OPTIBIOCAT - Innovating the way cosmetics are made

Market demand is increasing for cosmetics that are produced with natural enzyme-based conversions rather than chemical processes. With the OPTIBIOCAT project, European researchers launched a major initiative that is sifting through the genomes of fungi and bacteria, and evolved enzymatic variants for appropriate biocatalysts. Our goal: to replace chemical processes currently used for the production of cosmetics with cost-effective, energy-efficient and eco-friendly bioconversions.
