watching!
@@wplearninglabMy Appearance tab doesn't have the "Menu" option?
Short, quick and to the point. Immediately solved my problem. You sir are the hero of the day!
Are changing the reading settings only available to you if you have a purchased plan? I currently have the free plan and I am not seeing a lot of the things on your left sidebar where your settings are, on mine.
I've spent so much time trying to figure out how to get certain posts onto certain pages that I am thrilled I found your video because in only a couple minutes, you helped me to solve this issue. And it's such an easy solution. Thank you soooo much :*
That's great Jacquie, I'm happy I could help. Thanks for watching!
Informative and easy to follow.
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Question: I have my posts displaying however when a member logs in to my website I only want them to see the posts they have uploaded, not anyone else's. Could you help with some code or a plugin I could use? I've searched online and I can't find anything, the code I found I tried but didn't work. Many thanks Thomas
Hi Thomas,
You can create a custom page template (tutorial here: czcams.com/video/I29BI1CrNcI/video.html) and add a special wp_query that pulls in just the posts from the person who is logged in and viewing that page. The same page would be used by all the authors, the code would pull in their user ID and display only their posts.
The authors would have be signed in for this to work.
I don't have any code on had to do this, but it should be fairly easy to build based on this help thread: wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/134347/how-to-query-posts-from-specific-authors-and-categories-using-wp-query
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
MY god this is getting so frustrating. My menu looks completely different to his and has no such options. All this just for a bit of organization, what a useless amount of fuss.
Yes
Thanks so much for this! I've been fighting with a plugin for hours and you gave me the info I needed in 2 minutes. Really appreciate you!
Hi, great video. One question, is it possible to change the way the articles are shown in the categories? I would like to show the full article, including images.
I've been trying to figure this out for a week and you helped me in 4 minutes lol thank you so much!! I'm officially subscribed!
That's how we do it on this channel 😀 Thanks for the sub Tina, I appreciate it!
@@wplearninglab how do you put post in categories. I'm try but I was just post all in the same category. How do I separate them?
Thanks for the tutorials, really helpful.
But I have a concern like putting "news" and "warm countries" but they will only appear on the menu page when you click the blog. They shouldn't be visible when I am on the homepage example....
Hey Bjorn! Great tutorial (helping people out in 2021)!. I've got a similar setup as this on my website. A mix of pages and categories. I'm just wondering how you got the posts in your categories to display in a grid format? I seem to be having great trouble with that on my end.
i guess you have the answer to this question by now. However, i presume its the theme that gives the grid layout. You can share if there is contradicting answer. thanks
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have been trying to figure out how to post items in different categories and I watched this video just before punching a hole in the wall. So freaking helpful!
Girl, I was right behind you until this video. So helpful for my brain, website and wall health.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Our third child arrived 12 days ago and it's been a bit of a gong show around here 👶
Can you make the blog page display only uncategorized posts?
I want: music page, video page, history page, and blog for general updates. Would I simply use those categories instead of creating a page and assigning (I have a plugin that isn't quite doing the job) a category to that page?
WordPress can be very frustrating for a programmer.
Hi Dana,
I don't like to have Uncategorized posts on my site, so for your case I would make a blog category and use that as the blog page. But you can add the Uncategorized category to the menu just like the others. Then you can change the "Navigation Label" to "Blog" and that's what will appear in the menu.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Thanks. Got a question though. I'm trying to have 2 small sections on front page that lists excerpts of posts from 2 different categories. It seems more challenging than I initially thought. Any suggestions, plug in ???
Thank you so much. I have been trying to figure out how to make my categories as drop down pages for awhile. Super easy to follow your instructions.

I want to ask why on my Wordpress website when I use my own theme that is made with Artisteer there is not post showing, when I change theme than all posts showing correctly, what can be the issue?

Hi There! I found this video very helpful, however I'm struggling with how to edit these "Category Pages" to make them look nice! I use Elementor and there doesn't seem to be the option to edit a category (to put in a header photo, have some content written about that certain category...etc) Help!
Great video.! short and to the point.! I've been looking all over for this information. Thank you so much!!!

could you help me I wanna show post that whenever someone clicks on this post it appears on a separate page all posts must do the same things? I don't want to change these things all time thank you
Hi, I have seen several vidéos on this subject, but I do not have the reading option in my settings. do you think it is because I have the free plan? I was about to upgrade but just checking it is worth it!
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING HOW TO DO THE CATEGORIES THING!!! I've been trying so hard to figure this out!!! You are amazing!
You're welcome Ashley, I'm happy I could help :) You're amazing too!
How do I allow and make it so more sections like chapters or subheadings under both the button menus and other sections and pages show up? I have buttons on the top with drop down items, and listed items on pages, but it only shows a certain number of subheadings under them. So most are not showing. Its only showing up to 6 on both button drop downs and item sections on pages. So, its not showing all of the ones I want to show and cuts off the others. It does this in more than 1 area. I'm not sure how to fix this.
Is this only for certain packages? I have the free version currently and there is no "Reading" in the settings tab.
THANK YOU sooooooo MUCH!! I've been struggling with the problem for a long time! You made my day ))

Hi! How do I get just my welcome post to show on my home page? I tried many different things including the categories but my homepage still shows all my posts versus just my one welcome post
I'm using the twenty seventeen theme and it seems to be blocking my ability to customise my home page because there is no option to customise homepage in the settings>readings menu.
Have tried going to Appearance > Customizer?
That should provide some homepage customization options.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
is there a way i can omit the "category" portion in the permalink? i mean the post will be under that category but when someone opens that particular page the permalink doesn't show that category in the permalink.
Hi, Thank you for the video.
I've done the static setting where home goes to home, and blog goes to blog.
But, when I designing my blog page and click review page, wordpress still open my homepage (already designed)
Wonder why and coud you help me?
Thanks again
When I did this, on the page for that category, it said, "Category Music" instead of just "Music" like it says in the menu bar in that category. Is there a way for me to change this? I noticed that you did not have this issue in the tutorial, so maybe it's just my theme (Blocksy)
My category pages aren't showing on wp. Example I have a drop down and it's showing just the recent 5 blog post I typed- not just the post for beauty. Please help
Yessss thanks! Most helpful info out there :)
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Thanks for the help, one question is it possible to have your post come on your blog page and also your home page with a few most recent
Hi Sam, yes. You can have your posts appear in as many places as you want. You'll have to use a widget to get your posts onto your homepage. Sometimes those widgets are built into the theme. If not, you can use a plugin to get a widget.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Fianlly! I video that actually resolves my problem and works for my page and theme settings! You are amazing!!
Awesome, I'm glad I could help :) Thanks for watching!
AMEN TO THAT!!!
Thank you sooo much! I appreciate how well you explain and straight to the point.
You’re welcome Chief and thanks for watching!
Thank you! Spent all weekend trying to figure this out on my own.
You’re welcome Steven, I'm happy I could help. Thanks for watching!
Very helpful! My question is how do I customize the category page. In your example, the “Warm Countries” category page has the purple background and text. I want to give my readers some info about that category besides just the blog posts. Thank you!!
Is there a way to have most recent posts display on the main page the newest posts, and then have an archives page where all the posts are?
I was trying to figure this out yesterday for 2 hours then I gave up. Today I found your video and you solve my problem in literally 3 minutes!!! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thanks I have been wondering how to do this - very helpful. It's folks like you that make it very helpful to all of us that are still learning about the "posting" system.

Hi, I tried to follow your video but my wordpress page dosen't show categories to add to menu only posts. is there another way i have been trying to figure this out for days now
This worked like magic. Thanks.

I have a question... I have a category and sub categories. I set up my post to be shown on the subcategories page, but it is only appearing under the main category. Do you know how to fix this?
Hello, Thank you for this informative video. I had a question, how do you displays the posts in the format pictured? Rather than using the default format of WP. Is that a plug-in? If you have a video regarding this particular posting style, can you please direct me to it? Thank you again:)
Thank you for the video! Why can't I find reading settings in my WP? There was only writing settings, do I have to upgrade my plan to be able to get the reading settings? Please help, thank you!
Hi Elisa.
All my videos right now use a self-hosted version of WordPress from WordPress.org. It's open source and free, but you do have to buy a domain name and a hosting account to make it work. So it's not free, but you're not charged by WordPress itself to build your site or add features.
It sounds like you may be using WordPress.com. If the options I'm showing aren't in your site then you probably have to pay WordPress.com for access to them. All the options come included in WordPress.org.
How can you get them under the blog page? I have a blog page and when I clicked on post it created the new blog but it's not posted on the blog page. I went into Post and created it there and it's in la la land. Not showing on the blog page. Thank you.
Very helpful! Is there a way to not show a post under the "blog" section, but in another category? I don't want to clutter my main "blog" posts with certain other posts that I create.
I want my menu to have pages where I give a summary and then posts that automatically go to that page when I assign it a category. My categories and pages have exact same name. How do I do that? Also, how do I categorize sections of the home page for posts that I assign categories?
This was SO helpful, thank you!
You're welcome Caroline, thanks for watching!
i dont have reading under my settings page.. help me! i need to figure this out asap.
This was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much! It worked!
Hi, I am wanting to put particular posts onto the right pages so that when people click on the page in my menu bar all the posts for that page come up however I cannot seem to do this and I don't understand from your video how to do it as you added 'news' and 'warm countries' to the Manu bar to get them to show up and all the posts just seemed to appear there straight away. my pages are all just empty and when I create a post I don't understand how to get it to show up under the right page. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!
Thank you so much!! I've been trying to figure this out since days!
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching!
You, Sir, just saved my butt. After 2 days of trying to figure this thing out. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this info. Was searching and trying to find how to do this. :)

:)
A 4 year old video helped me in 4 minutes to fix what I spent half a day on. Thank you sir!
You're welcome, I'm happy I could help. Although some things change a lot with WordPress, others haven't changed in a decade. Even the older videos still have value if they are about the things that haven't changed 😀
my all posts are appearing on same page like a news paper i nwant to show them seaprately on my home page when some one click on the any post on homepage it will open broadly what to do
Thanks - exactly what I was looking for!
That's awesome Sue, I'm glad I could help :)
So, question: I want the front home page to be the blog set up just like you have your warm countries. That's fine. That's simple. However, I want to categorize the blogs and use the catagories as navs just like you did. However, I would like to have a SIDEBAR show up on those "pages" (which I know aren't pages they are categories) ... Is that possible? Blog posts that are defined as categories; The categories are navigation (menu items). But when you go to that menu item, the page that shows up has three columns with one being a sidebar vs just three columns across of blog posts. Is that possible thru using a theme?
I haven't tried this plugin before, but it looks to be what you need: en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/
Alternatively, if you're using a page builder that lets you create archive templates, you can create a template for your category pages and have a sidebar in the template.
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
THANK YOU! Finally.
+Selkirk Glad I could help, thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video! Is there any option to remove the category from the permalink of the post?
I can't thank you enough man. God bless you and give you tons of money
Thanks Neeraj, I'm glad I could help :)
I created a custom theme then converted it into wordpress theme ,but when I creat a blog page ,my post isn't showing ,it's showing the home page ,plz suggest me what to do
awesome help simple and to the point you also answered a second question i was searching for awesome thumbs up

How do you show your images for the category posts? My category page shows only text.
Wow! Thanks for this info. I went through 4 hours of trying to figure out how to add the blog and have it appear on the menu . Search on the google, almost lost my temper but nothing ever helped me. It was only through your tutorial. Thanks a lot a great help indeed. God bless
Is there a way to get it to only display in one category? ie just “news” instead of both blog and news?
Thank you so much! I have been trying like crazy to get my posts to show up. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
Is it possible to display posts with a specific category on a certain page, without using categories in the menu?
I'm just now learning to use WP coming over from Joomla. In Joomla they make it easy to add images for your categories and even have an index of categories with images displayed for each. I'm trying to do the same on WP. Is it an easy way to do this without changing code? They used to have plugins for this but they are all expired or cost.
great post! short, sweet and easy. Thanks Bjorn :)!
You’re welcome Saniel, thanks for watching!
Extremely helpful. I sorted my menu in minutes !
How do you get your posts listing like that? Is there a plugin? Mine looks terrible with different image sizes and looks all over the place. Thanks.
+Tracey Best Hi Tracey, the layout I have in the video is determined by the theme. The layout on your site is determined by the theme as well. You may be able to select a special blog layout on the page that you set to be the blog page.
In the page editor under the publish box there may be a template metabox with a drop down. That drop down may have a blog.template you can choose.
If that isn't there, you'll need to use custom CSS to get the blog page look how you want. Or choose a different theme.
Thank you. Will see how I go :)
+Tracey Best You're welcome, let me know how it goes!
Hi there, when I did this Blog in the menu was blank and didn't show any of my posts. How do I fix this? Thanks
Under Settings > Reading make sure you have the Blog page chosen as the one that displays the posts. That should bring them back.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Hiya! I would like to create different pages, where I can edit the actual page, that each have a different categorized post on. Do you know how I would do this? This video shows how to get them to go to a category not a page. Thanks :)
Thanks a lot! I was trying to get this to happen for ages.
Question: mine simply says blog title on the category page with blogs below, so how do I change the title name or add a title picture.
Next question: I only have 2 posts under the same category yet those posts propagate under the other category's when I click on the other category's from the menu
Incredibly helpful. Thank you.
You're welcome Tony, thanks for watching!
Тhanks for the reply, I will try. Should I use global $post in sidebar outside loop?
This is so helping. Thanks
Thank you so much. I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and then you showed me very fast!
