You are correct. Im 1st gen american from Italian parents. We used to take the train in some sundays back in the 80s as a kid. It had a bunch of butcher shops, some restaurants and clothing stores with old italian people everywhere. La cosa nostra hanging in corner cafes. Now its 90% expensive restaurants targeted to the rich spoiled yupies that live there. But nontheless I still enjoy going there, just not as much lol
Yuppies and hipsters have cheapened the experience of everything all while spending the most amount of money possible to do it. LOL. Today's culture is so shallow, self centered and one dimensional.
My sister lived at 5 North Square back in the 1980's. Safest neighborhood in Boston at the time for single women. Still pretty, but not the same 'hood.
I got married in the north end in 1984 at the old north church, my crazy ex-wifes idea not thinking i agreed to it thinking the church was in the north end it must be catholic , WOW was i wrong , about the church and my ex-wife.
Not true. I was there a week ago, and I used to live there. We ate in a family owned restaurant and the owners daughter was the waitress and she grew up there with all her friends and still lives there. She is 19. Sure there are millennials buying condos but there is still rent control and families who have stayed and make a living there.
The place of my birth! My home that I will cherish forever! The change in this neighborhood breaks my heart.
